    Biggest fish of my life

Had a great experience fishing with Riccardo. We went out for 4 hours, I caught the biggest fish of my life and he even gave me a quick tour around the villas since our fishing was so good I didn’t feel the need to push for the last 10 minutes of fishing we had scheduled. It was really cool to use the live sonar and see the fish so clearly. Would highly recommend his charter and will be going out with him again if I’m in the area and want to fish Lake Como!

Wels Catfish are heavyweight members of the Catfish family and a favorite freshwater target. Anglers chase them for their raw power, huge size, and thrilling night bites. If you want a serious tug-of-war, Wels Catfish fishing delivers.

You can target Wels during river fishing or in large lakes and reservoirs. Bottom fishing with live or dead bait works well. Many anglers use fish chunks, eel, or squid on strong rigs. Spinning with large soft plastics, swimbaits, and crankbaits also produces strikes. Night fishing is often best because Wels feed more in low light. Some crews use the clonk, a wooden tool that makes sound on the surface to draw fish up.

Expect heavy gear and stubborn fights with deep runs and surges. This suits anglers who want big freshwater game fish and steady, focused sessions. Beginners can enjoy it with a patient captain or guide. Bring a sturdy rod, abrasion-resistant line, tough leaders, a headlamp, warm layers, and waterproof footwear. Many anglers practice quick photos and careful release to keep these fish healthy.

Rules for Wels Catfish fishing vary by location. Always check local fishing license and permit needs before your trip. Review season dates, protected areas, and harvest rules where you plan to fish. Some regions treat Wels as invasive, while others set size or gear limits. When in doubt, ask a local authority or your guide.
