Er zwemt een vis met jouw naam erop in Port Douglas en Port Douglas Sportfishing helpt je hem te vangen!

Deze wateren staan bekend om grote Forelbaars Nannygai, Spangled Emperor, Straatveger (Sweetlip Emperor), Batjauwvis, Giant Horsmakreel, Barramundi, Queenfish, Gouden Makreel, Coral Trout, Indische Koningsmakreel, Tonggoltonijn en meer – met een beetje geluk laten ze je molen gillen. Op de dag van je trip ga je waarschijnlijk trollen en bodemvissen met licht materiaal. Schipper Gavin biedt ook oppervlaktevissen aan op grote GT's, vraag gerust naar deze optie zodat dit aan je avontuur kan worden toegevoegd

Port Douglas Sportfishing verwelkomt kinderen aan boord, dus het hele gezin kan komen en een dagje loskoppelen! Kinderen moeten zwemvesten dragen, dus vraag na of de juiste maat aan boord beschikbaar is. Snacks zijn ook een goed idee zodat niemand chagrijnig wordt met een lege maag!

Je avontuur begint aan boord van een 18' Eagle Ray center console die plaats biedt aan maximaal 5 passagiers. Het schip is uitgerust met alle benodigdheden waar geen vismachine zonder kan. Schipper Gavin zorgt voor hengels en molens, samen met kunstaas. Levend aas is beschikbaar, maar vraag er zeker naar zodat je weet of je het zelf moet vangen.

Je moet voor de trip een lokale visvergunning kopen. Deze informatie is meestal online beschikbaar, of je kunt het aan de schipper vragen. Sommige soorten kunnen beschermd zijn of een tag vereisen om ze te mogen houden, dus zorg dat je weet wat je kunt verwachten. Een paar dingen om mee te nemen zijn zonnebrandcrème (geen spray), en een zonnebril. Drankjes zijn inbegrepen, gratis. Alcohol is toegestaan in matige hoeveelheden, vermijd alleen sterke drank en glazen flessen.

Perfect morning of fishing with a friendly and knowleable captain

Half Day Trip – Inshore Reef (AM) op October 31, 2025 • 2 volwassenen • 2 kinderen

We had an awesome fishing trip with Captain Gavin out at the inshore reef off Port Douglas. The conditions were perfect, and Gavin made the whole experience fun, easy, and productive. We caught a great range of reef fish throughout the morning, with plenty of action to keep everyone excited.
The highlight was bringing home two beautiful coral trout, which made for an absolutely delicious lunch! Gavin’s local knowledge and professionalism really made the day. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just out for some fun on the water, I’d highly recommend a trip with Captain Gavin — a top-notch fishing charter experience in Port Douglas!

Awesome and amazing and awesome

Half Day Trip – Estuary (PM) op June 7, 2025 • 3 volwassenen

The title is a direct quote from my 15 year old daughter. Gavin was an amazing captain. 

First is methodical approach to fishing is really cool. He explained how to get right bait, the right tide, and the spot. He has a very “be the fish” approach. 

One of my 15 year old twins is very into both fishing and engineering. While we waited for our fish to bite, Gavin explained how all of the equipment worked. It was incredible. My other 15 year old daughter I relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful day in the estuary.  Gavin also explained how the estuary system worked and about the wildlife there as well as in the reef. Gavin is definitely a “girl dad”. 

It was the low season and the water was cooler so we only caught one fish but it was a half meter long so it made for a plentiful and delicious dinner. 

Everyone will enjoy fishing with Gavin but if you have daughters this is your captain!

Could not recommend Gavin highly enough! Went above and beyond to make our day fantastic and catch plenty of big fish! Even when we started getting some stolen by sharks he knew where to go to start getting them in the boat again. Will definitely be back to go out with Gavin again.

Cracking end to our week in Port!!

Full day -topwater fishing op November 16, 2025 • 2 volwassenen

You’re learning off and fishing with one of FNQ’s gurus if you head out with Gav. Bloke was the best! 

My Mrs had never held a rod let along cast a lure into the mangroves. right in the bite window he called she landed a huge jack, probably 5mtrs from where we saw a croc slide into the water! we also cleaned up out on the reef popping for G’s and deep dropping on a few of his wonky hole marks for big Nnanygai

my second time doing this charter and ill be back for years to come!!! cheers Gav great to meet ya!
