    (Full Day Trip)

Incredible day on the Play N Hooky!

What a trip! Captain Teoni has the gift - he found us Mahi, yellowfin tuna, marlin, and even a Hawaiian Shortbill spearfish! And Mate Nick was incredible helping us get them all in the boat and keeping us entertained the whole way with his great personality! Literally cannot recommend this crew more if you want to get out there for some great sportfishing!

    (3/4 Day Trip)

    Good experience

The fishing was tough. The captain and guide worked very hard. Caught one swordfish and missed one bite. Even though the fishing was tough it was a good time.

Shortbill Spearfish fishing targets one of the rarest Billfish in bluewater. This sleek predator hits hard, runs fast, and often jumps. Many anglers chase it for the challenge, the surprise surface strikes, and a shot at a Billfish slam. It is smaller than most Marlin, which makes light tackle battles exciting and manageable.

Anglers usually find this sport fish by trolling offshore along temperature breaks and current edges. Crews run small skirted lures or rigged ballyhoo at moderate to fast speeds. Teasers and outriggers help raise fish and keep spreads clean. Light tackle trolling keeps the fight lively while still landing fish quickly and safely.

Expect a classic bluewater fishing day with plenty of searching and steady trolling. Bites can be sudden, so stay alert near the spread. This trip suits anglers who enjoy action, teamwork, and chasing a rare checkmark on their Billfish list. Pack sun protection, a hat, polarized sunglasses, non-marking shoes, and a camera. Most crews provide quality tackle, bait, and safety gear, but confirm what is included before departure.

Rules for Billfish vary by location and can change during the year. Always check local fishing license and permit requirements before you go. Review season dates, harvest limits, and release rules for your destination. When in doubt, ask your captain about best practices and current regulations.
