6hr Trip for the Books

The skies were grey but the seas were calling! With rain in the forecast we knew we had a short window to get offshore and put in some work to get it done before the raindrops started! We decided on a wreck closer in to shorten up the drive time! After a 14 mile run offshore the 1st spot we tried didn't give us great results so we picked up and ran a mile or so to the next hole! It was apparent this spot was gonna be stingy giving up keepers as well! Even though the fish were biting and the fish-on yells were constant we decided to move to the next spot! As we pulled up, the MFD screen exploded with life and I knew this was gonna be the honey hole we needed! Send them down to 70ft and get ready to fight guys was all we could get out before the absolute fish feeding frenzie took place! Every drop resulted in a keeper mingo or triggerfish! Sometimes 2 if not 3 at a time! The release of soon to be legal Red Snapper(season is currently closed)was intense as well! When all the foam vanished and the blood and scales were rinsed from the deck, we high fived and looked at our catch of amazing Vermillions, grunts, and triggerfish and knew we were blessed with an amazing catch! We decided it was time to head north and try to outrun the rain! As we apporoched the marina, we watch the rain clouds gather and take aim, but the clouds were to slow as we pulled in and tied off just as the sprinkles started! Once all the days catch was offloaded, we headed down to the covered cleaning table where the fish were cleaned with expert care and then fully bagged and iced down for the journey home to Kentucky!

These are from our 1/2 day(6hr) trips! We've been able to dial in the mingos and triggerfish and have had an absolute blast doing it. With being able to locate them a little closer offshore, we're not having to run as long which has increased fishing times giving us great catches to bring home!

The weather was great and the seas were fantastic! Seas were around 1ft and the Vermillion Snapper were on fire! With an average weight of 3lbs each it was an absolute blast catching these fish on the light action tackle! Vermillion Snapper are a white flaky (with a hint of sweet) meat that leaves you wanting more! Red Snapper were were biting extremely well and the Grey Triggerfish bite is making us excited for the season to open March 1st!
