Bowfishing fiskeri

Bowfishing is fishing with a bow and arrow. You spot fish in shallow water, draw, and take a quick shot. It is fast, hands-on, and exciting. Anglers try it for the action, the challenge, and the chance to combine archery with fishing.

Common targets are non-game fish in fresh or salt water. Freshwater anglers often go after Carp, Gar, Catfish, and Paddlefish. In coastal shallows, guides may target Rays, Sheepshead, Flounder, Drum, and Mullet where allowed.

You use a bow fitted with a reel and heavy line. Arrows are sturdy and have barbed points. Most trips run in clear, shallow water by day or at night with bright lights. Water bends light, so you aim a little lower than the fish appears.

Expect lots of spotting and fast shots. A good guide will explain gear, safety, and aiming before you start. Beginners and families can do well, and experienced anglers love the pace. Bring polarized sunglasses for daytime trips, non-slip shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and any snacks or drinks. Most guides provide all bowfishing gear.

Rules vary by location. Bowfishing usually focuses on legal non-game species, and catch and release is uncommon with arrows. Always check local license and permit rules, and confirm which species are legal to take. Review seasons, harvest rules, and any area restrictions before your trip.
