Winter is finally behind us and Spring is in the air. The fishing is really starting to heat up as water temperatures increase and bait moves onto the flats. The fish are moving out of their winter pattern and are ready to feed. This is one of the best times of year to target an inshore slam (Snook, Redfish, and Trout) in large numbers. Flats fishing will only get better over the next several weeks and my calendar is filling up with very few week days left. After a cool start to January we finally got some warmer weather this week. The warmer weather has the fish ready to eat and we had a strong redfish bite on a January 25th full day trip. We got roughly 20 reds up to 32” along with a handful of snook and trout. The February bite will only get better as water temperatures rise and we move into spring. Some of the best Snook fishing days can come in February as the fish move onto the flats on the warmer days. Along with snook, the redfish and trout bite only gets better as we get closer to spring. February and early March is consider one of the best times of year to get a trophy sized trout in the 26” plus range.
