I have been fishing my whole life. Started fishing with family on inland lakes in northern Indiana. This led to fishing Lake Michigan with my grandfather in my early teens. Then we moved the boat to Bass Haven Marina on Lake Erie. Spent the next decade casting for Walleye and eventually, taking the trolling skills learned from Lake Michigan and applied them to Lake Erie as the water cleaned up. I spent off the water time raising a family, farming, in management, maintenance, and eventually being self-employed. My family operates C & K Greenhouses in the spring, on our farm. This allows me the opportunity to charter full-time during the summer. Reel King Charters LLC. is a family business founded in 2018 by brothers Capt Doug and Capt Craig Rothgeb. I am excited to fulfill a childhood dream of being a professional fisherman that can share a lifetime of knowledge with both the new and experienced anglers on the boat.

From start to finish, the experience was nothing short of amazing. Captain Craig is a true professional who goes above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great time. I brought my fiancé, Aimee, and my 6-year-old son along, and Captain Craig was phenomenal with us. He patiently walked us through everything we needed to know and made us feel so comfortable on the water. The highlight of the trip was when he helped my son reel in an absolute monster of a fish—the look on my boy’s face was priceless, and it’s a memory we will cherish forever. On top of that, we caught so many fish throughout the day! If you are looking for a top-tier fishing charter that is family-friendly, knowledgeable, and guarantees a fantastic time, look no further than Captain Craig and Real King Charters. Highly, highly recommend!

Craig did all he could ro be helpful and make them as comfortable as possible. We wanted Walleye and he took us right to where they were. We caught a 25 inch Walleye and others. Also several very large catfish that we did not keep. Our boat was awesome and fully equipped with all the bells and whistles. Book your next charter with Craig on the Reel King . You will be glad you did .

He was super friendly and chatted with us the whole time but on top of that he taught us how to get the lines ready and into the water. It was like being part of his crew which my boys loved. We didnt catch as many fish as i hoped but we still got several in the boat and a few even got away!! Would highly recommend him!!!

He was friendly, knowledgeable, and worked hard to put us on the fish. We caught plenty of walleye and limited out in no time! The boat was great, the trip was well organized, and the experience was one we’ll remember for a long time. I highly recommend Captain Craig to anyone looking for a successful and enjoyable fishing trip on Lake Erie. We will definitely be back! 🎣🐟

Doug was an amazing guide who really made sure he had a great experience. We caught a lot of fish and had an amazing experience his father and son. Hard to hold all of them!!!

Dumped the boat in and headed northwest about 6 miles and setup gear. Trolling around 2 mph with TruTrip Divers and Spoons is what they wanted. Walleye started hitting one after the other and before we realized it the box was full of nice walleye!! Way to go!!!

Kurt’s First Walleye of Many

Rod and his son Kurt joined me for a walleye adventure. Kurt caught his first walleye and continued to catch many more!! We fished just East of tge Cedar Point dump area. Trolling willow blade troll harnesses and wormburners. Targeted 30 to 34 feet today.

Walleye fishing is still going strong! Fishing East of Kelley Island to Vermillion dump. Fish are scattered and key is to find an active pond and stay with them. Perch are fired up early this year! Most caught south of Green Island to Rattlesnake Island.
