Jason was an exceptional captain and fishing guide! We enoyed his company and professional, easy-going attitude. He was very knowledgeable and he helped my son catch a huge Tarpon (his taget fish)!! it waa epic!! My son also reeled in a nice lemon shark and a few Nerf Sharks on this trip! We did the evening half-day trip and enjoyed the beautiful sunset and the nice new boat was comfortable and luxurious! Another thing worth noting was seeing another boat passing by at a fast speed and our captain waved his arms to get their attention and saved them feom running their boat into a huge sandbar area. That was very respecful and shows he cares to help others out, too! We will definitely come fishing in Islamorada with Jason again! :) I highly recommend Katz Charters for helping make our fishing trip a successful one! Great memories and good conversation between the tight lines!

What can I say about Captain Jason and the wonderful fishing experience he provides that hasn’t already been said here, in his 500+ five-star reviews? As a first-time fisherwoman taking her teenage son on a fishing trip in the Keys, I was in over my head (not literally, thankfully). I wanted to book a charter fishing experience that my son (who fishes regularly) would enjoy, but also one where I would feel completely comfortable putting our lives in a stranger’s hands. Before booking, I had questions for Jason. He responded promptly and put me at ease. And he definitely remembered me when we met at the dock. He took us about 5 miles out - a 20-minute ride past the lighthouse - and he knew all the tips & tricks to get the fish biting. We reeled in lots of fish - all yellowtail and mangrove snapper, I believe, and plenty enough to have that night for dinner at the Hungry Tarpon, the restaurant at Robbie’s Marina where Jason picked us up. And we were lucky enough to take our trip in Jason’s brand-new 20’ boat, which is gorgeous! But here’s where I shall digress. When booking an experience - any kind of experience - with a total stranger lasting 4-5 hours, you hope against hope that you like each other. That a certain camaraderie develops - and fast. Jason is funny and smart, tells great stories, and is easy to talk to. But here’s the best and most important thing - he’s a good person. I asked him about his worst experience/customers he has had as a charter captain, and the story he told me and the way he handled the situation reaffirmed my faith in the human race. I’m not going to tell his story here - you can ask him if you like. But just know this - Jason cares about people and doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. We should all have the same moral compass. Thank you, Jason, for everything.

Captain Jason took us out from Robbie’s Marina for an evening Tarpon trip. He was ready on time with all the bait we needed pre-setup. We took off for maybe 10 minutes before we reached our first stop, where we caught a black tip shark and some nurse sharks. After not getting a Tarpon for the next two hours he recommended we move to another spot. Within 30 minutes we were hooked on a proper silver king. The fish fought for maybe a little under an hour before it got tangled it up beside a pier. Captain Jason did his very best to save the catch, passing the rod around piers and moving the boat around the marina to keep the line clear. Overall, amazing trip. Captain Jason walks you through what he is doing and takes time to teach you about the actual fishing. Would 100% recommend, and next time I am in Florida I will for sure re-book this charter!

We had an amazing experience fishing for Tarpon with Captain Jason! Our group consisted of four people (three adults and one child), and from the very beginning Captain Jason was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful. Since I was the only one who spoke English and the others only spoke Portuguese, we even mixed in some Spanish to communicate. Despite the language barrier, he took the time to explain everything about Tarpon fishing and made sure everyone understood what to do. After about a 10-minute ride from the marina, we reached our first fishing spot. Almost immediately after we cast our bait, we hooked into a huge Tarpon. The fight lasted close to an hour before the fish became tangled around a bridge and unfortunately escaped. Captain Jason did absolutely everything he could to save the fish, maneuvering the boat and guiding us through every possible option. Later, we caught a Lemon Shark and then hooked another Tarpon. Once again, we had an exciting battle, but the fish eventually wrapped itself around underwater structures and managed to escape. Even though we didn't land a Tarpon, the action, excitement, and adrenaline made the trip unforgettable. Captain Jason is a genuinely great guy, very knowledgeable, patient, and always in a good mood. He creates a fun atmosphere while also teaching you a lot about the fishery and the techniques involved. I highly recommend this charter to anyone visiting the Florida Keys. It was a true adventure from start to finish, and I would gladly book another trip with Captain Jason the next time I'm in Florida!

what an amazing time and experience. Jason was a great captain. Very friendly and knew the fishing areas and local history very well. i love the smaller boat experience you’ll get here. big boats feel like a process. this was fishing with great personal interactions among Jason and us. we hooked two 5’ black tips and my dream fish of catching a tarpon came true with a 5+ foot and 150lb tarpon. Jumped about 5 feet out of the water and made our hearts skip a beat. it was an hour fight right at the end of our trip and Jason never even thought about dropping the fish and heading home. we stayed on it until we landed it. what an awesome catch and trip. we highly recommend Jason. Ask about his travels… the stories and conversation is great. we will definitely head out with him again next time down in Isla !

We had a blast with Captain Jason yesterday. We shifted a day because of the winds and he communicated great in the days leading up to our trip. It was windy again when we left so he took us out a bit to give us a sense of what it would feel like, which was a helpful reality check. We took our Dramamine and opted to stay out. We had a blast! Jason was so much fun, very knowledgeable, knew where to go, and we caught tons of fish. He fileted them up so we could have them for lunch! Highly recommend! I’m coming back for lobster season…. 🦞🐟☀️🌴

Captain Jason provided an excellent first time tarpon fishing experience. I initially booked a morning charter but he recommended we change to a late afternoon charter where the fishing has been more productive lately. And he didnt dissapoint. We hooked a large tarpon juat before sunset. Captain Jason has a calm, laid back attitude ams was very helpful explaining everything we needed to know for a successful tarpon fishing experience! I highly recommend Katz Charters!

My wife and I were in Islamorada and booked a trip with Captain Jason. He called to say that the weather on our original booking was sketchy and suggested an alternative time that would be better. We were able to make it work and he came and picked us up. Right away, Captain Jason made us feel welcome and he asked what would make the best trip for us. He obviously has a ton of experience and had some really good suggestions. We headed out a few miles and immediately had luck with some barracuda. What a blast! We then went back towards land a bit and spent some time still fishing and caught a ton of fish. Captain Jason was extremely fun to chat with and he looked after us really well. His boat and equipment are in excellent shape and we were comfortable the whole time. If you're looking for a fun, relaxed, and productive fishing trip we highly recommend heading out with Captain Jason!

We did an evening Tarpon/Shark trip and had a blast catching a large lemon shark as well as a big nurse shark! The tarpon proved to be elusive given it was late in the season….we did get surprised by a nice 8 lb mutton snapper which was a welcomed bonus catch! Capt Jason was entertaining and it was a pleasure to be on board his boat!

Captain Katz had the perfect setup for us to introduce our kids to saltwater fishing. He was extremely well prepared and knew the exact spots to put us on some snapper. We also made a couple of stops and he hooked us up on a couple large baracudas that put up a great fight. We will be back for more adventures soon!
