Hey there Capt. Vinnie here, back again with another great Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report. For this week the weather has been excellent besides the heat, we have had some really nice flat calm seas and there has been some fish biting as well. The seaweed this week has seem to slowed down and given us somewhat of a break which intern lets us fish the way we know how to, on the inshore side of things the bonitos or little tunny have been in full force early in the mornings while trolling most depths inside of 150 feet have had great numbers of these fish, fishing with planners to take baits below the surface is going to keep your bait in the strike zone the longest. The best lure choice this week has been a 2.5inch blue spoon, the smaller profile makes it appeal to a lot of different gamefish. Also this week we did get some kingfish on this very same lure, just goes to show you whatever is around is what is going to bite that day. Kingfish have been very sporadic but we tend to see a good run of them in the fall when the mullet come down our coast. Bottom fishing this week has been pretty good when the current has been light but majority of the bigger snappers have been deep, as deep as 400 feet. If you can get those right conditions to be able to fish those depths the fish have been there, Larger vermillion snappers have been the primary catch but we did get super lucky and catch a very respectable american red snapper which is rare for our area but not so rare if you were fishing in the gulf side, you really never know what you might catch out there. For an offshore report this week the hot topic has been mahi, we had a nice push of them and they have been offshore on larger weed patches as well as birds too. The best advice I could give is to be ready with live bait and spinning rods incase you hook up and there is a school of mahi with the ones you have on, you want to maximize any opportunity you might get because it could be the only one all day, other then mahi offshore there has been a fair amount of skipjack and blackfin tuna on birds chasing bait, the key is to look for the birds and keep your lures far behind the boat, the noise of the boat will make the tuna go deep so if you have your baits way behind the boat by the time you pass them they will be on there way up and your baits will be the only thing around. Tuna feed in schools so its important when you hook up with one to not slow the boat down which can result in multiple hook ups. Hello there Capt. Vinnie back with another deep sea fishing report for the Fort Lauderdale area. For the report this week i can say honestly fishing has been a little tough specially trolling, the seaweed has still been an issue and we have been experiencing heavy tides as of late. On the days that conditions have lined up trolling wise we have been catching a good amount of false albacore, as well as some king mackeral. All this action has been taking place in depths around 100 feet and shallower. Fishing a spoon on our deep lines has been producing the best action and getting the most bites. Surface baits that are meant to look like a small squid or flying fish have been getting some action as well. With all this tide there was a small flurry of summer time sailfish, we weren't lucky enough to get one this week but it is nice to see a few caught. When there is heavy currents one thing that is very productive is anchoring up and fishing snapper. We had some very good action on yellowtail and mutton snapper this week fishing as shallow as 30 feet. When you have heavy current in the deep there usually is light current in shallow and that is the perfect recipe for chumming up snappers and free lining small chunks of bait to replicate pieces of free chum. When your anchored up for a significant amount of time your building a spot, so you never know what will show up specially with current and chum, we have been anchored before in depths around 50 feet and had sailfish swim up as well as mahi mahi. There was only a few days this week that the current lightened up enough for us to fish the deep for vermillion and yelloweye snappers and we had some great success. Some of the yelloweye snappers were as big as 6lbs, in my personal opinion these fish are one of the best if not the best snapper to eat that we catch here in Fort Lauderdale. For an offshore report this week mahi have been slow in the beginning of the week but there was a really nice push of them towards the end of the week, right about this time is when we start to see some consistency in that fishery all the way till late fall, i have high hopes for the next few weeks as we have a few mahi trips coming up. Hey there Capt. Vinnie here, its been a solid week of deep sea fishing here in Fort Lauderdale and we have the pictures and report to prove it!. This week just like the title says full moon deep sea fishing, the moon and moon phase plays a very big part of what is biting out there. The moon being full is best for wahoo usually a few days before and a few days after. Which we did get lucky enough to get a very nice one this week "pictured". Trolling this week hasn't been to hot, most days has been slow unless you are catching bonito, the moon has made a very strong current out there and a lot of fish usually don't like to feed in that type of tide. But the one thing that was hot this week was snapper fishing. We had some great trips this week anchor fishing on shallow reefs. Summer time snapper fishing is great around the moons because thats when the snapper are spawning specifically mangrove snapper. Now mangroves are more of night time feeders but we happen to anchor up on and old spot I used to fish in the night time for them around this time of year and the fish were there. We ended up limiting out very quickly, and all this is due to the moon phase right now. When we fished other spots while on anchor we had a great bite of yellowtail snapper as well as some really good kingfish action. The crazy part is all this has been taking place very shallow around 30 feet of water, just because you are shallow doesn't mean there are not big fish, its all timing. Knowing where to be at what time. Majority of the mangrove snappers we caught where around 3-4lbs with a few pushing 5lbs, and for the yellowtail snapper around 2lbs was the average. Bottom fishing has been the name of the game for the last week or so but as we get on the back side of the moon i'm pretty sure there will be some wahoo to catch, as well as blackfin tunas too. As for a mahi report this week they seem to getting to be steady but they have been way out there close to 20 miles so your going to need a full day trip in order to reach them. Still looking for birds is going to be a key sign that life is in the area, as well as weed patches and anything floating too. We are getting closer and closer to the time when there going to be steady in the next few weeks I will hopefully have a nice mahi report. Hello there, Capt. Vinnie here... What a great week of deep sea fishing it has been here in Fort Lauderdale. Once again I would like to thank all of our great clients that have kept us busy during the month of July, we are very grateful for you guys and we always try our best to make sure everyone has a good time. For this week the fishing report which is what you all came for has been very good. A few days this week we had a southwest wind which helped with the seaweed problem we have been having. The southwest wind helps push a lot of the weed offshore which is like a double edges sword, it makes the fishing inshore easy for trolling but that type of wind is bad for offshore fishing specially dolphin. This week we did have some really good catches while trolling on the reef including a few very nice wahoo. We don't typically catch a lot of wahoo in the month of July but the ones we do catch are usually very nice sized. The bonito are here now and in full force although they aren't great eating in my opinion you can eat them and we do have some customers that really like them, but if your looking to just catch fish and something that pulls hard they are a great fish for that. Other then those species previously mentioned there has been some kingfish but they are sporadic, i think when the mullet show up in the fall is when the kingfish are going to be really solid but until then it will be a slow to steady pic. Blackfin tuna have been hard to come by this week, seems that they are taking a break unless you go late in the afternoon like as the sun is going down, or as they say the witching hour has been really productive. The depths from 180-300 have been really productive but just keep in mind this has been a late evening bite only. Last but not least dolphin or mahi mahi have been very sporadic some days they have been in close and other days way offshore like over 20 miles. I still think its to early for us to be getting them really solid the fall months seem to produce better results. If you do travel offshore looking for mahi you have to find birds if you find birds you will find the mahi, but like i said previous they have been all over and its been hard to pin point where there going to be, i would say just be patient and soon the mahi will be here. Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, first id like to say sorry for the delay in reports we have been super busy with a lot of sport fishing charters and we are grateful for everyone of our wonderful customers that have come out deep sea fishing with us over the last week. Now for the report.... Fishing this week in Fort Lauderdale has been good some days and some days it has been slow and a lot of the reason it has been slow is due to the seaweed, I know that sounds like an excuse but there are days that it is everywhere and it makes it very hard to troll, live bait, and bottom fish. The main problem is it gets on your line and your lures and that makes endless job for crew to keep baits clean in order to fish properly. But on a side note the days the seaweed is light and we can fish the way we know how we have been catching a good amount of fish. Trolling on the reef has been productive for species like kingfish, bonito, and a very few summer time sailfish if your lucky. Inside of 150 feet of water is where most of this action takes place. Trolling with surface baits and deep baits fished with planers has been the best way to get bites, a lot of our bites have been coning on our deep baits specially when the sun is up and the temps are hot, the cooler water below the surface seems to keep the fish more active. Just outside of the reef if the seaweed is light there has been blackfin tuna and also the predators that eat them being wahoo. Depths around 200 feet on out to 400 has been the most consistent for these type of fish, and in my personal opinion the afternoon specially late afternoon have been best for tunas. For the wahoo early morning seems to be the ticket but outgoing tide with a north current has been the perfect recipe for wahoo, pretty much everything has to line up right in order for them to be around and hungry. Other then that this week we had some really good bottom fishing. We had some great catches of snapper, mostly vermillion snapper and a few nice yellow eye snapper too. Most of the rock piles around 240 feet have been productive but some days you have to hit a few spots to put a catch together. August is a great month for snapper fishing out here in Fort Lauderdale so stay tuned in future reports for more snapper action. Hey there Capt. Vinnie again from the command center to bring you another great deep sea fishing report. This week has been a busy week with lots of great clients from all over the world due to the world soccer cup that is going on right now, and we are very grateful for all of our great customers. Fishing this week has been good for the most part some days better then others which is pretty standard right now, one thing that has been making it really tough is the seaweed! Which sounds crazy to blame a slow day of fishing on something like that but i'm here to tell you it is a real thing and it is a real problem somedays. The biggest problem with the seaweed is the fact that it makes the crew have to work four times harder then normal, specially the first mate. His job is to keep our baits clean and days when the weed is very bad that becomes and all day job that never ends. Another problem is the fact that the seaweed may dictate where you can and can't fish. But we are professionals here and we are good at our job and the old expression of persistence pays is true and I can attest. Grinding it out is the only thing we can do and the days the weed is light best believe I take full advantage. For the fishing this week we have had a variety of a few different species biting, early in the week we landed a very nice wahoo just before the full moon. Depths around 200-300 feet have been producing a few blackfin tuna if you find an area weed free. Other then tunas in the 200 depths there has been some really nice sized barracudas. This week we did have a flurry of sailfish which is pretty rare for the month of June, but always a great fish to catch no matter what time of year. Funny story we had some great clients from Tennesssee that wanted a sailfish this week and I told them it was unlikely just for the simple fact they are not around and low and behold we did catch a sailfish, goes to show no matter how many years we have been doing this you just never know what your going to catch. Bonitos have been around but not in the numbers that they normally are this time of year but everything has been a little late on there migration patterns this year so more than likely they are not far behind schedule. We have been having some really blue water this week so kingfish have been somewhat a little difficult to find some days, but the days the water is dirty it is worth trying for them because there has been a few around and they have been nice sized. Moving offshore there has been a few mahi mahi scattered around, depths around 800 feet seem to be the best place to be looking but the mahi have also been on debris and seaweed patches, a lot of the mahi we have been fisning have been in a school so if you happen to get lucky and hook a few it's important to make sure you have some other bait to cast to them just incase. You can go from catching 3 mahi to possibly catching 20 mahi if your ready for them when a school comes up following your fish. Average size on the mahi have been 5-10lbs. The mahi were hot earlier in the week but faded a little as the full moon approached but we tend to see slow fishing all around right on the moon for all species, best times are just before and just after. Being on the backside of the moon I have high hopes for this week and hopefully some great new pictures of great catches for next weeks report.
