Crappy weather, still caught a variety of fish!

    3 uur4 volwassenen2 kinderen

I was a little nervous about the weather and our fish catching abilities so last minute I changed from 2 hours to 3. The captain approved this right away which was great. This trip was PERFECT for myself and husband as we are already relatively experienced at fishing. Our son is 9 and he was able to fish completely independently and caught his own fish, too. Our daughter is 5 and pretty much just hunkered down on the floor of the boat because it was COLD that day. She could've participated but I wouldn't recommend bringing children younger than 5-6 unless it is over 70 degrees out. The captain was as helpful as possible and put us on the fish despite crappy weather (cold, windy).

A great first experience for my granddaughter!

We met Captain Jesse at the appointed time and he was ready go. We rode out to the first spot and were catching fish right away. Third cast brought a keeper Redfish to the boat. Caught another in short order plus other species. The entire trip was similar. Captain Jesse will put you on fish and he will tell you some good stories about the area while doing so. He hustled on board to keep hooks baited, hang ups cleared and us happy. Redfish, Black Drum, Black Sea Bass, Speckled Trout, along with some “trash” fish made for a fine trip!

    Great Trip - Fun

    4 uur2 volwassenen

This was a fun experience with Captain Jesse. He took us where we requested and we caught a variety of fish. Hw pulled in a very pretty black sea bass and a decent flounder though a touch under size limit. That was OK with us because we like to catch and release anyway. The rock bottom was a new experience for me and he helped me learn how to work the bait over the rocks. We were surprised to find out that we knew some of the same people from Fernandina Beach. We would go back fishing with Jesse anytime.

Jesse done an awesome job. Showed up on time with both live shrimp and mullet. It was constant action. We must have caught 15 different species of fish…totaling around 25-30 total…even mangrove snapper and a snook. I would highly recommend booking with Jesse he knows how to get you on fish.

    Great Charter

    4 uur2 volwassenen

Wound up at Fernandia for my annual birthday trip. We typically charter a trip on each trip and were totally pleased. Captain Jesse putnus on fish immediately whereb I caight my first ever speckled trout, nice five pounder. while searching in shore for more of Captain Jesse's "secret" spots, we wound up catching a bunch of speckles and a few black drum, many keepers. A high light was the vast knowledge of the local history of the island and surrounding area Captain Jesse imparted. We will definitely give Captain Jesse a vall for our next charter in Fernandina. what a great day!

The cooler weather Mix of fish

jan. 21, 2025 • Fernandina Beach
The cooler weather is the best time of year to catch Speckled Seatrout. Redfish, sheepshead and blackdrum (puppy drum) are plentiful as well! You wont see as many charter Captains with alot of bookings because it is the slow season… however it is my Favorite time to go fishing with my family and friends as well as a few fishing charters and a handfull of regular Clients! I personally like to fish for Trout with an artificial lure and use the trolling motor to keep the boat moving and cast! Covering alot of ground and always introducing the lire to a fish that hasn’t seen it yet! I always feel like once you cast in the same spot a dozen time whatever is there youd have cuaght on the first few cast! If he’s there he’s gonna EAT IT!? (i call everthing oit there “he”?)

As the warmer weather moves in the bite has changed as well, where alot of fast moving fish are overtaking and dominating key spots along the rivers edge and the inlets! Typically bluefish, ladyfish, Spanish Mackerel, little nibblers and Sharks!!!

They are the only members of the family, Of the two species, one is native to the Atlantic, and the other to the Indo-Pacific Oceans.atlanticus is found on the western Atlantic coast from Virginia to Brazil, throughout the Caribbean and the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Tarpon are also found along the eastern Atlantic coast as well as the African coast, throughout Southeast Asia, Japan, Tahiti, and Australia. Both species are found in both marine and freshwater habitats, usually ascending rivers to access freshwater marshes. They are able to survive in brackish water. Due to their swim bladders, which they use primarily to breathe. They are also able to rise to the surface and take gulps of air, which gives them a short burst of energy. The habitats of tarpons vary greatly with their developmental stages, salt marshes, tidal pools, creeks, and rivers. Their habitats are characteristically warm, shallow, dark bodies of water with sandy mud bottoms. Tarpons commonly ascend rivers into fresh water. As they progress from the juvenile stage to adulthood

The Specked Trout Season

aug. 10, 2022 • Fernandina Beach
Speckled trout, is a common estuarine fish found in the southern United States along coasts of Gulf of Mexico and the coastal Atlantic Ocean from Maryland to Florida. While most of these fish are caught on shallow, grassy flats, spotted seatrout reside in virtually any inshore waters, from the surf of outside islands to far up coastal rivers, where they often come for shelter during cold weather. Contrary to its name, the spotted seatrout is not a member of the trout family (Salmonidae), but of the drum family (Sciaenidae). It is popular for recreational fishing. Adults reach 19-37 inches in length and 3-17 pounds in weight.

Sheepshead

aug. 10, 2022 • Fernandina Beach
The sheepshead, is a marine fish that grows to 30 in, but commonly reaches 10 to 20 in. It is deep and compressed in body shape, with five or six dark bars on the side of the body over a gray background. It has sharp dorsal spines. It has a hard mouth, with several rows of stubby teeth – the frontal ones closely resembling human teeth – which help crush the shells of prey.
