Halibut fishing in Canada draws anglers to cold, rich Pacific and Atlantic waters. Pacific Halibut off British Columbia and Atlantic Halibut in Eastern Canada grow large and fight hard. They are powerful Flatfish and top table fare, which makes this a classic Canadian adventure.
Most captains target Halibut by bottom fishing and jigging. You will drop heavy jigs or bait, such as herring or salmon heads, near rocky structure and ledges. Crews often drift to cover ground, then anchor when fish stack up. Deep sea fishing may be needed when Halibut hold on deep offshore banks.
Charter trips usually run half day to full day with an early start. The boat supplies rods, reels, tackle, and safety gear. Dress in warm layers and waterproof boots, as weather can change fast. Bring snacks, sun protection, and motion sickness medicine if needed. Expect a steady, heavy fight and careful work at the rail. Many crews will help with icing and filleting back at the dock.
Top Canadian areas include the west coast of Vancouver Island, HAIDA GWAII, and the Prince Rupert region in British Columbia. On the Atlantic side, look to Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Channels, banks, and current edges near these coasts are classic Halibut grounds.

We had a great time with Dean, he was very knowledgeable and kind. we caught 3 Chinooks, 1 Coho and one huge Halibut on our trip even tought it was a slow day Dean managed to get bites going! We would highly recommend fishing with captain Dean!

Great time
Overall the trip was good. We were in the water hoping to get some halibut, but unfortunately we didn't. However we got lingcods. The captain was cool and complimented us with some halibut from his resource.

Beautiful day fishing!
Captain Pat was great, knew exactly where the fish would be. Caught nice sized Coho Salmon, Spring Salmon, and Mackerel. He also showed us how to fish for some Halibut. Learned many fishing techniques. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great day, a good catch, and filleted our fish and packed them in dry ice to take home. Wonderful day. I highly recommend Pat!
