Drift Fishing in Miami

A lively metropolis, a favorite among various types of tourists, and one of the most culturally diverse cities in the US – yes, we're talking about Miami. For nature lovers visiting the area, there's no better activity in the city than fishing its bountiful waters. And the drift fishing Miami has to offer is one of the most fun and economical ways to explore the bite.

What to Expect

If you book a trip with a Miami party fishing boat, you're in for a treat. You'll get to meet a lot of new, interesting people aboard these large vessels while drifting over numerous reefs. These drift boats can take you to the waters ranging from 40 to over 350 feet deep just half a mile from shore. Fall is the best season for reef fishing, and you can expect to land some epic Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack, and others. Early spring is all about drift fishing for Kingfish, Bonito, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel, and even Swordfish and Sailfish. Night drift fishing trips for Swordfish are especially popular.

How to Prepare

Licensed Miami fishing charters come inclusive with fishing licenses, top-notch fishing gear, and fish filleting (make sure to tip the crew for their efforts). It's advised that you bring your snacks and drinks, sunglasses, sunscreen, and layered clothing if you're going on a longer trip. And don't forget a camera to capture all those fun moments!

Drift fishing in Miami is suitable for anglers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a first-time angler or a veteran of the seas, Miami fishing guides will work hard for you to go home with filled coolers and a smile on your face!

I was given advice from friends that fishing above the keys would not be that ideal. However, we had a great time and expect to catch more fish in the area soon.

Yes, but know your personal limitations. Choppy water is rough if you suffer from motion sickness. Prepare properly and enjoy.

Focus on the guide, not the boat. You don't need a 30ft boat to run around in the Miami bays and get to the good fishing!

Great time for Tarpon due to the shrimp hatch. Beat the heat. Beautiful weather. Fish at night when there isn't any boat traffic.

Either find a decent charter, have some friends who know the area, rent a boat to get to the spots where others are, or go to a jetty or pier. Can't go wrong with jetty or pier fishing and putting some shrimp/crab/ squid on a setup with a hook and a weight like a Carolina rig. Plenty of exotics in the canals as well that will bite even in December. Just watch for gators and snakes!

Takes no time at all to get to DEEP sea fishing...10 miles and you're at 1,000+ feet. Possibilities are endless but you better be with the right crew and boat or you're gonna have a disappointing day.

It's going to cost more than they tell you when you book the trip. If you don't have your own rods It was only an extra $13 But if we didn't have the extra on us it would have been a problem. We paid a $33 deposit and we expected the rest would cost us 77 but that's not what happened when we got there
