I've been obsessed with Fishing Jacksonville's St. Johns River and its backwater tributaries since I started fishing my home waters with my dad at around 8 years old. It's been a life-long study and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with those that share my passion for fishing. I know a variety of techniques and can probably accommodate your preferred style of fishing if you give me a heads up on your preferences beforehand.

Half Day Trip with my 9 year-old

Excursión de 5 Horas – Inicio Temprano por la Mañana2 adultos1 niño

This was another, awesome outing with Captain Chris on the St. Johns River. With the experience of a prior outing, I brought my 9 y/o daughter along and we had a great first trip (for her) on the boat. Our first catch actually came with a cast net after seeing some mullet jumping. We then used these as fresh bait and landed a 24" Redfish followed by Mangrove Snapper and Trout on live shrimp/mud minnows. Captain Chris has a fantastic knowledge of the area and is our go-to charter for heading out on the north side of the St. Johns'. Highly recommend!

Great Day Fishing with Captain Chris

Excursión de 4 Horas - Tarde Blitz2 adultos

New to the area, we were looking to get out on the St Johns and learn more about the river while (hopefully) catching some fish. We couldn't have asked for a better first trip. Captain Chris provided great communication in setting up the trip, and he had everything ready for us when we arrived at the boat landing. He guided us to roughly eight different spots, or so, on the river during our 3/4 day trip, and we had bites on all but one catching Snook, Mangrove Snapper, Trout, Redfish, and Flounder. Chris's boat is kid-friendly (I'll be returning with my daughter) and perfect for a two-person trip. A turn-key charter, he had all the tackle and live bait we needed for a productive day. He even offered to clean the fish for us once we returned to the landing. All in all a great day to remember!

Half day trip with capt. Chris

Excursión de 5 Horas – Inicio Temprano por la Mañana2 adultos

Was worried about rain but never happened. Chris, our captain, was just great. Took us all over the St. Johns in search of snook. Hooked one but broke off. Other than that caught a monster trout as well as several keeper red fish and almost too large trout. Highly recommend Chris. Plan to book another trip in the fall.

Banner Day/Father and Son!

ago 15, 2026 • Jacksonville
I Cherish Father and Son Charters because I have so many Fond Memories fishing with my Dad. I picked up Ron and John at Post Street public dock in Riverside. We had Tarpon rolling around the boat in short order. The fish seemed to be short striking on artificial lures, so we transitioned to live bait. John landed a four footer. We got some spectacular jumps out of this fish. Next stop we fished for snook. Nothing big but we caught a few fish drifting live shrimp beneath our Bomber Paradise Popper popping corks. Snook are a rae catch in Jacksonville. Just landing onevis quite a feat. Next we fished deep water with live bait. John scored a massive bull redfish to finish off our 4 hour blitz. The action continues and should carry on throughout October on the St. Johns River.

Tarpon Town!

ago 8, 2026 • Jacksonville
I did back2back trips on Friday. Vance Meyer chartered me for a solo short Afternoon Blitz. I picked him up at the YMCA dock Downtown Jacksonville. We cast netted a live well full of shrimp and we started out targeting snook. We only caught 1 little snook so we decided to Swing Big and target Tarpon with Artificial Lures. Vance got a hold of a 100+ lb.Tarpon. He put on quite a show for the crowd along the Jacksonville River Walk as this fish was quite the acrobatic jumper. After catching the fish of a life time we called it a day. Tarpon are the Captain"s Choice target species between now and the end of October.

The Bites on in Duuvalll!

ago 7, 2026 • Jacksonville
84 year old Jim McCunes 15 year old Grandson Bond and his best friend William were visiting from Atlanta. We started out targeting juvenile tarpon. It was exciting because the fish were rolling on the surface frequently. We jumped several fish on artificial lures before Bond finally got one boat side. Bond also caught a nice Black Drum on light tackle right in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. We then got on a good bite of small spotted searrout drifting live shrimp beneath Bomber Paradise Popper popping corks. We got a few mangrove snapper as well. This fast Duval County fishing Action will contine thru October on the St. Johns River.

Tarpon, Redfish and Drum on Artificial L

ago 2, 2026 • Jacksonville
Rob Johnston booked a 4 hour "Afternoon Blitz" for 2 anglers. We opted to fish with artificial soft plastic lures. Right Off the Bat we got 4 jumps out of a Tarpon right off the bat. The Tarpon were scarce so we made a transition. Our next fish was a decent Black Drum. We finished the day with a true Trophy Class Bull Redfish over 40 inches long. We fished very close to the boat ramp because there were some afternoon thunderstorms and I wanted to stay close to the ramp not to endanger my customers. It's been extremely hot lately, this late afternoon excursion was a great way to beat the heat. Quality not quantity has been our moto lately aboard Blue Cyclone. Fishing is Good right now and it should continue to get better in the coming weeks.

Spectacular Father & Son Action.

ago 2, 2026 • Jacksonville
I launched the boat in the dark so I could castnet some premium bait before picking up James and his 12 year old son JJ. I hate watching the sunrise in line at the bait store knowing the best bite is taking place. The Great St. Johns River Shrimp run has begun. I stuffed Blue Cyclone's livewells with live shrimp and finger mullet. We departed from the public dock Downtown Jacksonville. We started out drifting live shrimp beneath our Bomber Paradise Popper Popping corks. The action was fast on Spotted Seatrout, Jack Crevalle and Mangrove Snapper. Next stop we caught multiple snook up to 28 inches also on live shrimp. After that we decided to target Tarpon with Artificial Lures. I made the 1st cast to demonstrate the retrieve. I ended up hooking a tarpon on that cast. JJ landed his first ever tarpon. Next James hooked up and landed a tarpon as well. Needless to say these guys were talented Anglers. Next stop JJ hooked up immediately with a nice 30 inch Black Drum and then finished the day with a nice Bull Red. This Spectacular Action will continue aboard BLUE CYCLONE through the end of October.

It's RED HOT in Jacksonville, Fl

jun 11, 2026 • Jacksonville
Mike Powell is an experienced angler that prefers to target Trophy Fish with Artificial Lures. Mike and I departed St. Johns Marina boat ramp at daylight. There's nothing like the sound of a brand new MERCURY ProXS starting up at sunrise. Within minutes of our first stop you could hear another great sound, Mikes DRAG was SCREAMING We were using 5 inch YUM Sonar Minnows and they were a perfect match for the forage in the river. Mikes 1st two fish were absolute giants. Unfortunately they broke us off, but we ended up going 3 for 5 on bull redfish. All 3 fish were true trophy fish over 40 inches long and all out bites were on artificial lures. Mike caught 2 and insisted that I catch one. Our arms were cramping and we probably could have caught more but we decided to take a boat ride and scout for tarpon knowing our chances were slim this early in the summer. No Tarpon this time but it won't be long.
