Résumé du voyage

Persistence, Lessons, and the One That Got Away Sportfishing is a sport of passion, and the ocean doesn't always read the previous day's reports. After hearing great action updates, we charged out early with high expectations. We put in two solid hours of intense scouting from the first light, but mother nature gave a resounding "no" to every single boat that cleared the marina today. The morning only yielded a small Black Tuna, but we refused to give up. Chasing a blue-water alert, we pushed the Mathis further offshore, navigating up to 35 miles deep into beautiful, crystalline blue water looking for the right current. We ran hard, testing our limits, but the bite remained stubborn. It wasn't until we were on our return run that a massive Sailfish showed up, curiously shadowing the gunwale. We circled back, presented the bait perfectly, and teased him into a ferocious strike! The reel screamed, and the battle was on. Our young, apprentice angler took the rod, but a lack of experience in keeping the line tight and executing heavy pumps allowed the monster to gain the upper hand. The sailfish threw the hook and vanished back into the blue. At the end of a grueling day, our board read two Black Tunas and a heartbreaking loss. But that is the beauty of this sport: we win some, we lose some, but we never stop hunting. Every tough day is a lesson that builds better fishermen for tomorrow! Daily Log: Duration: Full-Day Scouting Charter (Approx. 8 Hours) Distance: Offshore up to 35 Nautical Miles Total Catch: 2 Black Tunas (1 Sailfish lost at the boat) Key Highlight: Transparent look into the reality of sportfishing. Highlighting the captain's relentless work ethic by running 25 miles out to find clean water, and the educational mentorship provided to apprentice anglers on board. #MathisOceanAdventures #RealFishing #OffshoreCostaRica #SailfishBattle #Persistence #HerraduraBeach #PuraVida

2 Sailfish and Prime Snappers When a fellow boat captain and his wife stepped aboard the Mathis, their goal was clear: land a bucket-list billfish. In offshore fishing, plans often adapt to the conditions—and when you have an expert crew at the helm, those adjustments turn into pure success. Before mid-day on our 8-hour run, the ocean rewarded our precise positioning with two massive, gorgeous Sailfish successfully fought and safely released right by the gunwale, along with three prime Red Snappers to ensure an incredible dinner back on shore. However, true seamanship isn't just about catching fish; it’s about taking care of the people on board. When our assistant fell ill mid-day alongside a sudden rise in heavy winds, we didn't hesitate. We adjusted our schedule, prioritized health and comfort, and navigated back at a smooth, careful pace. We returned to port with full hieleras, a healthy crew, and the immense satisfaction of a mission accomplished. Daily Log: Service: Full-Day Offshore / Inshore Combo Charter (Adjusted Return) Target Guests: Returning Commercial/Charter Captain & Spouse Total Catch: 2 Sailfish (Safely released at the gunwale), 3 Red Snappers (Pargos Rojos). Key Highlight: Reaching target catch objectives before mid-day (2 Sailfish & 3 Red Snappers), followed by a cautious and safe navigation back to port to prioritize crew health amid sudden windy conditions. #Mathisfishinglegends #Sailfish #RedSnapper #CostaRicaFishing #HerraduraBeach #Seamanship #PuraVida

Unlocking Dream Roosterfish There is no higher honor in the charter business than having fellow professional captains step aboard to fulfill their own bucket-list dreams. We set out at first light with two accomplished captains who, despite their years on the water, had never landed a Roosterfish. With the outgoing tide running out of time, every minute was critical. Captain Jorge executed a brilliant tactical game plan: we ran straight to our furthest southern marks first, creating a rolling strategy to fish our way back toward the coast. The ocean rewarded our calculated positioning almost instantly! The first strike was pure adrenaline—a massive, aggressive Roosterfish attacked so fiercely it rushed two of our lines simultaneously, making us think we had a double-hookup! Shortly after, a second trophy Roosterfish of equal size hit the deck. To round out a perfect session, we shifted to some productive bottom spots for fresh table fish before heading back to port with big smiles and ultimate respect among captains. Daily Log: Service: Early Morning Inshore & Bottom Combo Charter Target Guests: Professional Captains (First-time Roosterfish Hunters) Strategy: Tactical long-range run south, fishing back toward port to maximize tide windows. Total Catch: 2 Trophy Roosterfish (Catch & Release, high-aggression strikes), plus mixed bottom species. Key Highlight: Captain Jorge successfully guiding fellow commercial/charter captains to their bucket-list Roosterfish trophies using high-level tidal positioning. #Roosterfish #CostaRicaSportfishing #CaptainsChoice #HerraduraBeach #CatchAndRelease
