Giornata Intera Pesca al Tonno RossoLa migliore esperienza delle mie vacanze in Sicilia! Abbiamo incontrato Andrea e Luca al molo e da lì abbiamo iniziato il nostro tour per la pesca al Bluefin tuna. Prima siamo usciti in mare per pescare i pesci esca, e già questo è stato incredibilmente divertente. Successivamente ci siamo spinti a circa 11 miglia al largo, in mare aperto, circondati da nient'altro che acqua. Lì abbiamo preparato il setup per i tonni, e poco dopo è arrivato il momento: ho combattuto con un Alletterato e sono riuscito a portarlo a bordo. Poco dopo abbiamo avuto un'altra abboccata, questa volta un tonno di oltre 250 kg. Dopo un combattimento intenso di 45 minuti, purtroppo abbiamo dovuto lasciarlo andare. Nonostante ciò, l'esperienza è stata assolutamente straordinaria. Lo scenario era semplicemente indescrivibile: il sole tramontava lentamente, i delfini saltavano accanto alla barca, un momento davvero magico. Per concludere, siamo andati in una baia a pescare barracuda, accompagnati da un Tramonto da sogno. Andrea e Luca sono persone incredibilmente cordiali. Luca ci ha preparato in alto mare un delizioso pasto con ingredienti freschi e locali, e Andrea era totalmente appassionato durante la pesca. Ci ha dato consigli preziosi, ha partecipato con entusiasmo ad ogni combattimento e ci ha raccontato molto sulla regione e sulla pesca. Chi è alla ricerca di un'esperienza autentica, speciale e indimenticabile in Sicilia, con Andrea è nel posto giusto. Un consiglio assolutamente da non perdere!

Giornata Intera Pesca al Tonno RossoHo trascorso di recente due giorni incredibili a pescare da Marzamemi, nel sud-est della Sicilia, con il Capitano Andreas e il marinaio Luca di Sicily Fishing, alla ricerca di Bluefin tuna di taglia XL, ed è stata un'esperienza che non dimenticheremo mai. Dal momento in cui siamo saliti a bordo, la passione di Andreas per la pesca e per la Sicilia era evidente. La sua conoscenza delle acque locali, della pesca e della regione stessa ha arricchito enormemente l'uscita. Era sempre felice di condividere la sua esperienza e di insegnarci diverse tecniche, rendendo il tutto non solo un'avventura di pesca di successo, ma anche una fantastica esperienza formativa. La pesca è stata straordinaria e fisicamente impegnativa. Il primo giorno, abbiamo catturato e rilasciato un Bluefin tuna stimato tra i 250 e i 300 kg con oltre 2 ore di combattimento, e il secondo giorno abbiamo catturato e rilasciato con successo un altro magnifico esemplare di circa 100 kg. La potenza e le dimensioni di questi pesci erano davvero indimenticabili. Entrambi i pesci sono stati rilasciati con successo. Andrea utilizza mulinelli Shimano di alta gamma e canne da game realizzate su blank siciliani! Ciò che distingue davvero Sicily Fishing sono le persone. Andreas e Luca hanno lavorato instancabilmente per offrirmi la migliore esperienza possibile, mantenendo un'atmosfera rilassata, piacevole e piena di risate. La loro professionalità, il loro entusiasmo e il genuino amore per ciò che fanno hanno reso ogni momento sull'acqua indimenticabile. Pescare in un nuovo paese è sempre emozionante, ma Sicily Fishing ha offerto un'esperienza che ha superato ogni aspettativa. Non solo ho avuto un successo incredibile sull'acqua, ma abbiamo anche imparato nuove tecniche, acquisito una maggiore consapevolezza della cultura della pesca siciliana e creato ricordi che dureranno tutta la vita. Se stai valutando un charter di pesca in Sicilia, non cercare oltre Sicily Fishing. Andreas e Luca offrono un'esperienza di livello mondiale, e non posso raccomandarli abbastanza. Giornata Intera Pesca al Tonno RossoCi siamo incontrati come concordato nel porto di Marzamemi alle 6 del mattino, a circa 50 minuti da Siracusa, per un'uscita di pesca in altura con la traina. Andrea aveva già anticipato che sarebbe stato difficile catturare un bluefin tuna in questo periodo dell'anno, ma che era comunque possibile, così come altre specie di tonno e il pesce spada. C'è anche una buona possibilità di catturare lampughe, ricciole e altri predatori durante la traina con il light game. Dopo circa 3 ore con l'attrezzatura pesante e nessuna attività da parte dei grandi tonni, siamo passati al light game tackle e abbiamo subito catturato delle bellissime lampughe fino a circa 80 cm, pesci pilota, ricciole e, infine, un piccolo bluefin tuna a testa. Se non l'avete mai fatto prima, dovete assolutamente provarlo. Nonostante le dimensioni ridotte, questi pesci combattono come un luccio grosso in estate - è davvero incredibile. Non solo io, ma anche la mia compagna è stata guidata nella pesca da Andrea e dal suo collega Luca e, anche se non ha nulla a che fare con la pesca, ci siamo divertiti molto. Snack, frutta, panini e ogni tipo di bevanda fresca erano a disposizione. Il modo in cui Andrea gestisce i pesci è molto rispettoso, cosa che ho apprezzato davvero. In definitiva, è stata un'esperienza davvero meravigliosa che consiglierei caldamente a tutti.

An amazing standard trip!

This late September was a successful one. Last fishing sessions went very good. Fish are there in good numbers and this promises a great Autumn-Winter season for fishing in Sicily.
One of the techniques we particularly like in these waters, productive when practised in the right period and with correct bait, is live bait trolling. This technique could also be considered a Deep sea fishing in Sicily, as is usually take place at -40m or deeper.
Target fish are usually Dentex, Amberjack and many species of grouper. Bluefin tuna or other big species can occasionally bite fishing with live bait trolling but in that case, you need to be very good!
Fishing in October
October and November are great months to find the right live bait, which is also a fun activity to do early in the morning if you don't mind about waking up early during your holiday in Sicily. It is anyway possible to skip this part and jump on the boat when the live baits are already in the live tank, a couple of hours sleeping later! :-D
On the last fishing sessions, James first, Mandy and Sebastian after went fishing in Syracuse area with us this week. Apart from the good fishing visible on the pictures, we had really great moments aboard. Good weather and some interesting activities, after fishing, filled those perfect days.
Extra activities on a fishing trip
In many places of Sicily, some activities are possible after the deep sea fishing session or during a 3-day fishing trip.
One of them is jumping in the water to catch an octopus with barehand. Barehanded Octopus fishing. This is a family knowledge, a bunch of skills about spotting and catching octopus in their shelters, passed from my father, that I try to teach to my guests. Barehanded octopus fishing takes place from 1m to 4m of waters, in the daylight. Snorkelling gear and wetsuits are always available. It is always possible to catch and release them.
Another thing we add to our trips, when possible and in specific places, is preparing abord a special lunch, maybe with the caught fish. This is to fill up a complete experience that will drive you directly into the Mediterranean fishing and marine lifestyle.
In definitive, thanks to our experienced team, made of different skills, we can proudly say that for this specific season, and target fish, we can deliver, the best fishing in Sicily as an experience to remember.

Morning session report - A big Jack and

On our fishing expedition, sessions with fish chasing the baits and strikes are regular situations, especially during sunrise and sunset. This day didn't was an exception.
Once on the spot, after a short offroad drive, the crew started to observe and evaluate the best strategy to approach the place. The scenario was a promise for a good fishing day. The spot, in this case, consists of a shallow rocky shore with a flat, going in front of us several meters. This less usual environment creates some small waves and a breaking point right where the fight takes place. Extra difficulty. The selection of baits is a consequence, and topwater or subsurface fishing is the best way in a case like this, and for a well-known spot to our team.
In this case, we start fishing from different points and all anglers can comfortably cast simultaneously thanks to the big spaces available along the shore. After a couple of casts on a section of the spot, abundantly after the sunrise, is Carlo to wake up everybody, calling the "chasing fish" after that a big shape, followed him until the waves breaking point.
This is the classic situation when the next cast may result decisive to let the fish strike.
Under the guides close attention and with some useful real-time tips, after a few seconds and a dramatic explosion on the surface, Carlo is screaming "fiiish ooonnn"! Some energetic jerking to set the hook on the fish mouth and the rod is still bent to confirm the fish is hooked. No doubt about the opponent, it was a Horse Eye Trevally, unrivaled king of the inshore shallow waters.
A thrilling and from the not obvious result fighting starts. The fish runs laterally, in both directions trying to take the line on the rocks coming out from the shallow. Here is the game essence, no mistakes allowed. No space for indecisions. The equipment also plays an important role. The reel's drag, for example, have to be set in accordance with the possible situations, before the session start. This is due to contrast correctly the fish during its "runs".
Carlo, well prepaid and again with the support of the guiding team, with the right equipment manage to control almost all the fish moves. About 15min are sufficient to land the fish into a small pool to finally slow down the heart rate and honour the amazing fish with some good pictures.
A "Horse Eye trevally", worthy brother of the more famous Giant Trevally (or GT as he is called between the tropical anglers), is now in front of our happy faces, with all his majesty. A very good shot, a Caranx of over 100cm, that will later result the biggest fish of the day.
After the congratulations with Carlo, despite the fatigue visible in his face, the satisfaction was palpable in his eyes. Satisfaction to have caught one of the best fish of these waters.
Is was still early, then filled with adrenalin, the group follow fishing with not less interesting results. Many strikes and other species of jack of good size, arrived under our feet. Caranx are not the only species appreciating out baits; Groupers and big needlefish filled up the day.
Being this enough for the morning session, at around 10 am was the moment of a big breakfast to charge the battery, enjoy and talk about the biggest reward of the day: a beautiful fish caught on shallow water over a technique spot. After breakfast, we were already looking forward to the afternoon session.

Bluefin Tuna "old school" emotions

Bluefin Tuna passes every year along the coasts of Italy. Twice. Big fish coming from the Atlantic Ocean to complete their reproduction cycle, starts to run all along the Mediterranean to spawn from Spring to fall.
Some schools instead are resident in the Mediterranean Sea, living here year-round. This large presence of the species, set with no doubts, Italy as one of the locations with the best fishing for Bluefin Tuna in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Bluefin Tuna is considered a superb animal, superbly adapted for extreme swimming, extreme lasting, extreme diving, travelling, eating, growing compared to other fish.
The video (here is just the short 30 sec. version) is a tribute to this great fighter, taking the battle to the ultimate level! Unbelievable spooling, exhausting oppositions, long lasting fightings, a technical approach and preparation as shown in this short movie are always part of the bluefin tuna game fishing.
The footage highlights the emotions coming out from the epic fight, for the angler and the other people aboard. When the tuna arrives finally under the boat, showing his majesty, is always a general “WOOOWW”. Is also possible to see how the Crew guidance, concurrently helps the fisherman to correctly behave in order to take the fish under the boat, which is not an easy job! Apart from being a fishing trip or a fishing charter in Italy, we love to transmit knowledge about how to catch a bluefin tuna.
Technique and equipment
The technique is Drifting for Tuna, with both live and dead bait. The preparation is an important part of the fishing session, looking for live bait and preparing the dead ones to correctly drop on the current. Correct distances, bait presentation, equipment dimension, right spots and timing are just some of the local knowledge that plays a big role to reach the strikes.
In this specific case, fighting was done "Old school" on a fishing chair and using Shimano Tiagra 80lb reel and rod. A setup that can be considered “heavy” and old. While now we fish only with stand up setup, very light compared to the one in the video to give much more fun and less pressure on the anglers moves, employing the Shimano Talica 50lb and 25lb with the deep spool, together with lightweight harness gimbal (belt) like the black magic.
It worth also to mention that Bluefin tuna is also a historical fishery in the Mediterranean sea.
