(3 Hour Trip – Back Bay Shark Trip)

    James rocks!

Had an awesome trip with our captain James, my son, and my dad. James was knowledgeable, patient, and knew exactly where to find the fish. The highlight was watching my son hook into a shark, with our captain coaching him through the fight. It was an unforgettable day for three generations, and we’ll definitely fish with him again.

Ray fishing targets flat, disc-shaped fish that roam sandy and muddy bottoms. Anglers prize them for powerful runs, stubborn fights, and the chance to land a true surprise catch. Common encounters include Stingrays and Eagle Rays, which can test your strength and tackle. If you enjoy steady pressure and a unique species, Ray fishing delivers.

Most Rays bite natural bait on the bottom. Skippers often use bottom fishing or slow drifting with cut fish, squid, or shrimp. In shallow, clear water, some anglers try gigging or bowfishing at night, where legal. Gigging uses a pole with prongs to spear fish in the shallows. A tough leader, steady drag, and circle hooks help secure the hookup and reduce deep hooking.

Expect a slow, patient approach over flats, bays, and estuaries, with bursts of hard pull when a Ray takes off. This is a great option for beginners, families, and anyone who likes a tug-of-war. Bring sun protection, non-slip shoes, and a camera. Use long-nose pliers and gloves for safer handling, and keep clear of the tail spine on Stingrays. Many anglers choose quick catch-and-release after a short photo and a careful revival.

Rules for Rays vary by location and species. Always check your local fishing license and permit needs before your trip. Confirm open seasons, harvest rules, and any protected species status. Some Rays are fully protected, and others may have strict limits. Your captain can explain current regulations and best practices for a legal, responsible Ray fishing experience.
