    My favorite chartered fishing trip

Without a doubt, this was my favorite chartered trip. Lamont was an awesome captain. Super kind, patient, a hard worker, a good communicator, but most of all he is very knowledgeable and exceptionally good at what he does for a living. The boat caught its limit and everyone had an awesome day on the water. It was so enjoyable! Next time I am back in La Push, another trip with him will be a priority. Thank you so much for a great day!

    (5 Hour Trip – Rockfish)

    Great trip and captain

Captain Lyle was awesome, on time, went through all safety precautions on the boat with us before we left dock and was very personable, his boat and fishing gear were excellent and he was very clear in his instructions on how to fish. As for fishing it was excellent, we limited on rockfish within a few hours and Captain Lyle also sent us home with a bonus limit of crab. Overall great experience and Captain, highly recommend a trip if your in the newport area!

    Great Captain

We had a great time! We laughed, joked around with Captain Lyle, and limited out on Rockfish and crab! Highly recommended and hope to be back in Newport to book another trip in the future! t

    Another great trip

We had to come back for more action. Lamont put us on fish the whole time. We had another excellent day in LaPush fishing with KYS Outdoor Adventures.

Black Rockfish fishing is all about steady action and great table fare. These hardy Groundfish school around rocks, reefs, and kelp, and hit with confidence. Anglers love them because they fight hard for their size, bite year-round in many areas, and make a delicious catch to bring home when rules allow.

You can target Black Rockfish with bottom fishing, which means dropping bait or lures near the seafloor. Jigs work very well; a jig is a weighted lure you lift and drop to trigger strikes. Soft plastics, metal jigs, and bait like squid or anchovies all produce. Spinning and conventional tackle both work. Use abrasion-resistant leader because the fish live close to rough structure.

Expect fast bites and doubles when the school is thick. This is a fun, hands-on trip for first-timers, families, and anyone who enjoys active rod work. Dress in layers and wear non-slip shoes. Bring polarized sunglasses to cut glare and a small cooler for fillets if cleaning is offered. Captains often provide tackle, but check what is included and bring seasickness tablets if you are prone to motion sickness.

Before you go, check local rules. Make sure you have the right fishing license or permit, and review season dates, areas, and any harvest or gear limits for Rockfish. Regulations can change, so confirm the latest guidance with local authorities before your Black Rockfish fishing trip.
