    great trip

If you are in Key West I would highly recommend this charter. We did a 8 hr combo trip ,trolling and bottom fishing. The captain was a great guy and put us on the fish we were looking to catch. We will definitely be booking with him again.

Mutton Snapper fishing draws anglers who want a smart, hard-fighting reef predator. These colorful Snapper prowl coral reefs, rocky structure, and wrecks, where they ambush bait fish and crustaceans. They are prized for their strong runs, wary nature, and excellent table quality, making them a favorite target for many crews.

Most trips use bottom fishing, which means dropping baits near the seafloor around structure. Live baits like pilchards, ballyhoo, or shrimp work very well, as do cut bait and squid. Drifting or slow-trolling keeps the bait moving naturally. Chumming can bring fish closer. Use light leaders and small, sharp hooks for a subtle presentation, since Mutton Snapper can be line-shy. Jigging with flutter or bucktail jigs also produces strikes.

Expect steady action around reefs and wreck edges, with short bursts when a school moves in. The fight is strong and dogged, so keep steady pressure and be ready for runs toward structure. This is a great option for beginners, families, and seasoned anglers alike. Captains usually provide rods, reels, and tackle. Bring sun protection, a hat, polarized sunglasses, snacks, and plenty of water. If you get seasick, consider medication before leaving the dock.

Rules for Mutton Snapper fishing vary by location. Always check local fishing license and permit needs, plus any season, size, bag, and gear rules before your trip. Learn how to identify the species, follow crew instructions on release or harvest, and respect closed areas and protected zones to keep fisheries healthy.
