Christmas Walleye Day Two

An incredible mid-August charter and exactly the kind of Western Basin walleye fishing that keeps anglers smiling all the way back to the dock!

?? **Sunday, August 16th Fishing Report - Family, Fish, and Fun on Erie!** ?? Earlier this summer, Andy and his son Drew were scheduled to fish with me while traveling home from a baseball tournament in Cooperstown. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and a weather delay forced us to reschedule. Fast forward to mid-August, and Andy made the trip back, bringing along his brother Larry and nephew Joe for a great day on Lake Erie! ☀️? This crew may be seasoned anglers, with plenty of experience chasing salmon on Lake Michigan and targeting walleye and other species in Canada, but fishing Erie with offshore inline planer boards wasn't really part of their playbook. Today turned into a fun learning experience as we worked through the spread, covering the ins and outs of Offshore boards, Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. TrueTrip 50s, and Dipsy Divers. ?? We picked up right where we left off yesterday and headed back to the Roller Coasters, where a beautiful grade of fish was waiting for us. ?? ? **Today's top producers:** ✅ Berkley Fishing Flicker Minnow 11s, 70' back with 3 oz weights ✅ TrueTrip 50s, 50' back pulling crawler harnesses ✅ Dipsy Divers on a #3 setting, 60' back with crawler harnesses The rods stayed busy and the crew quickly got comfortable with some new techniques while stacking a very respectable cooler of Erie gold! ?? With a Squall Watch posted and a great catch already in the box, we decided to call it an early success and head for the dock. Safety first! ⛈️⚓ Now it's time for those fresh walleye fillets to make their way to Bayside Provisions for some of their outstanding fish coating and batter mix. Repeat customers George, Rachel, and Kayden jumped aboard BlackH2oDog Charters this morning at East Harbor State Park Marina, and we pointed the bow toward the soon-to-be-rising sun over Kelleys Island. ?☀️ Today's bite was more of a slow pick than a hot-and-heavy chew, but persistence paid off! ?? Early producers included: ✅ BADMO LURES Arrowhead Spinner Harnesses ✅ BADMO Worm Burner on a Dipsey Diver (3 setting, 60' back) ✅ Big Fish Tuff Tackle Co. 50s (50' back), all featuring pink-backed BADMO Worm Burner patterns On the Off Shore Tackle Company boards, the fish also liked: ? Berkley HitStick 9s (30/30 with 2oz & 3oz weights) ? Rapala Jointed J9s (60' back with 3oz) ? Trolling speed started at **2.2 mph**. As the wind laid down, the Dipseys and TruTrips got quiet, so we made a change. Adding **J7s** and **Jointed Flicker Shads**, then bumping the speed up to **2.4 mph**, was exactly what the walleyes wanted. That adjustment quickly put **9 more fish in the cooler!** ?????????
