For Captain Joe, there's something magical about being on the ocean; the experiences he's had on the water are some of the most memorable and vivid memories of his entire life. He believes, 'the ocean humbles, teaches, challenges, and rewards...sometimes all at the same time!' He has spent his entire life on the water, not only fishing, but kayaking, snorkeling, racing sailboats, and more. He's fished all over the West Coast for numerous species and enjoyed the challenge of the hunt and especially the table fare of freshly-caught seafood. It's Captain Joe's goal to provide a memorable experience on the ocean that is safe and fun. He enjoys meeting new people and sharing what he knows about catching fish off the Oregon coast. One of his favorite experiences taking people out on the ocean is seeing them land their first Salmon, Halibut, or whatever kind of fish they're chasing. He's comfortable working with all ages and experience levels and will work hard to get you on the fish and make sure you have a great time. After four very successful seasons at the helm of Good Time Charlie, Captain Joe is excited to start his fifth season off the Oregon Coast!

Joe had great communications prior to the trip and was simultaneously professional and laid back during the trip, making him a pleasure to fish with. No stress, just catching some nice lings and rock fish. He catered well to the experienced and inexperienced anglers in our crew. Highly recommend!

Medio Día – Bacalao Largo/Pez de Roca Compartido • 5 adultos • 1 niñoOceans conditions were not as good as hoped for, but we still caught several ling cod and limited on rock fish. Captain Joe did an awesome job teaching and encouraging the kids and adults. The boat was clean and tidy. He had all the equipment and tackle to keep us fishing. Definitely going to do it again when we’re back in the Oregon.

But i thought we did very well in the less than ideal conditions early on and really got it going once our drift slowed a little late in morning. 10 lingcod was high boat in the fleet nearshore (including the big charters!). thanks again!!

We caught our limit of rockfish and some big Ling Cod! It was a great day and a lot of core memories were made! We would recommend this charter to everyone!

Some of us were worried about being seasick and he was very accomodating. We are completely new to any kind of fishing and we had a great time, caught a bunch of fish, and the only thing better than the fishing was the company - if we are ever back in the Newport area we’ll for sure go fishing again with Captain Joe.

Joe's intelligence and respect to the ocean is out of this world. Not one dull moment even when my nephews got sea sick and needed a nap, he still attended to them and made sure everything was ok then woke em up to reel in the fish. Gracias Senor for you hospitality and cant wait to fish with you again in the future.🙏🏽

Amazing Lingcod Fishing

Had an amazing day out with a great crew. Lingcod bite was tremendous. Had 21 lingcod in the boat within 2 1/2 hours of fishing. Also scored a likit of jice grade rockfish including a couple real nice sea trout (greenlings).
Left the dock shortly after 7am and got baits down by 7:45…before we could get all 6 rods down we were already bringing fish up!
This spring has been great whenever we can get out. Of course safety is top priority so we have had several cancellations and reschedules…the nature of spring fishing off the oregon coast, but we want people to have an enjoyable experience and not have to have trouble standing up! Look foreard to having more epic days out next week!!

Lights Out Lingcod Bite!!!

Lingcod fishing has been so good as of late that we’re releasing lots of legal fish after we get our limit while in pursuit of our rockfish bags. We have been catching them on both jigs and bait. Light tackle when drift is slow enough, medium tackle on fast drifts with a little more weight. Our lingcod limit is now 3 fish per person so we’re currently allowed one more fish than we normally are. Take advantage of this winter opportunity to put some high quality tablefare away in your freezers and enjoy the beautiful pacific ocean!!

Coho Salmon Showing Up

The coho salmon fishery is starting to get going for us. While they are still summer size, they seem be be a little bigger than normal this year this early. Looking forward to some days of fast action in this fishery. It can be hard to keep more than 3 rods in the water when the bite gets hot! This is a good introductory fishery for kids just getting started in salmon fishing because there's usually pretty good action.

Lingcod bite stays HOT!!

The spring lingcod bite remains HOT! Good quality fish and lots of action. Been consistently bringing home limits of nice lingcod and good grade rockfish when we can get out.
Fish have been biting herring, jigs, live kelpies, everything. Lots of fun for adults and kids alike.
Get out here while its hot!

Hot lingcod fishing

Left the dock shortly after first light on an outgoing current. It was a little bumpy going over the bar but once clear of the ebb slop the ocean was beautiful! Turned into a spectacular spring day off the oregon coast. We had steady action on good grade rockfish from the beginning of the first drift. The lingcod bite is excellent too. Limits of lingcod and rockfish for the boat and back to the dock well befofe lunch. We got lingcod on flukes, gribs, herring, shrimpflies…whatever we threw at them, they ate it today! Great crew work, good storytelling and an excellent vibe all around! What a day on the ocean

Outstanding lingcod bite

This is one of our favorite times of the year to fish our nearshore lingcod fishery and today didn’t disappoint! We left the harbor shortly after sunrise with a brisk easterly breeze and bone chilling 37 degree temp. The breeze made it feel like mid 20s; fortunately the cabin was warm and spirits high. We passed a couple commercial crab boats in the channel on the way out and headed towards the fishing grounds. The first drift was a little faster than i like due to the breeze but we quickly hooked into a couple lingcod and rockfish. Hy the second drift the wind had backed off a bit and the temp was warming up as the sun rose in the sky. No swell whatsoever and shaping uo to be a beautiful day. Action was consistent on the ensuing drifts and everyone was having a good time talking story and reeling in fish. The crew work was outstanding with everyone working together and enjoying the day. We fijished the day with limits of lingcod and rockfish. We also released a bunch of legal sized lingcod once we had already reached our limit and were working on our finishing our rockfish bag. Such a special winter day with a flat ocean and excellent fishing with fun crew!
