Catfish fishing in Mississippi, United States is a big draw for anglers of all ages. The state’s rivers and reservoirs hold Blue Catfish, Flathead Catfish, and Channel Catfish. Many come for steady action and the chance at a trophy Blue. Warm water, long summers, and rich river currents make this fishery strong year-round.

Most trips use river fishing and bottom fishing with simple rigs. Cut bait works well for Blues and Channels. Live bait is common for Flatheads, which hunt near logs and rock piles. Guides may drift fish across flats or anchor on drop-offs. Night fishing can be great in summer when Catfish feed shallow.

Charter outings are easy for beginners and fun for families. Your captain supplies tackle, bait, and local know-how. Expect sturdy rods, circle hooks, and steady bites. Wear soft shoes, bring sun protection, snacks, and drinks. A small cooler is useful for cold water and, if allowed, cleaned fillets. Check with your captain about keeping fish and cleaning options.

Top areas include the Mississippi River and its big bends, the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, and Delta oxbow lakes. Popular reservoirs like Ross Barnett, Sardis, Grenada, Enid, Arkabutla, and Pickwick Lake also produce. Look for seams where currents meet, ledges, and timber near channels.

Before you go, review Mississippi fishing rules. Make sure you have the right fishing license and any needed permits. Regulations can change, including seasons, harvest limits, and gear rules. Ask your captain for guidance and check official sources before your trip.

    Great Birthday Trip

Dailey Charter was the BEST choice ever for a Birthday trip!! We LOVED Dailey. He was very knowledgeable. He knew the fish, the boats, the surrounding islands and shared info on each of them. We were fishing and learning at the same time. My son went fishing with friends on his 13th birthday at the lake, so for his 30th birthday we went out to sea. We caught Spanish Macrel, Crevalle Jacks (huge), and one Gaftopsail Catfish. Best Birthday Fun!!!

    A Guide that cares

I went by myself with him. I told him I don’t care. Let’s just go catch some fish. Literally for an hour he would hand me a baited pole after I reel one in. I never had time to bait a hook, We were catching so many fish. His new nickname is “Dad.” I may have accidentally stabbed him with a catfish.
