Storm Chasing and Big Wins
Julio 2, 2026
A Masterclass in Tactical Adaptability The action started early and heavy aboard the Mathis. By 8:00 AM, our Mexican guests—who were already riding high and celebrating their national soccer team's recent victory against Ecuador—were screaming as the reels went off. We successfully fought and safely released a beautiful, hard-hitting Sailfish right by the gunwale after it nearly straightened the hook. The first part of the morning was spent in absolute paradise; the ocean was a literal swimming pool with clean currents. However, around 10:00 AM, the weather shifted drastically, bringing in moderate rain, lightning, and heavy winds. Instead of calling it a day, we executed a swift tactical audible: we moved closer inshore to seek shelter along the coastline. This strategic move turned out to be an absolute goldmine. Sheltered by the coast, the lines stayed locked, delivering a non-stop blitz of six Yellowfin Tunas, three Mahi-Mahi (Dorados), and one massive, trophy-sized Spanish Mackerel. After nearly eight hours of high-intensity action and adapting perfectly to everything nature threw at us, our guests decided their coolers were full enough. An unforgettable testament to local expertise and resilience! Daily Log: Duration: Full-Day Charter (Approx. 8 Hours) Weather Conditions: Calm morning turning into a heavy storm with rain, wind, and lightning by mid-day; shifted to sheltered inshore waters for safety. Total Catch: 1 Sailfish (Safely released), 6 Yellowfin Tunas, 3 Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), 1 Large Spanish Mackerel. Key Highlight: Expert navigation and tactical transition from offshore to inshore due to severe weather, ensuring passenger safety while maintaining a relentless catch rate. #StormFishing #Sailfish #YellowfinTuna #MahiMahi #CostaRicaSportfishing #HerraduraBeach #PuraVida

Smooth Seas and Full Coolers
Junio 25, 2026
A Perfect Half-Day Run Today was an absolute blessing on the water. We headed out for a half-day private charter, and the Pacific rewarded us with pristine, glass-like sea conditions and beautiful weather. Our guests were incredibly relaxed, enjoying the coastal breeze while we tracked down the active current lines. The strategy clicked perfectly. We ran a highly productive session, successfully landing four beautiful Mahi-Mahi (Dorados) along with a solid school of hard-fighting Yellowfin Tunas (3). There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of seeing your clients truly happy, enjoying the peace of the ocean, and heading back to port with a premium harvest of ultra-fresh white meat ready for a world-class local lunch. Today was a flawless reminder of why we love what we do—smooth sailing, fantastic camaraderie, and absolute delicacies heading straight to the table. Thank God for another stellar day on the deck! Daily Log: Duration: Half-Day Charter Sea Conditions: Calm and smooth waters (glassy sea) Total Catch: 4 Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), 3 Yellowfin Tunas Key Highlight: A highly relaxing and successful family-style trip, combining comfortable coastal navigation with premium edible catches secured for a shore-to-table lunch. #MathisOceanAdventures #MahiMahi #YellowfinTuna #HalfDayFishing #CostaRicaCharters #HerraduraBeach #PuraVida

Tailored Tactics and Quick Action:
Junio 24, 2026
A Family Fishing Success For the second time in less than two weeks, we had the privilege of welcoming a family from Ukraine on board the Mathis. They came to us with a very specific strategic goal: they wanted to skip trolling entirely and focus 100% on spinning and bottom fishing. Even though we located a productive current very close to the coast, we immediately adapted our setup to match their preference. The strategy paid off beautifully. The family had an incredible time experiencing the fast-paced, hands-on action of casting and jigging. In a short period, they successfully brought in seven Rainbow Runners, a Surgeonfish, and a Triggerfish (pez chancho)—all excellent white-meat species known for their fantastic flavor. As often happens with open-ocean adventures, the wind and swell picked up, causing heavy seasickness for some of the family members. Prioritizing their comfort and safety above all else, we made the executive decision to head back to port early. Despite the shorter trip, the family left completely satisfied, with coolers packed with fresh fish and great memories of their coastal battle. Daily Log: Duration: Inshore Charter (Returned early due to passenger seasickness) Technique: Bottom fishing and Spinning (No trolling) Total Catch: 7 Rainbow Runners, 1 Surgeonfish, 1 Triggerfish Key Highlight: Adaptive crew shifting tactics instantly to match client preferences, balancing high catch rates with passenger safety and comfort during rough weather. #MathisOceanAdventures #BottomFishing #Spinning #RainbowRunner #FamilyCharter #HerraduraBeach #CostaRicaFishing #PuraVida

Ticking Off the Wish List:
Junio 22, 2026
From Skepticism to a Grand Slam Weather forecasts on digital apps don't always reflect the tactical reality of the ocean. Despite some initial skepticism about the day's predictions, our guest from Germany, Tobi, gave us a vote of confidence and trusted our local expertise. We knew that with the right strategy and focus, the ocean would deliver. We didn't have to wait long. Just an hour and a half after casting off, the reels screamed, and Tobi got to experience the pure, raw adrenaline of battling the sovereign of the shallows: a magnificent Roosterfish. With the energy high and the target accomplished, we headed wider for more action. Line after line, the ocean kept delivering beautiful fights and culinary art. Tonight, Tobi is celebrating with traditional German Fischbrötchen made with ultra-fresh Pacific fish! By the end of the run, our board was spectacular: two Mahi-Mahi, one Rainbow Runner, a majestic Sailfish (safely released), and that incredible Roosterfish. In Tobi’s own words: "So, we were very satisfied. Two fish off the wish list! It couldn't be better.?" Mission accomplished! Daily Log: Duration: Full day. Achieved Species: 1 Roosterfish, 1 Sailfish (Liberated), 2 Mahi-Mahi, 1 Rainbow Runner. Highlight: Two fulfilled species from the customer's Wish List in a single trip. From the cover to the German-style table (Fischbrötchen). #InshoreFishing #Needlefish #RoosterfishChallenge #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #Persistence #SportfishingLife

Earning the Respect of a Peer: A Masterc
Junio 20, 2026
There is no greater professional pride than welcoming a fellow chárter captain from Florida onto our deck. Having a peer on board is always a welcome challenge that pushes our crew to deliver the absolute highest standard of service. Once again, the ocean and our strategy proved that you don’t need a full day to achieve legendary results—our 5-hour morning run was an absolute triumph. We headed out approximately 18 miles from the coast, locking into a precise blue current that held all the elements we were tracking. The action started almost immediately with a beautiful double hook-up on hard-fighting Yellowfin Tuna. Just ten minutes after resetting our lines, a magnificent Sailfish crashed the spread, putting on an incredible show. By midday, our mission was deeply accomplished: five premium Yellowfin Tunas secured for the kitchen, one spectacular Sailfish successfully released, and a Rainbow Runner to round out an exceptional shore-to-table feast. When a Florida captain leaves your boat impressed, you know you're doing things right! Daily Log: Duration: 5 Hours Fishing Area: Offshore (Aprox. 18 Nautical Miles). Captures Achieved: 5 Yellowfin Tunas, 1 Sailfish (Safely released), 1 Rainbow Runner. Highlight: Service approved and praised by a professional charter captain from Florida. #CostaRicaFishing #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #SailfishRelease #SportFishingCostaRica #SportfishingLife #MathisFishingLegends #MahiMahi

Dreams Turned Into Reality: A Masterclas
Junio 14, 2026
We cast off early for a high-intensity, 5-hour morning charter aboard the Mathis with a very clear, ambitious objective: head offshore, rig up the Ballyhoo, and track down the titans of the Central Pacific. Our strategy took us about 25 nautical miles out, exactly where Captain Jorge calculated the blue currents would be holding the action. The ocean rewarded our precision beautifully. In just a few hours of tactical offshore trolling, we achieved what many hope for in a full day. We successfully brought to the boat two massive, spectacular Sailfish, three hard-fighting Yellowfin Tunas, and a gorgeous Mahi-Mahi (Dorado). Seeing our guests' faces as their fishing dreams turned into reality right on our deck is exactly why we do this. For the limited time we had, the results were absolutely extraordinary. Mission deeply accomplished, coolers filled, and memories made for a lifetime! Daily Log: Duration: 5 Hrs (Morning). Fishing Area: Offshore (Approx. 25 Nautical Miles). Technique and Sait: I troll with Ballyhoo (scribe). Captures Achieved: 2 Sailfish (Safely released), 3 Yellowfin Tunas, 1 Great Mahi-Mahi. #InshoreFishing #Needlefish #RoosterfishChallenge #SeaLegacy #AnglerSkill #Persistence #SportfishingLife
