July 24, 2023 – Cabo Fishing Report – 1 Marlin Released – 60' Bertram Blue Sea – Captain Alex – 8 Hours – 1 Fish
Shane's July 24 charter began with an objective rather than a species count.
This was his third Cabo fishing trip. His previous experience had produced a few smaller tuna, but this time he wanted Captain Alex and the crew to concentrate on finding a larger gamefish.
Six guests boarded the 60' Bertram Blue Sea for an eight-hour day. The yacht departed at 6:15 AM and returned at 2:15 PM.
The strategy eventually produced the encounter Shane was looking for: one marlin, successfully released.

A Specific Goal Shapes This Cabo Charter Fishing Strategy
Fishing trips do not always begin with the same objective.
Some groups want steady action and are happy targeting whatever species provides the greatest opportunity. Others arrive hoping for a particular experience.
Shane fell into the second category.
Having fished Cabo previously, he already understood that catching fish and finding a larger gamefish are not necessarily the same objective.
This time, he wanted to devote the charter to pursuing something substantial.
Eight Hours Expand This Cabo Yacht Fishing Search
Choosing an eight-hour charter gave Captain Alex an important advantage: time.
A longer trip does not guarantee a larger fish, but it expands the number of decisions available to the captain.
The boat can potentially travel farther when conditions justify it, spend additional time searching productive water or remain in an area longer when signs suggest a quality fish may be nearby.
Every offshore run still requires enough time for the return to Cabo San Lucas.
With Blue Sea scheduled from 6:15 AM until 2:15 PM, Captain Alex had considerably more flexibility than would have been available during a shorter morning charter.
One Marlin Changes This Cabo Fishing Yacht Report
Eventually, the search produced the moment the group had been waiting for.
A marlin entered the fishing program.
For an angler specifically interested in a larger gamefish, there are few Cabo encounters more appropriate. Marlin combine size, power, speed and dramatic surface behavior.
The fish became the defining event of Shane's charter.
After the fight, it was successfully released.
Release Completes This Cabo Yacht Charter Experience
Blue Sky Cabo practices marlin release.
That policy meant the group's experience did not end with bringing the fish back to the marina. After the encounter, the marlin was returned to the ocean.
The historical record therefore shows both sides clearly:
One marlin caught.
One marlin released.
For long-term fishing reports, release status is important because it provides a more accurate account of what actually occurred during the charter.
Quality Matters More Than Volume in This Cabo Fishing Charter
A report showing one fish could easily be misunderstood without context.
The context is what makes Shane's charter useful.
The objective was not simply to maximize the number of smaller fish caught during eight hours. Shane had already experienced that style of fishing on a previous Cabo trip.
This time he wanted to pursue a larger fish.
Captain Alex and the crew therefore had a different assignment.
The result should be evaluated against that goal.
One quality marlin encounter and a successful release represented the type of experience Shane had asked the crew to pursue.
Six Guests Spend the Day Aboard This Cabo Yacht Fishing
Six guests shared the full eight-hour charter aboard Blue Sea.
The 60' Bertram provided the space for the group to remain together during a longer offshore day.
Lunch was included, an especially useful service on an eight-hour trip extending through the middle of the day.
Fishing licenses were also included.
The group could concentrate on the fishing experience while Captain Alex focused on the offshore search.

Shane's July 24 trip demonstrates why raw catch totals do not always describe the quality of a fishing charter.
The group deliberately chose a longer day and asked the crew to concentrate on finding a bigger fish.
Captain Alex had eight hours aboard the 60' Bertram Blue Sea to pursue that objective.
The charter produced one fish—but it was the kind of fish Shane had traveled to Cabo hoping to encounter.
