Cabo Fishing Report – 5 Marlin Released and 1 Dorado
Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours
60 Foot Bertram – Cabo Fishing Report
December 14, 2023
Joey and his group of nine from the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area headed offshore aboard the 60' Blue Sea Bertram for a ten-hour Cabo fishing charter. The extended day produced excellent billfish action with five marlin and one dorado, with all five marlin successfully released back into the Pacific.
Having ten hours available gave the crew time to search offshore, work productive water and continue fishing after each successful encounter. Instead of one marlin defining the day, Blue Sea kept working and ultimately produced five separate billfish encounters.

Five Marlin Highlight This Cabo Charter Report
Blue Sea left F Dock at IGY Marina early in the morning with a full ten-hour window ahead.
The crew incorporated a dredge into the offshore trolling presentation, creating the appearance of a concentrated group of baitfish moving behind the boat. This larger presentation can help attract marlin toward the trolling spread.
The search eventually produced the first marlin.
The captain maneuvered the 60' Bertram while the deck crew managed the equipment and helped the angler through the fight. Once the encounter was completed, the marlin was successfully released back into the Pacific.
The crew reset the presentation and returned to fishing.
A second marlin appeared, producing another fight and another successful release.
Blue Sea continued working the offshore water.
A third marlin followed, then a fourth and eventually a fifth.
Each encounter created a different challenge. Marlin can remain deep during one fight and move toward the surface during another. They can suddenly change direction, requiring the captain to reposition the boat while the crew keeps the fishing area organized.
By the end of the billfish action, five marlin had been caught and all five had been successfully released.
Dorado Adds Variety to the Offshore Fishing Report
The five marlin were clearly the headline, but Blue Sea also produced one dorado.
Dorado provide a completely different offshore experience. Their aggressive strikes, speed, brilliant colors and energetic fights make them one of the most recognizable game fish encountered around Cabo San Lucas.
The day's catch included:
5 marlin successfully released
1 dorado caught
6 total game-fish encounters
The dorado gave Joey's group another classic offshore species during an already productive day.
For nine guests sharing the charter, having both marlin and dorado action created additional variety and another memorable part of the experience.
Ten Hours Creates More Cabo Fishing Opportunities
The ten-hour charter played an important role in the final result.
Every marlin encounter takes time. The captain must maneuver the boat while the angler works through the fight and the deck crew manages the equipment. After the release, the trolling presentation has to be reorganized and reset before the search begins again.
Repeating that process five times requires a substantial fishing window.
Because Joey's group booked an extended charter, Blue Sea could continue searching after each successful release rather than immediately considering the return to Cabo San Lucas.
The first marlin did not end the search.
Neither did the second, third or fourth.
The crew continued working, and the additional time eventually helped produce five separate marlin encounters.
Baton Rouge Guests Featured in This Cabo Charter Report
The 60' Blue Sea Bertram provided a spacious platform for nine guests visiting from the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area.
Throughout the charter, the rhythm aboard Blue Sea became familiar: search productive water, work the trolling presentation, respond when a marlin appears, fight the fish, complete the release, reset the equipment and begin searching again.
Five times, that process ended with a marlin successfully returned to the Pacific.
For the group, each new encounter created another period of excitement as Blue Sea was repositioned and the crew prepared for another fight.
The extended charter allowed everyone aboard to experience a complete offshore day rather than a quick run outside the marina.
Five Successful Releases Complete the Fishing Report
By the end of the ten-hour charter, Joey's group had experienced five successful marlin releases and one dorado.
