17lb Chinook and a 28-Fish Morning on Fl

Tursammendrag

What a morning to be on the water. Captain Trevor took Jim and Tammy out on the 6 AM departure aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, and Discovery Passage delivered. Conditions were textbook summer. Clear blue sky, 22°C, and a light NW breeze at 8 km/h that never built into anything. The fog patches lifted early and we had 10 km of visibility all morning. Seas ran a metre or less — flat calm, the kind of water that makes a first trip feel effortless. We worked the green can on the building flood tide, trolling hoochies behind flashers with the downriggers set at 110 feet. The water was a warm 16.4°C and the fish were up and feeding. By the time we turned for the dock we'd released 25 and kept three — a healthy mix of Chinook and Coho. The fish of the day was a chrome-bright 17lb Chinook that fought like it meant it. This was Jim and Tammy's first time out, and the Montauk is the perfect boat for it — nimble, intimate, and built for two anglers who want to learn the ropes with a relaxed local guide. Captain Trevor walks you through every step, from setting the rigger to fighting the fish. Summer Chinook are here and the Coho are mixing in. Most fish run 12-16 lbs with a real shot at a trophy 30-pounder. Three departures daily at 6 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM, free parking at Tyee Plaza. Spots are filling fast for summer.
