''''''''''''''''''''''Captain Roger Gendron is an Orvis endorsed guide with over 30 years of experience guiding fly anglers. 'I started guiding the waters of Western Long Island Sound in 1989. As a local who has spent most of my life in that area, I began fishing the coast of Fairfield County Connecticut 45 years ago and was one of the first guides in the area to specialize in fly and light tackle fishing in shallow salt water. As well as teaching fly fishing and light tackle fishing techniques for over 3 decades, I also taught boat handling and navigation for private clientele and Boat Clubs of Fairfield County, CT.' 'Now, I practice my crafts on the incredible flats and in the back country of Charlotte Harbor here in Southwest Florida. Throughout my career I've been a pro staffer for Ranger Boats, Action Craft Boats, Yamaha, Sage Fly rods, Nautilus reels, Rio fly lines and St. Croix rods. I enjoy tying salt water flies and writing essays on the topic of fishing and guiding and several of my articles have been published by Coastal Angler Magazine.' Dedicated to a quality over quantity viewpoint, Roger has developed a reputation of providing a safe and enjoyable day on the water for his guests.''''''''''''''''''''''

Highly Recommend Captain Roger! Very knowledgeable and patient. The bite was slow, weather was not great, but we still managed to boat some fish. First time fly fishing in Florida, hopefully not the last.

Let's be real it was the first time fly fishing anywhere! To catch a few on fly on a windy day is quite impressive. Don't worry, as your casting continues to improve, so will the bite. Great effort out there.

Super great day fishing! Captain Roger always had a plan for the next place to catch fish and we did. Very chill experience soaking up nature which included dolphins, sharks, and manatees.

Bass bustin'

jun 7, 2019 • Punta Gorda
June is cranking with lots of great striper action on the fly rod. Water temps have crept nicely into the low to mid 60's and small bait schools, such as sand eels, have exploded into clouds of fish food. The fat Bass above crushed a popping bug skittering across the serene saline setting of the Norwalk Islands. After refusing several of the staple fluttering flies usually flung from my foredeck, she inhaled the combo of foam & feather on it's first flight. The Nautilus reel released line and backing at a smooth and steady pace, providing the perfect amount of resistance to bring this beauty boat side. The action continued through out the day and flies dealt from the dance floor outpaced a variety of other artificials launched incrementally from the stern. We got into some Bluefish this week as well, still rising on eels from time to time; mostly on the flood. Mostly though it is Bass; Schoolies of course, but some really nice middle weights are mixing in for a good pull. The next couple of weeks should continue to produce some terrific fly fishing.

Striper Invasion

jun 1, 2019 • Punta Gorda
Family fishing fun this morning, as brother, sister, father & uncle were sticking Stripers of the surface. Lots of swirls today as Bass bombarted baitfish, offering great sight casting ops. What a great start to June!

November 5, 2017

nov 3, 2017 • Punta Gorda
The first week of November came in like a lamb, but ended in a nasty, and persistent blow from the east that dropped temps about 20 + degrees overnight. Coupled with a full moon, the tides flooded the shoreline on high, and flushed it out on the ebb, taking with it the terrific fishing we were enjoying. I have always said when the weather is good, so is the fishing. And I suppose catching fat Albies while barefoot, in November was a bit of a gift. Yes, with water temps still in the low to mid 60's I predicted last week the action would continue through November, but I did not expect hard tails to stick around. No complaints over bonus big eyes. Perhaps I spoke too soon as the weekend was a bit of a bust, with only a handful of puny fish. I suspect, and hope, that the mayhem will resume when the conditions improve. We will be back to banging Bass and Blues until it's time for the big bird.

Fairfield County Fishing

jun 18, 2017 • Punta Gorda
The fishing has been good all week with transient fish competing with the locals for big bait buffet swimming near shore. Schoolies and the occasional keeper are inhaling flies near shore There are likely two more good weeks of the spring Striper sojourn, maybe three, before water temps inhibit all the inhaling.
