THE SEASON IS HERE AND HADDOCK ARE IN
THE SEASON IS HERE AND HADDOCK ARE IN
avril 24, 2026
The pictures attached are from last year's Haddock/early Spring Season. Current, Haddock have started to come in and it looks to be a good start to the season. Red fish are still around in abundance too. Spring Cod is off the table. The Recreationally recommendations were not to have a Spring Cod catch due to how the numbers are for these fish. With the cold weather behind us and warmer weather beginning to come in, the Haddock catch will keep getting better. The later start to the season with the catch is due to the ocean temperatures. Right now the temps are about 45 degrees. With the first charters beginning tomorrow, Adventure and Catch will be on these guys for a great chowder, fish fry or anything else you can think of for a tasty meal at the end of the day. On another note, I must ask all guests to please be aware, and to this I am speaking very open and honestly. Each year I set the prices as low as I can to earn an honest living and maintain the boat and all that goes with trying to run this business. This past year we ended with fuel at $3.84 per gallon of Diesel. The prices were trending down, and my election was only to raise rates to reflect maintenance and slip fee increases as insurance stayed flat for me. However, after the sea trial and fill up yesterday, I was in shock. In all the years of working this business, I have not seen the price of fuel like this. The current fuel price per gallon is $5.65 for Diesel. Due to this, a fuel surcharge will be added the day of the trip. Currently, this charge is $1.65 per gallon. On a 60 Gallon burn, that would be a $99 charge at the end of the trip. On a side note, should a mate be on board and usually, I do not carry one, but if one is, he is working for Gratuity. Many of you do know this, but, at the moment with the start of the season, a mate will be onboard due to safety consideration and for the comfort of all guests. The industry standard is typically 20%. Finally, many upgrades have been done to increase our success on the water. New for this year is the following: Brand new Sonar system and Lowrance 12" head unit with structure scan, down imagining and mapping a second transducer has been added. If a fish farts will see it! A new heat exchanger for engine reliability was added. A custom prop, pitched, cupped and tuned to the boat was added for additional speed and economy. A new 90:1 anchor/pot hauler was added to the boat along with a "second station" in the cockpit (fishing area of the boat) This includes steering and throttling and will make Tuna/Shark fishing better and even more successful. Many thanks go to the folks at Dover Marine in Dover New Hampshire for all they do to keep us safe on the water! Looking forward to seeing you all out there on Big Blue and enjoying the memories, catches and smiles that will last a lifetime. - Capt. Andy

What a way to have ended the 2025 season
What a way to have ended the 2025 season

# 2025 Season Recap & 2026 Fishing Report - Adventure and Catch Charters The 2025 season closed with some of the most exceptional fishing the Gulf of Maine has offered in years. From Labor Day weekend through October, Adventure and Catch crews experienced non-stop action on giant Pollockโ€”trip after trip of trophy fish made this fall truly legendary. While the season brought its share of challenges, including a slower-than-usual Tuna season, the incredible highs far outweighed any setbacks. And the season starts with Spring Haddock Success (April - Mid-June) The season began strong in April with outstanding Haddock action through mid-June. We limited or near-limited on most every trip, sending anglers home with coolers full of premium table fare. Even when dogfish moved in mid-June and conditions became more challenging, our crews consistently found fish and ensured everyone left with quality catches. However, the transition that follows early Haddock and leads to the Giant Bluefin Tuna was a challenge. (June โ€“ Mid August) The 2025 Bluefin Tuna season presented unique challenges. Heavy commercial pressure on baitfish populationsโ€”particularly herring and bunkerโ€”disrupted traditional feeding patterns. Industrial netting and dragging operations swept up bait schools early and in deeper water, delaying the Tuna arrival until mid-to-late August. This would prove to provide some great fights and hookups. But, in the end, the need to move off the traditional closer grounds during mid-summer to more offshore locations was needed. Closer grounds like Old Scantum proved tougher due to commercial activity, Adventure and Catch's willingness to explore and run farther offshore paid dividends. We located productive grounds and delivered exceptional catches for our anglers willing to make the journey and lead to the incredible Fall season. **Fall Pollock Bonanza** The season's grand finale came with what may have been the best Pollock fishing in Gulf of Maine memory. From September through October, we hit giant Pollock consistently, creating the kind of bent-rod action that anglers dream about. ****Looking forward to 2026*** At the time of writing this report, I am proud to say that I am a member of the Gulf of Maine Recreational Advisory Council and it is my hope that not only will my knowledge help my Charters experience better catches, but it will also help impact the health of our fishery. Looking at modeling data, the early indicators show an outstanding season ahead for Haddock with potential limits of 15 fish per angler. Further, there are preliminary discussions for possible spring Cod retention in addition to the more traditional fall Cod retention from September โ€“ October. These two trends are highly encouraging and good signs for the season in general. As for the old girl โ€“ Adventure and Catch, well we have some enhancements being made this off season. A New custom bait station for efficient rigging is being added along with additional helm and throttle station at the stern for better boat control while fishing. In addition, another sonar/GPS station and transducer is being added for enhanced fish detection. But, the boat needs some love too and a new heat exchanger for improved engine performance along with a custom-designed propeller for better speed and fuel economy are being added. However, the catch matters and you need to be able to trust that hook and line. Therefore, every deep-sea reel has been professionally rebuilt and spooled with the finest line available. We've removed all old braided line and installed **brand new Gen3 16x Diamond 150-200# braid**โ€”the most proven, tournament-grade line on the market. After several heartbreaking break-offs on trophy fish (including Halibut) in 2025, we're stacking every advantage in your favor. When you hook into the fish of a lifetime aboard Adventure and Catch, you'll have the best equipment giving you the best shot at boating it. So with all that said, the 2026 season runs April through late October/early November. Visit Adventure and Catch to secure your dates. **Target Grounds & Trip Options include the following: - **Half-Day Trips**: Old Scantum and sections of Jeffreys Ledge - **Full-Day & Marathon Trips**: Jeffreys Ledge, Platts Bank, Three Dory Ridge, and Cashes Ledge - **Custom Adventures**: Including overnight trips (up to 4 anglers)โ€”just like the incredibly successful late-October overnight we ran in 2025 For the latest fishing reports and custom trip configurations, contact Captain Andy directly. Keep your lines tight, stay safe, and we'll see you on the water soon. Captain Andy Adventure and Catch Charters
