    (4 hour afternoon Striped Bass)

    Great family fun!

Captain Ira and First Mate Erica were so much fun. We caught two keepers and will be making some fish taco. This was a bday trip for our 12 year old and he was already asking when we can go again before we got off the boat.

Rockfish fishing is all about steady action and tasty fillets. Anglers use the name Rockfish for several species that live around reefs and rocky bottoms. They are known for colorful looks, firm white meat, and reliable bites that make every drop exciting.

You will catch them with bottom fishing and jigging. Drop a weighted rig to the seafloor and keep baits like squid, anchovies, or sardines near the bottom. A dropper loop is a simple rig that holds your bait just off the rocks to reduce snags. Metal jigs also work well when you lift and drop them with a steady rhythm.

Expect a fun, hands-on trip with frequent bites and mixed sizes. The fight is strong and steady, not blistering, which makes Rockfish fishing great for beginners, kids, and casual anglers. You may fish shallow reefs or deeper structure, depending on season and local conditions. Wear non-slip shoes and bring sun protection, a hat, polarized sunglasses, and layers for wind and spray. Pack snacks and water, and be ready for quick photos so you can release or keep fish as allowed.

Before you go, check local rules. Confirm fishing license or permit needs, open seasons, and harvest limits. Learn how to identify common species, and know which ones are protected. In many places, a descending device is recommended or required for deep releases. It helps return fish safely to the bottom.
