    Fishing trip

Kongelaks Fisketur den July 23, 2025

We had an absolutely fantastic tour with Jason! It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. We caught an incredible amount of fish including chinook, coho, and lingcod and enjoyed every moment on the water. Jason’s boat is top-notch: comfortable, well-equipped, and perfect for a day of fishing. Jason himself was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about what he does. He made the entire trip smooth, fun, and truly memorable. Thank you so much, Jason! We can 100% recommend this experience to anyone whether you're an experienced angler or a first-timer, this is something you don’t want to miss.

    Half Day Chinook Salmon Charter

Kongelaks Fisketur den August 28, 2025

We left the dock on time and travelled about 30 min to the location where we fished. Jason had all the gear setup and ready to go. He was very patient and let us help with getting the lines in the water and showing us some shortcuts. He was very helpful in giving us tips to make our day a big success and let us have the full experience of popping the line from the down-rigger clip and setting the hook and bringing it in. His boat was very roomy for 4 people and in good operational condition. He had cold drinks on ice and the best touch was his tackle box full of penny candy which my two grandsons (and myself) thoroughly enjoyed. Jason was very friendly and loved to tell us of some of his most exciting fishing stories from his many years of working a a guide. Luckily the fish were bitting this day and we had 5 hours of none stop action as we were hooking a lot of undersized Springs and wild Coho, but we went home with 3 nice sized Springs and 3 Cohos. We would definitely book with Jason again and highly recommend Fishing Storie Charter if you are in Campbell River and want a fun trip.

Full Limit of Chinook and Coho Before Lu
Full Limit of Chinook and Coho Before Lu
September 12, 2026
Some days the ocean gives it all up. Saturday was one of them. Aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest, Captain Jason and a party of four limited out with eight Chinook and eight Coho by 10:30 in the morning. Conditions were flawless. Clear blue sky, 24°C, a light north wind at 3 knots, and glassy calm water across Discovery Passage. Seas held under a metre and visibility ran 10 km. With a new moon and an Excellent solunar rating, the fish were switched on from first light. We trolled Tomic 602 plugs on downriggers at 180 feet through the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. Water temp sat at a warm 16.4°C, keeping the fish active and feeding hard. The morning flood tide through Seymour Narrows pushed bait and the rods answered — chrome bright Chinook in the 12-16 lb range with the best fish going 16 lbs, and silver Coho right alongside. The day belonged to Shane, who treated his parents to a full day on the water. Returning guests from Alberta, they got the full Campbell River experience. Yvonne, Dan, and Mom each felt a rod load up, and the smiles in the photos tell the rest. Boy, did it pay off. The Boston Whaler Conquest comes with a heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and premium electronics — comfortable for groups up to four. Free parking at the south end of Tyee Plaza. September is Tyee season and the fish are running. Spots are filling fast. Book at **hidden content**

Chrome Bright Tyee Season Chinook Off Ca
Chrome Bright Tyee Season Chinook Off Ca
September 11, 2026
A fine day on Discovery Passage. Martyn and Helen joined Captain Bruce for a 4-hour introductory trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, and Martyn brought a chrome-bright Chinook to the net that made the whole outing. Conditions were kind. Overcast skies, 17°C, and a light north wind at just 2 knots — quiet, fishable, and comfortable. Seas ran a metre or less through the Passage, near flat with only a light ripple. The kind of calm midday that lets you work a spot right. We trolled hoochies on the downriggers at 80 to 120 feet off Cape Mudge, fishing the ebb as it ran toward the noon low. Water temp read 16.4°C — warm and the fish active. The timing was the story: the new moon had them feeding, the solunar forecast rated Excellent, and the major feeding window landed dead in the middle of our trip. When it lines up like that, you fish it hard. Martyn's rod buried and stayed down. The fish fought through the current before coming up silver — roughly 16-18 lbs, fresh from the salt with sea lice still on her. A trophy Tyee is always a chance this month, but a bright feeder like this is exactly what September delivers. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for two anglers who want an intimate day on the water with a veteran captain. Departs Coast Marina A Dock, free parking at Tyee Plaza. September is prime — no size limit, 2 fish per person, and a real shot at a trophy. Spots filling fast. Book at **hidden content**

Electric Midday Bite: 28lb Trophy Chinoo
Electric Midday Bite: 28lb Trophy Chinoo
September 9, 2026
Some days the water just gives it up. Tuesday's midday trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk was one of them. Captain Bruce ran Paul and Kim, visitors from White Rock, out to the red can on Discovery Passage for the 11 AM departure. Conditions were rewarding — 20°C under overcast skies, a light north wind at 6 knots, and seas of 1 metre or less. A comfortable, fishable day with 10 km visibility. The timing worked in our favour. Slack before flood at Seymour Narrows landed at 10:32 AM, right as we set lines, and the building flood tide turned the bite on. We trolled hoochies behind flashers with downriggers set 80 to 120 feet. Water temp read a warm 17.3°C, keeping the fish active. The action was electric. Three Chinook kept, four released — and the headline fish was a chrome bright 28-pounder, a true Tyee-season trophy. Most fish ran in the honest 12-16 lb range, exactly what September delivers here. Solunar forecast was rated Good, with the morning feeding window flowing right into our start. Best of all, this was Kim's first fishing trip ever — and it was a huge success. Chrome Chinook and an Evening Bite to Re
Chrome Chinook and an Evening Bite to Re
September 4, 2026
Tyee season is on, and Friday's evening run proved it. We ran the Boston Whaler Conquest out to the Hump on Discovery Passage and found chrome bright Chinook waiting for us. Conditions were soft and easy. Air temp held at 13°C with a steady moderate rain — the kind of grey September evening that keeps the fish comfortable and biting. Wind was light out of the north, barely a whisper, with seas 1 metre or less. Flat, calm, and easy fishing all session. Visibility stayed clean at 10 km right through to sunset at 7:59. What was biting: feeder Chinook, mostly 12 to 16 lbs, with the best going 15 lbs. We trolled hoochies behind flashers down 80 to 120 feet, and the Army Truck pattern earned its keep. Our best window lined up with the late slack before flood at 6:23 PM — the hour either side turned the bite on. The Last Quarter moon and a Good solunar rating had the fish active into the evening. Three in the box, eight released to keep the run strong. Glen, Helen and their crew came up from Vancouver for their first time out with us, and they got the full Campbell River experience — a full deck of fish and a story to take home. The Conquest kept everyone dry and warm with the heated cabin and private washroom, and Starlink WiFi meant the photos went out before we hit the dock. September is prime — Tyee season means no size limit and a real shot at a trophy 30-plus pounder. Spots are filling fast. Book your trip today at **hidden content**

Tyee Season Kicks Off with Chrome Chinoo
Tyee Season Kicks Off with Chrome Chinoo
September 1, 2026
September 1 marked the opening of Tyee season here in Campbell River, and it opened right. Captain Bruce ran the evening trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, with Jay along solo to celebrate his wife's birthday out on the water. The conditions were about as good as it gets. Air temp held at 18°C under scattered clouds, with a whisper of ENE wind at just 2 knots. Visibility stretched clean across the strait to the mountains, and the marine forecast delivered seas of a metre or less — near glass at times. We fished the flood tide building toward the 7:37 PM high, right into the golden sunset bite. We worked The Hump in Discovery Passage, trolling Tomic plugs in blue glow on the downriggers at 80 to 120 feet. The blue glow lit up as the light faded and the Chinook responded. Fish ran the classic Tyee-season 12-16 lb range, chrome bright and full of fight, with a chance at a trophy 30-plus pounder any cast this month. Best window lined up with the building flood in the late afternoon and evening. The Montauk is nimble and made for this kind of trip — perfect for one or two anglers who want a focused, intimate day targeting specific spots. Captain Bruce brings decades of local knowledge and a calm, patient hand, ideal for first-timers. September is prime time. The Tyee are in and the limit is now 2 per day with no size max. Ten Chinook to the Boat — Chrome 17-Poun
August 24, 2026
Ten fish to the boat and a chrome 17-pounder to headline the day. That was Sunday's afternoon introductory trip with Captain Bruce aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk. Conditions were as good as summer gets. 21°C under broken clouds, light ESE wind at just 3 knots, and 10km visibility. The water carried a light chop and read a warm 17.7°C, which kept the Chinook active and feeding high in the column. Nothing better for a first-timer. We worked the Hump in Discovery Passage, trolling Tomic plugs — the 602 pattern did the damage — at 80 to 120 feet on the downriggers. The afternoon flood tide pushed bait ahead of the 4:34 PM slack at Seymour Narrows, and the fish came with it. Best window was the couple hours either side of that tide change. Kevin made the drive over from Revelstoke for his first shot at Discovery Passage salmon, and he got the full experience — steady action, ten Chinook to the boat, most in the honest 12-16 lb range with that 17-pounder standing above the rest. One kept, the rest released strong under the summer slot limit. Good fishing and good conservation, hand in hand. The Montauk is nimble and made for this — perfect for one or two anglers who want to target specific spots without the crowd. Classic open-boat salmon fishing with a veteran guide who knows every eddy in the Passage. August and September fishing is prime, and spots are filling fast. August 21, 2026
Some mornings the water just gives. Friday delivered clear skies, 28°C, and a light east breeze at 5 knots — flat, fishable, and about as pleasant as a summer day gets on Discovery Passage. Seas held at a metre or less with just a light chop. You could see the treeline across the Passage clean and sharp. Captain Bruce ran the 6am departure aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, a nimble open boat built for getting into the right water and staying on the fish. Aboard was Renee, up from Vancouver for her very first day of salmon fishing. We worked Seymour Narrows and timed the passes to the tide. The flood pushes bait through the Narrows and the Chinook stack up to feed. We trolled hoochies — plastic squid lures — behind flashers on the downriggers, running 80 to 120 feet down. The morning bite lined right up with the solunar feeding window, and the rods delivered. Water was warm at 17.9°C, which had the fish active and holding higher in the column. We released plenty and kept a couple of clean feeders in the 12-16 lb range. There's always a shot at a trophy 30-pounder out here too, and those go back to keep the run strong. The look on Renee's face when the rod loaded up said it all. First Chinook, first day, bright fish to the net. Summer spots are filling fast. Some trips you remember. Kristy brought William and Alexander out on the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for one final salmon session before summer wrapped — visitors RVing Vancouver Island, first time on the water with us, all the way from Grand Forks. Conditions were about as good as August gives you. 18°C, overcast, and a whisper of wind — N at just 2 knots. Flat calm water, 1 metre or less, with 10 km of clean visibility. We ran the afternoon-into-evening window on purpose, timing our troll to the building flood and slack before flood at 6:36 PM. The major solunar feeding period fell 4:21 to 6:21 PM, right on top of the best tide. When the numbers stack like that, you go. We trolled 602 Tomic plugs down at 220 ft on the downriggers through the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. Water was warm at 18.2°C and the fish were up and feeding. Steady action all evening — mostly clean 12-16 lb feeders, plenty of them. The fish of the day was Alexander's: a chrome, heavy Chinook that measured 91cm, right around 24 lbs. Over the summer slot limit, so we got the photo and released her strong to keep the run healthy. A great fish for a first-timer. The Conquest keeps you comfortable — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, room for four. As Kristy put it: "We will be calling you when we come back." Some mornings just come together. Sunday brought Tyrone over from Calgary to celebrate his and his wife's birthday, and Captain Trevor put him on the fish aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk. His words after: "Biggest fish they ever caught." Conditions were fair for late July. Overcast skies, 17°C, and 10 km visibility. Wind sat ESE at 15 km/h, gusting a little, but Discovery Passage gave us the shelter we needed. The marine forecast called for southeast 5 to 15 knots and seas a metre or less, and out there it was light chop. Easy water for a first-timer to find his footing. We trolled hoochies behind flashers at 75 feet on the downriggers, working the run toward the Seymour Narrows slack at 9:51 AM. As the current eased, the bite firmed up. The fish came chrome bright and healthy, most in that solid 12 to 16 lb range, with the best one going 16 lbs. Water temp read a warm 18.3°C, and the fish were active and feeding. A humpback whale rubbed the rock wall in the bay while the rods bent. That's Campbell River in summer. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for an intimate one or two person trip. Captain Trevor is a laid-back local who's great with beginners, so if it's your first time out, you're in good hands. Three departures daily at 6am, 11am, and 4pm. There is no better welcome to Vancouver Island than a hot summer bite, and that is exactly what Paul and Breanne got on their first day on the water. Conditions were about as good as summer fishing gets. Air temp of 18°C under broken clouds, light easterly wind at 7 knots, and seas of one metre or less through Discovery Passage. Morning fog patches burned off early and left us with 10 km of clean visibility. The 27' Boston Whaler Conquest ran smooth and comfortable all morning. The Chinook were on the chew. We trolled hoochies and Tomic plugs on the downriggers between 80 and 130 feet, with the warm 17.2°C water keeping fish shallower than usual. The best window lined up with the slack before flood at 9:10 AM, when the tide change pushed bait into the channel and the rods started firing. The solunar forecast rated Good and the major feeding period fell right on that slack. By the end of the morning the boat had touched twenty-one fish, keeping our limit and releasing the rest. The headline catch was a chrome bright 16 lb Chinook that gave Paul a fight he will not forget. A Coho joined the box too. Most fish ran the honest 12 to 16 lb range typical for July. A family trip from Ottawa, a first-timer on the rod, and a trophy-class Chinook to show for it. That is a Campbell River memory. Boys Trip Scores Big — 19 Salmon on Half
July 5, 2026
What a morning. Captain Jason took a boys trip out on the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for a 5-hour half-day salmon charter, and Seymour Narrows lit up. Conditions were made for it. A comfortable 14°C, few clouds, and a light WNW breeze at 11 km/h with 10 km of clean visibility. Seas ran 1 metre or less — easy, workable water. Summer means long days here, and with the sun up at 5:18 AM we had all the light we needed. The fishing spoke for itself: nineteen fish to the boat, a mix of Chinook and Coho, with 4 kept and 15 released. The headline was a chrome-bright 16 lb Chinook — silver, fat, and fresh off the bait. Most Chinook ran the solid 12-16 lb range typical this season, with the water sitting at a warm 17.6°C and fish holding shallow. We trolled hoochies behind flashers on downriggers at 50 feet, working the window around the 9:40 AM slack tide when the current turned the bite on. Patrick's crew got the full Discovery Passage experience — the pull of the current, the scream of the drag, and a lot of thumbs up. We released a good number to keep the run strong, and taught the young anglers why that matters. The Boston Whaler Conquest keeps everyone comfortable with a heated cabin, private washroom, and Starlink WiFi — perfect for families and groups up to 4. A bluebird summer morning on the water. Captain Bruce ran the 6 AM introductory trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Maxime and Eliott, first-timers up from Montreal. Conditions were about as good as July gives us. Air temp climbed to 21°C under scattered clouds and clear blue sky, with a light east wind at just 5 knots. Seas ran a metre or less — light chop, nothing more. Visibility stretched past 10 km, mountains sharp across the strait. Easy, comfortable water for two guys learning the ropes. We fished the green can in Discovery Passage, trolling hoochies behind flashers with UV cuttlefish down 80 to 120 feet. Water was warm at 17.9°C, so the fish were active. We picked away at feeder Chinook in the 12-16 lb class with Coho mixed through, timing the morning around the 9:40 AM Seymour Narrows slack when the bite settled in. One bright hatchery fish in the box, seventeen released — steady action all morning. The last quarter moon had the solunar rating sitting good, and the fish cooperated. For two first-timers, it was the full Campbell River experience: chrome fish, wide grins, and hands that smelled of the sea. What a way to spend a birthday. Ron and Donna joined us aboard the Boston Whaler Conquest for a half-day morning charter, their first time on the water with us, and the salmon were in a generous mood. Conditions were postcard-perfect. Clear sky, 22°C, and a feather-light easterly breeze under 9 km/h. The Passage lay flat calm — seas one metre or less — with the Coast Mountains sharp on the horizon and visibility out to 10 km. You could not ask for a better first day on the salt. We worked the red and green cans on the early flood, trolling hoochies behind flashers with downriggers set deep at 220 feet. Water temp sat at a warm 16.8°C and the fish were active. Slack before flood at 6:11 AM lined up with the major solunar feeding window, and the rods started firing — lots of doubleheaders, two fish on at once, hands full and grins wide. By the end of the morning: 4 kept, 15 released. A healthy mix of Chinook and Coho, most Chinook in the 12-16 lb range, topped by a chrome-bright 16-pounder fresh from the salt. The bigger fish went back to keep the run strong — conservation matters to us, and Ron and Donna got the full experience of feeling that power on the line. Fifteen Chinook salmon released on a Monday afternoon half-day charter out of Campbell River, with a chrome bright 24-pounder headlining the day. The summer bite in Discovery Passage is delivering. Conditions were near-perfect: 22°C under overcast skies, light WNW winds at 8 km/h, seas under 1 metre, and 10 km visibility. The kind of afternoon where the water barely moves and every rod bump gets your heart going. We fished the red can area on the flood tide following a dead-low 0.0-foot tide at 12:56 PM, and the incoming current pushed fish right through our zone. The new moon had the solunar forecast rated Excellent, and the fish responded. Captain Jason ran the 27-foot Boston Whaler Conquest with downriggers set at 220 feet — deeper than typical summer depths, but the warm 16°C surface water pushed the Chinook down. Army Truck hoochies behind flashers were the ticket. The bite was steady through the afternoon, with most fish in the solid 12 to 16-pound range and that standout 24-pounder that had the whole boat cheering. Today's guests were the Spragg family — Jamie, Kathryn, Owen, and Alison — visiting from Australia on their first fishing charter. Owen, the youngest of the crew, landed the biggest fish of the day and declared it the best day of his life. The Boston Whaler Conquest's spacious deck, heated cabin, and private washroom made it a comfortable family outing, and Starlink WiFi meant the photos were heading back to Australia before the fish were even released. All 15 Chinook were released in excellent condition. Conservation is part of the story here, and watching those chrome bright fish swim back into Discovery Passage is its own reward. Captain Bruce had a strong morning out of Campbell River on June 6th, working the historic Cape Mudge grounds off the southern tip of Quadra Island aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk. Conditions were textbook early summer — 14°C air temperature, northwest winds at a gentle 6 km/h, overcast skies with no rain, and seas at 1 metre or less across Discovery Passage. The grey light that marine anglers know and love. Visibility held at 10 km throughout. The morning's low tide at 6:30 AM transitioned into the day's tidal rhythm, with the key slack before ebb arriving at 10:01 AM at Seymour Narrows. Captain Bruce positioned at Cape Mudge to intercept the tide change — and the fish responded. Six Chinook salmon were hooked, fought hard, and released in excellent condition. The Army truck hoochie pattern behind flashers did the work in the 80-150 foot depth range where summer feeders are holding. The hatchery coho — a chrome-bright, healthy fish confirmed on photo — was retained for the table. Tonight's destination: the Rip Tide Pub. Today's guests were first-timers from San Diego experiencing Discovery Passage for the very first time. Two people, one nimble Boston Whaler Montauk, and a morning that delivered everything Campbell River fishing promises. The Montauk's open-boat design is ideal for two-person trips — every cast feels personal, every fish is right in front of you. Water temperature measured 15.4°C — warm and active. The solunar forecast for the day rated Good, with a minor feeding window at moonrise running 10:29 to 11:29 AM overlapping the post-slack bite. Summer Chinook are running 12-16 lbs with a real shot at a 30+ lb trophy. Coho are showing up alongside them at Cape Mudge. This is the season. Some days on the water remind you exactly why you made the trip. Thursday morning on Discovery Passage was one of those days. Captain Bruce headed out of Coast Marina on the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk under overcast skies with the air sitting at 12°C and a light southwest wind barely ruffling the surface. Seas were 1 metre or less — comfortable, calm, and perfect for working the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. Trolling spoons through the warm 15.2°C water, the morning produced 6 Chinook released and 1 hatchery Coho kept for the barbecue. The Coho went home chrome bright and in great shape. The released Chinook went back healthy — conservation-minded fishing at its best. The approach of the 8:57 AM slack at Seymour Narrows helped concentrate the morning bite, with the minor solunar feeding window between 9 and 10 AM adding a productive edge to the action. Today's guest was Christine, visiting from Calgary on her very first saltwater charter. Seven fish to the boat on a 4-hour introductory trip — that's a first-timer experience worth talking about back home. The look on Christine's face when that Coho came to the net? That's the whole story. The Boston Whaler Montauk is purpose-built for exactly this kind of fishing — nimble enough to target specific spots in Discovery Passage, stable enough to fish comfortably in the morning chop. Two-person trips on this vessel are intimate and focused, with Captain Bruce's veteran local knowledge guiding every move. June is shaping up beautifully. Captain Trevor put the Boston Whaler Montauk right where it needed to be today — Discovery Passage, main channel, working the current seams between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. Conditions were ideal for a June day on the water. Air temperature held at 13°C under overcast skies with barely a breath of wind — just 4 km/h out of the west-northwest. Seas stayed at a metre or less, making for a comfortable ride in the nimble 17-foot Montauk. Visibility was wide open at 10 km with no fog to contend with. The bite came as the tide drained toward a 2.7-foot low at 2:11 PM, a big swing from the morning high that flushed bait through the passage. Two chrome bright salmon came to the boat, both in outstanding condition — silver sides, clean fins, the kind of fish that make your arms tired and your face hurt from grinning. The bigger of the two had real weight to it, consistent with the 12-to-16-pound fish we've been seeing this early summer season, with always a chance at a trophy 30-pounder moving through. Water temperature hit 15°C, which has the fish active and holding in the 80-to-120-foot range — perfect for trolling. The Montauk's nimble design lets Captain Trevor work specific spots and current edges that bigger boats can't access, and today that precision paid off. The 4-hour trips are running three departures daily at 6 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM out of Coast Marina A Dock, with free parking at Tyee Plaza. June 3, 2026
Six Chinook salmon hooked and released in four hours. That was the scorecard today as Captain Bruce worked the historic Tyee waters off Cape Mudge aboard the 17-foot Boston Whaler Montauk. Conditions were ideal for a midday session. Air temperature held at a pleasant 20°C under overcast skies with light WNW winds at 7 km/h. Seas were calm at 1 metre or less with excellent visibility. The marine forecast had northwest winds building later in the evening, but our 11 AM to 3 PM window was smooth and comfortable — perfect conditions for a first-time angler. The bite turned on right as the tide bottomed out. A 2.4-foot low at 1:37 PM coincided with slack water at Seymour Narrows at 1:43 PM, creating a textbook feeding window that the Chinook couldn't resist. Trolling hoochies behind flashers in the 80-120 foot range, Captain Bruce put the nimble Montauk on productive water along the southern tip of Quadra Island where warm 15.1°C water had fish holding shallower than usual. The best fish of the day was a chrome bright 15-pounder — a thick, healthy summer Chinook that put on a show before being released in perfect condition. All six fish were carefully released, keeping the run strong for the season ahead. Today's guest Joerg traveled all the way from Germany as a graduation present to himself, and Campbell River delivered in spectacular fashion. His first-ever salmon fishing trip turned into an afternoon he won't soon forget — six hookups, six fights, and a 15-pound best fish on his introductory trip. No experience needed, and the ocean provided a world-class welcome. The Boston Whaler Montauk is purpose-built for these intimate 2-person trips. Eight Chinook salmon came to the boat today on a 4-hour introductory trip through Discovery Passage, and every one of them went back to swim another day. The best fish pushed 9 pounds — chrome bright and full of fight. Captain Bruce took first-time guests Brendan and Nami out aboard the 17-foot Boston Whaler Montauk, departing Coast Marina at 11:00 AM. Conditions were about as good as it gets for early June: 29°C air temperature, light east wind at 7 knots, seas under one metre, and visibility stretching past 10 kilometres. Blue sky, snow-capped mountains ringing the passage, and calm water from rail to rail. The technique was straightforward — trolling hoochies behind flashers through the main channel of Discovery Passage. Water temperature came in at 15.1°C, warm enough to push the Chinook into shallower feeding lanes. The key window was the slack before flood at 1:06 PM, which lined up with a major solunar feeding period under a full moon. That combination turned the bite on, and the fish cooperated. Brendan and Nami made the drive down from Grand Prairie for their first ocean salmon fishing experience, and they picked the right day. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for a party of two — Captain Bruce can work specific spots and current seams that bigger boats can't access. Every fish was a first for these two, and the smiles told the whole story. Summer Chinook fishing in Campbell River is off to a strong start. 11 Chinook Released in Discovery Passage
11 Chinook Released in Discovery Passage
May 29, 2026
Sometimes the best fishing days aren't measured in what you keep — they're measured in what comes to the boat. Today on Discovery Passage, Captain Jason put first-time guests Rosie, Alex, Michael, and Katrina from Europe onto 11 Chinook salmon in a single half-day charter. Every one of those fish went back into the water, just the way they'd planned it. Conditions were classic spring Campbell River: 17°C air temperature, northwest wind at 10 knots with afternoon gusts to 32 km/h, broken clouds, and 10 km visibility. Sea state was under 1 metre - comfortable fishing throughout on the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest. The heated cabin gave the group a warm base when the gusts kicked up, and the premium electronics kept us dialed into the productive water. Water temperature was running at 15.1°C - warm spring conditions that had the Chinook active and feeding. We ran plugs and hoochies on downriggers at 180 feet and worked the flood tide building toward high water at 5:27 PM. The critical window came right around the slack before ebb at 5:38 PM, when the current transition concentrated baitfish and the bite sharpened. Best fish of the day went 14 lbs - a quality spring Chinook on a catch-and-release mission. Eleven fish to the boat in five hours is the kind of session that turns a first-time angler into a lifelong one. This group came to Discovery Passage for the experience of salmon fishing on Vancouver Island, and Campbell River delivered exactly that. Spring Chinook are running well in Discovery Passage right now, with fish in the 12-20 lb range and plenty of willing biters in the 150-200 foot zone. If you've been thinking about booking a half-day or full-day charter this spring, the bite is on. What a day on the water. Terry, Montana, and Jason drove over from Kelowna for their first fishing trip in Campbell River with Fishing Storie Charters — and Discovery Passage delivered in a big way. Twelve Chinook hooked and released over the course of a full-day charter aboard our 27' Boston Whaler Conquest. Conditions were near perfect for late May. Air temperature hit 24°C under mostly clear skies with a light west-northwest breeze at 8 knots. Seas were calm at under 1 metre with excellent visibility across the passage. We had a comfortable, fishable day from start to finish. The bite turned on as we approached the slack before flood at 9:21 AM in Seymour Narrows. Fish were holding deep — we ran Tomic plugs on downriggers at 220 feet and the Chinook were there waiting. Water temperature was 15.1°C, and the fish were active and aggressive. The best Chinook of the day went 14 pounds, chrome bright and full of fight on the long pull from depth. Most fish ranged from 12 to 15 pounds — healthy spring Chinook in excellent condition. Every fish was released carefully, swimming strong back into the current. The crew from Kelowna had never experienced anything like it — twelve hookups on their very first Campbell River trip. The heated cabin on the Conquest kept everyone comfortable during the early morning run out, and our Starlink WiFi meant photos were heading home to family before we even got back to the dock. Five Chinook salmon were hooked and released, with the best fish of the day coming in at 7 lbs — a healthy feeder Chinook in chrome-bright condition right off the historic Tyee grounds at the southern tip of Quadra Island. Conditions on the water were active but fishable. Air temperature was a pleasant 17°C with an ESE wind running 22 km/h and gusting to 39 km/h — enough to put a chop on the water but well within the Montauk's range. The Environment Canada marine forecast called for 1 metre seas or less, and that held true through our time on the grounds. Overcast skies meant excellent diffused light — ideal for trolling and comfortable for guests. The tide timing worked in our favour. High water at 12:25 PM and a slack before ebb at 12:57 PM put us right in the zone as the current began its afternoon run through Discovery Passage. That ebb flow concentrates bait along the Cape Mudge rip, and Captain Bruce ran Tomic plugs through the zone at 60 to 100 feet in 14.7°C water. The solunar minor feeding period ran right through the first hour — the fish were active and the plugs did their job. Today's guests were on their first fishing trip with us — a 4-hour intro experience — and came away with five bites and a new appreciation for what Discovery Passage can produce in spring. The Montauk is the perfect platform for this kind of targeted fishing: nimble enough to work the specific rips and current seams at Cape Mudge, with free parking at Tyee Plaza and a clean, classic open boat experience. Spring Chinook are in the water and feeding. The Cape Mudge grounds are producing. If you've been thinking about booking a trip to Campbell River, May and June are excellent windows before the summer crowds arrive. Spots available for our 6 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM departures. Two Chrome Bright Winter Chinook on a Ra
Two Chrome Bright Winter Chinook on a Ra
March 13, 2026
Captain Bruce and the Boston Whaler Montauk proved again why Campbell River earns its reputation as the Salmon Capital of the World — even in the quiet months. Conditions were honest March fishing. Four degrees, light rain, an east wind barely stirring the surface. Seas stayed under a metre and the Montauk slipped through the chop without complaint. Visibility was low with overcast skies and rain, but Captain Bruce knows these waters by feel as much as by sight. The target was winter Chinook in Seymour Narrows, timing the approach around the 9:20 AM slack before flood. When the current in the Narrows drops from 7.5 knots to nothing, the bait suspends and the Chinook move in to feed. That is exactly what happened. Two chrome bright fish came to the boat, both in the 12 to 15 pound range — healthy, silver, and full of fight. Downriggers were set deep, 180 to 240 feet, where the cold water holds the feeders this time of year. Water temperature was 7.5°C. The solunar forecast rated the day as Good, with a major feeding period from 6:11 to 8:11 AM aligning nicely with the building tide change. The last quarter moon at 35 percent illumination kept conditions favorable. This was a 4-hour introductory trip — proof that you do not need a full day to get into fish when the captain knows where to be and when to be there. The Montauk is nimble, quick to the grounds, and perfect for an intimate fishing experience with one or two anglers. Spring Chinook fishing is underway in Campbell River. Spots are filling for March and April. Book your trip at **hidden content** and let Captain Bruce put you on the fish.

Three Generations, One Boat, and a Cape
Three Generations, One Boat, and a Cape
September 20, 2026
There's fishing, and then there's watching a grandfather, a father, and a son land salmon side by side for the first time. That was this morning aboard the Boston Whaler Conquest. David, Mike, and Mo came up from Washington State for their first day on the water in Campbell River together — three generations, one charter. Captain Jason had them off Coast Marina A Dock at first light and pointed south to the historic Tyee grounds off Cape Mudge. Conditions were kind. Overcast skies, 13°C, and just a whisper of NNW wind at 3 knots. Discovery Passage delivered flat calm to light chop, comfortable running all morning. That soft grey overcast light is exactly what salmon like. We trolled hoochies behind flashers with downriggers set at 180 feet, and the bite ran steady on the tail of the morning ebb after the 6:54 AM slack at Seymour Narrows. Six salmon in the box, eight released, with the best Chinook hitting 14 lbs — chrome bright and right in the Tyee-season pocket. Coho joined the party too, silver and full of fight. The Conquest offers a heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to four — perfect for family trips like this one. September is Tyee season, and spots are filling fast. First-Time Anglers, First Chinook — 15lb
First-Time Anglers, First Chinook — 15lb
September 20, 2026
Two first-timers from New Orleans got the full Campbell River welcome this morning. Kirk and Shu had never salmon fished before, and by the time we ran back to the dock they had a chrome 15-pounder in the box and were already asking about next year. Conditions were kind. Overcast skies, 12°C, and a light NW breeze at 2 knots kept the water calm — one metre or less across Discovery Passage. Good visibility, no fog, and easy, comfortable fishing for two newcomers finding their sea legs. We stayed off Seymour Narrows while it ebbed and worked the red can instead, trolling 603 Tomic plugs on the downriggers between 80 and 120 feet. Water temp was a warm 16°C, so the Chinook were up and eating. We landed a bunch — 6 released and 2 kept — with that 15-pounder the standout. Most fish this time of year run 12 to 16 lbs, with a genuine shot at a trophy 30-plus pounder. September is Tyee season, so there's no size limit and you can keep the big ones. We fished from the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to 4 guests. All gear provided, no experience needed. If Kirk and Shu can go from never-fished to first Chinook in one morning, so can you. Tyee season spots are filling fast for late September. Book at **hidden content**

Chrome 17lb Chinook on a Flat Calm Tyee
Chrome 17lb Chinook on a Flat Calm Tyee
September 16, 2026
Some mornings the strait hands you everything. Today was one of them. Captain Bruce ran the 6am trip on the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Gian, visiting from Saint Louis for his first crack at Campbell River Chinook. We rolled out under clear skies, 14°C, calm north wind, and 10km of visibility — you could see the mountains clean across the water. The forecast promised northwest wind later, but the seas we fished were flat, one metre or less, glass in every direction. We worked the historic Tyee grounds off Cape Mudge, trolling Tomic plugs on the downriggers between 80 and 120 feet. The flood tide built through the morning toward the 10:16 AM high, moving bait and turning on the bite. Water temp held warm at 16.8°C, so the fish were up and eating. The day gave up five Chinook — one kept, four released. The keeper was a chrome bright 17-pounder, thick and fresh with sea lice still on her. The rest were solid feeders in the 12-16 lb range, sent back to keep the run healthy. The look on Gian's face told the whole story. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for one or two anglers who want an intimate, hands-on day targeting specific spots with a veteran guide. Solunar rating was Good today and September's Tyee season is running strong. Spots are filling fast for September. Book your trip today at **hidden content**

September 14, 2026
A bluebird Sunday on Discovery Passage, and a full-day salmon charter that delivered. Captain Jason ran the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest out to Grant's Reef with a crew of five from Winnipeg — a father and son among them, and first-timers on our water. What a way to spend a day with Dad. Conditions were about as good as September gives you. Air temp 16°C, light ESE wind at just 2 knots, scattered clouds and 10km visibility. Flat calm seas, a metre or less, and warm water at 16.5°C had the fish active and feeding. We trolled Tomic 602 plugs 80 to 120 feet down at 2.5 knots. The morning tide did the rest — Seymour Narrows slack before ebb at 8:13 AM, with the building flood pushing bait through the passage. The bite ran hot. Chinook and Coho both, chrome bright and mostly 12-16 lb feeders, with the best fish of the day going 17 pounds. Solunar forecast rated good, and the fish agreed. The Boston Whaler Conquest is built for days like this — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for a group up to four. Ian, Chris, Marshall, Chris and Rick got the full Campbell River Tyee season experience. September is prime time. No slot limit now, so there's a real shot at a trophy Chinook.
The Green Can delivered this afternoon. Luke and his dad Peter came out for their first-ever charter aboard our 27' Boston Whaler Conquest, and they left with a spread of Chinook and a story to tell. Conditions were textbook September. Clear sky, 13°C, west wind at just 7 knots, and visibility out past 10 km. The Discovery Passage forecast held seas to a metre or less through our afternoon window, so it fished flat and easy. We had the boat back in before the overnight northwest wind and fog moved in. We trolled hoochies and Tiger Prawn behind flashers, downriggers set 80 to 120 feet, working the flooding tide building toward the 5:03 PM high. Slack before ebb at Seymour Narrows hit at 5:04 PM, and with a New Moon overhead the solunar forecast was rated Excellent. The minor feeding window at moonrise lined up with high slack, and that's exactly when the rods started dancing. Twelve Chinook came to the boat — three kept, nine released. Most were solid 12 to 16 lb fish, chrome bright and fresh. The best taped 16 pounds. Luke and Peter had so much fish they're taking it straight to the local smokers. The Conquest runs heated cabin, private washroom, and Starlink WiFi — comfortable for groups up to 4, departing Coast Marina A Dock with free parking at Tyee Plaza. September delivered. William and Pat, brothers down from Washington on their first trip with us, joined Captain Jason aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for an early morning start in Discovery Passage. Conditions couldn't have been better. Clear sky, 13°C, and a light west wind at just 7 knots. Visibility ran a clean 10 km and the seas stayed under a metre — flat, easy water for a morning of trolling. Bright, calm, and comfortable. We ran hoochies behind flashers deep on the downriggers at 220ft, right in the feeding zone. Water temp sat at a warm 16.5°C, and the fish were on it. The bite built through the morning as the tide moved bait through the main channel, and it lined up perfectly with an EXCELLENT solunar forecast — the major feeding window ran 9:43 to 11:43 AM, and that's when it fired. Fourteen Chinook to the boat. Most were solid 12-16 lb feeders, with the best of the day a trophy pushing 22 lbs. This is Tyee season in Campbell River — the time of year when a real bruiser is on the table. She and Paul are already planning their next one. The Tyee season is delivering. This morning Captain Bruce ran the 6 AM trip aboard our 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Bonnie and Bruce, a party of two, and put a 23-pound chrome Chinook in their hands to start their day right. Conditions were about as good as September gives you. Air temp of 19°C, broken cloud, and a light easterly wind at 8 knots. Seas ran 1 metre or less with clean 10 km visibility — comfortable, fishable water all morning. The forecast called northwest 10 to 15 knots and it laid down nicely. We trolled Tomic plugs, the 602 pattern, down 80 to 120 feet through Discovery Passage. The bite tracked the tide, best around the 8:36 AM slack before flood and into the early push, which lined up with a Good solunar window and a major feeding period from 7:30 to 9:30 AM. Water temp of 17.4°C kept the fish active and higher in the column. Four Chinook came to the boat and all four were released — the 23-pounder was the standout, with the rest solid feeders in the 12-16 lb range. In Tyee season (Sept 1+) there's no maximum size, so a fish like that trophy is a keeper if you want it. These two chose to send them back. Some afternoons the water gives you something special. Today it gave us a 28-pound Chinook. Conditions were kind: 23°C, overcast with the sun breaking through, a light ENE breeze at 6 knots, and seas running 1 metre or less. Clean, comfortable water for a family day on the boat. We trolled 602 Tomic plugs down at 80 to 120 feet near the green can, timing the bite to the flood tide building toward the 3:20 PM high. That moving water stacked the bait, and the fish were there. Four Chinook in the box — and the best of them a chrome-bright 28-pounder, a true Tyee-class fish and the kind you remember for years. Chelsea, visiting from Vancouver on her first-ever charter, got the full Campbell River welcome. Three generations, one big fish, and a lot of laughing on the back deck. Tyee season is here and Discovery Passage delivered on Saturday. Captain Bruce ran the midday intro trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Dwight and Tanya, a party of two, and they came back to the dock with four chrome bright salmon and a pair of well-earned smiles. Conditions were about as good as September gets. Air temp of 14°C under an easy overcast, north wind barely registering at 1 km/h, and a clean 10 km of visibility. The marine forecast called for seas 1 metre or less, and out on the channel it was flat calm — green water and working rod tips. Easy, comfortable fishing for two anglers new to the water. We timed the day around the tide. The flood built all morning toward the 2:28 PM high, and that push of current through the main channel got the fish moving. Trolling hoochies and Tomic plugs at 80 to 120 feet did the trick, with the plugs earning their keep. The fish ran mostly 12 to 16 lbs — solid, healthy Chinook, and with the September regs open to two per day with no size cap, there's always a shot at something bigger. The Montauk is nimble and made for exactly this kind of trip — intimate, personal, and perfect for two. A beautiful, still morning on Discovery Passage this Saturday, September 5. Captain Bruce ran the 6 AM departure aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Andrew aboard for a 4-hour introductory trip. Conditions were as good as September gives you. Air temp sat at 14°C with barely a breath of wind, N at 1 km/h. Overcast, soft grey light, and 10 km of visibility. The marine forecast called for light wind becoming southeast 5 to 15 knots and seas 1 metre or less, and on the water it was flat calm. Easy, comfortable fishing. We timed the tide well. Slack before flood at Seymour Narrows came at 6:12 AM, and the building flood right after pushed bait through the channel. That early flood window is prime, and it delivered. Trolling hoochies on the downriggers in the 80 to 120 foot range, the rod loaded up and Andrew brought a chrome bright Chinook in the 14 to 16 lb range to the net. A solid feeder, fresh from the salt. The solunar rating was Good, with the major feeding window running through our first hour. Water temp read a warm 17.2°C, keeping fish active and shallower.
The Tyee season is delivering. Today Captain Jason ran the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest out of Coast Marina for a full day charter with five first-time anglers visiting from LA, and Discovery Passage came through in a big way. Conditions were about as good as September gets. Air temp of 15°C, light ESE wind at only 3 knots, broken clouds, and 10km visibility. Seas ran 1 metre or less — near flat calm for the morning bite. Easy, comfortable water for guests new to the sport. We trolled hoochies behind flashers on the downriggers, working 80 to 120 feet through the morning flood. Warm 17.3°C water had the Chinook active and feeding hard. The result: 11 fish to the boat, plenty of chrome-bright salmon in the 12 to 16 lb range, and the standout — a 25 lb Chinook that was the biggest any of the group had ever landed. What a way to celebrate. Fourteen friends made the trip over from Alberta to put Luca on the water for his 18th birthday — his O-Fish-Ally — and Campbell River delivered across two days and four boats. Conditions were textbook summer here on the coast: 13°C, full overcast, steady light rain, and calm water. The marine forecast held to seas of 1 metre or less with light winds becoming southeast 5 to 15 knots — easy, comfortable trolling all morning. Rain gear on, heated cabin warm, spirits high. The fish cooperated. We ran Tomic 602 plugs down at 170 feet on the downriggers through the green can, and the bite came through in solid pushes around the morning tide change. Water temp was a warm 17.9°C, which kept the Chinook active and willing. Across the group we put 14 Chinook in the boxes and released another 20, most fish in the 12 to 16 lb range with the best of the day going 17 lbs. Chrome bright and full of fight. Ernesto arranged the whole thing for his son, and watching a first-time crew of young guys hook up in the rain and not care one bit about the weather — that's the good stuff. August 29, 2026
A fine morning on Discovery Passage. Captain Bruce ran the 4-hour introductory trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with James, visiting from Mississippi for his first Pacific salmon. Conditions were about as good as they get for late August. Air temp of 16°C, a light NNW breeze at just 6 knots, and clean 10 km visibility under a few high clouds. The marine forecast held with seas one metre or less — a gentle chop, comfortable water all morning. Sunrise at 6:31 AM gave us that soft light off the passage. We worked the green can, letting the morning ebb push bait through. Trolling Tomic plugs on the downriggers at 80 to 120 feet, we put eight Chinook to the boat over four hours. Seven released clean under the summer slot rules, and one chrome bright keeper in the 12 to 14 lb range for the box. Every fish came up bright and pulled hard. The timing helped. A Full Moon put the solunar forecast at Excellent, and the early feeding window lined right up with our first passes. For a first-timer, James picked it up fast and had the grin to prove it. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for one or two anglers — a classic open boat that gets you right on the fish. We depart Coast Marina A Dock with free parking at the south end of Tyee Plaza. Three trips daily at 6am, 11am, and 4pm. September 1 opens the Tyee season with a shot at bigger fish. Spots are filling fast for the fall run. Book at **hidden content**

Some trips write themselves. Mom booked her boys a day on the water, and the boys came through. Seann, Lyle, Chase, and Hamer made the trip over from Alberta for their first taste of Campbell River salmon fishing, and Cape Mudge did not disappoint. Conditions were about as good as summer gets. Air sat at 23°C under broken clouds with 10 km of visibility. Wind stayed light from the east, around 8 knots, and Environment Canada had seas at 1 metre or less. Flat, easy running all morning aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest. We fished the historic Tyee waters off the southern tip of Quadra Island, trolling Tomic plugs deep on the downriggers at 220 feet. The bite lined up with the tide. Slack before flood hit at 11:36 AM, and the fish woke up right in that window, backed by a full moon and an Excellent solunar rating. The result: a limit of Chinook, most in the honest 12-16 lb range, topped by a beautiful 16-pounder. We added Lingcod to the box and released four wild Coho to keep the run strong. Nine salmon to the boat for a group of first-timers is a day they will not forget. The Conquest is built for groups up to four, with a heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and premium electronics. Free parking at the south end of Tyee Plaza, departing Coast Marina A Dock. Day Two Limit - Chinook and Lingcod off
Day Two Limit - Chinook and Lingcod off
August 27, 2026
Some days the water just gives. Today was one of them. The crew from Sorrento - seann, chase, lyle and Lenard - joined Captain Jason aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for Day Two of their run, and they limited out on Chinook with a couple of Lingcod to show for it. Best fish taped 15 lbs, with the rest sitting comfortably in the 12-16 lb range. Chrome bright, healthy, and hard-fighting. Conditions were rewarding. Overcast skies, 17°C, and a light southeast wind at 8 knots kept the seas at a metre or less - enough chop to work the lures, calm enough to fish in comfort. Visibility ran a clean 10 km. We worked the water off the red can in Discovery Passage, trolling Tomic plugs down at 220ft on the downriggers. The flood tide pushed bait through the morning and the fish followed. With a Full Moon overhead and an Excellent solunar rating, the feeding windows lined up right - the bite turned on when the moon and tide agreed. The Boston Whaler Conquest brings a heated cabin, private washroom, and Starlink WiFi - room and comfort for a group of four. Returning guests know the difference. August dates are filling fast. Chrome Chinook on a Flat-Calm Summer Eve
Chrome Chinook on a Flat-Calm Summer Eve
August 26, 2026
There are evenings on the water that just sit right, and August 25 was one of them. Captain Bruce ran the 4:00 PM trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Mathew and Shiro, visitors from White Rock getting their first taste of Campbell River salmon fishing. Conditions were about as good as it gets. Air temp held at 23°C under broken clouds, with light WNW wind at just 2 knots and clear 10km visibility across to the mountains. The strait was glassy — flat calm with barely a ripple. Environment Canada called seas 1 metre or less, and where we fished it was even quieter than that. We worked the Green Can in Discovery Passage, trolling hoochies behind flashers with the downriggers set at 80 to 120 feet. Warm 18.1°C water had the fish up and active. The bite stayed steady through the evening: a couple of Chinook kept in the slot, plenty more released, and the best pushing 10 lbs — chrome bright and fresh. Most fish this season run 12-16 lbs with an outside shot at a trophy. We timed it around the 5:10 PM slack and the building high tide. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for two anglers — great for slipping into specific spots and getting hands-on. For a first trip, Mathew and Shiro couldn't have asked for a better introduction. Spots are filling fast for the rest of August and into Tyee season this September. Book at **hidden content**

Ten Chinook to the Boat — Chrome 17-Poun
As Kristy put it: "We will be calling you when we come back." There's a special kind of quiet that settles over Discovery Passage in the evening, and Susan and Kevin got the full dose of it on their first-ever Campbell River charter. Up from Washington State, they climbed aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for an afternoon-into-evening half day with Captain Jason, and the water rewarded them. Conditions were about as friendly as summer gets. Fourteen degrees, a whisper of north wind at 2 knots, scattered clouds, and 10 km visibility with the sun sliding toward an 8:34 PM sunset. Seas ran 1 metre or less, closer to a light ripple where we fished. Warm 18.1°C water had the fish up and active. We worked the green can in Discovery Passage, trolling hoochies behind flashers with the downriggers set 80 to 120 feet. The building evening flood toward the 8:57 PM high, lined up with the major solunar feeding window, and the bite came. Three chrome Chinook came over the rail, the best a clean 15-pounder, all inside the summer slot. Best time of day right now is that last couple hours of light, when the flood pushes bait and the fish come to feed. First-timers welcome — all gear, knowledge, and coaching provided, plus a heated cabin, private washroom, and Starlink WiFi aboard. Susan and Kevin are already talking about their next trip. A textbook August afternoon on Discovery Passage. Captain Bruce ran the 4:00 PM introductory trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Nipun and Nipun, a couple visiting from Burnaby on their very first salmon adventure. Conditions were about as good as it gets. Sixteen degrees, a light NW breeze at 7 knots, scattered clouds and clean 10 km visibility. Seas ran one metre or less — light chop in the sheltered waters off Quathiaski Cove near the Quadra Island ferry terminal. Calm, comfortable water for two anglers new to it all. We trolled Tomic plugs, the reliable 603, down around 80 to 120 feet. The bite lined up with the slack before flood at Seymour Narrows (3:20 PM) and the major solunar feeding window in the early afternoon — solunar rating was Good today, and the fish agreed. The rod bent, the couple brought it up together, and a chrome-bright 14 lb Chinook came over the rail. A second fish followed. First trip, first Chinook, wide grins all around. A picture-perfect summer evening on the water with a family who traded the mountain bike trails of Cumberland for a rod and reel. Jason, Sarah, and their two girls, Rivers and Summit, joined Captain Jason aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for a half day salmon charter — and the fish showed up. Conditions were flat calm and beautiful. Air temp held at 16°C under a clear sky, with light WNW wind at 2 knots and 10km-plus visibility. Seas ran a metre or less — glass in the lee of the Passage. Fishing right into the 8:40 PM sunset made for that golden evening light every angler hopes for. We trolled Tomic plugs deep at 200 feet on the downriggers, working the drop off the green can as the tide built toward the evening high. The slack before ebb at 7:29 PM firmed the bite right up. The result: three Chinook kept and three released, all chrome bright and in the 12 to 16 lb range, with the best fish going 16 lbs. Solunar rating was Good, and the dusk feeding window lined up perfectly. The Boston Whaler Conquest is built for families — a heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to four. What a way to start a fishing life. Stephen and Donna made the trip out to Campbell River and stepped aboard the Boston Whaler Conquest for a half-day afternoon-into-evening salmon charter — their first time ever chasing Chinook. Cape Mudge did not disappoint. Conditions were beautiful. Clear sky, 22°C, a light WNW breeze around 11 km/h, and 10 km visibility. Seas stayed one metre or less through the evening, so it was comfortable and easy on the water. We built into the 6:20 PM high tide, with Seymour Narrows slack before ebb at 6:15 PM — that tide push is what turns the bite on at Cape Mudge. And it turned on. Today was a five-star solunar day on the new moon, and the fish showed up for it. We trolled Tomic plugs on the downriggers at 169 feet, working the historic Tyee waters off the southern tip of Quadra Island. Both Stephen and Donna landed chrome bright 78 cm Chinook, with the best fish pushing 16 lbs. Most fish were in that solid 12-16 lb feeder range. The Conquest is built for days like this — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, premium electronics, and room for up to four. What a day. Brett came back to us and brought the whole crew — his brother, his dad and his nephew — for a full day salmon charter aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest. Four generations on one boat and a box full of chrome to show for it. Conditions were about as good as summer gets. Twenty-six degrees, clear sky, and a light east wind at just 5 knots. The marine forecast called for seas 1 metre or less and Discovery Passage lay glass calm through the morning. We departed early to catch the first light and worked the moving tide through the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. The plugs did the work. We ran the downriggers at 125 feet and trolled the passage, and the rods kept bending. Water temp sat at 18.3°C — warm and active — and the fish came up chrome bright, mostly solid feeder Chinook in the 12-16 lb range. Best fish of the day went 15 lbs. The bigger ones over the slot limit went back to keep the run healthy. Today was a New Moon with an Excellent solunar rating, and the major feeding window lined up right with the midday tide change. When the conditions come together like that, it shows on the water. The Boston Whaler Conquest is built for groups up to four — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, premium electronics. A bluebird August morning on Discovery Passage, and it delivered. Captain Trevor ran the 4-Hour Introductory Trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Greg, out for his first time on the water off Campbell River. Conditions were about perfect. Clear sky, 20°C air, and a light NNW breeze at just 4 knots. Seas ran a metre or less — a gentle chop, flat and fishable, with visibility stretching a full 10 km across the passage toward the Cape Mudge light. Easy, comfortable water in the nimble Whaler. We trolled hoochies behind flashers down deep at 222 feet, working the ebb through the main channel while Seymour Narrows ripped hard to the north. The timing paid off. Today was an Excellent solunar day on a new moon, with the major feeding window landing late morning — and the fish were on it. Greg picked away at a handful of Chinook, released a few to keep the run healthy, and put a chrome bright ten-pounder in the boat. His first salmon. The look said it all. The Montauk is perfect for exactly this — one or two anglers, a classic open-boat experience, and a laid-back guide who loves teaching beginners. What a way to start a summer week on the water. Captain Trevor took first-timers Adam and Paige out on the 6am trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, and Discovery Passage did not disappoint. Conditions were about as friendly as it gets. 20°C, broken cloud, and barely a breath of wind — ENE at 2 knots over flat water. Visibility a clean 10km, seas a metre or less. The kind of morning where two anglers can learn the ropes without fighting the elements. We trolled hoochies behind flashers, running downriggers at 200ft in the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. The bite firmed up heading into the 10:43 AM slack at Seymour Narrows, with the softening current pushing bait through the passage. Water temp read a warm 18°C and the fish were active. Six fish to the boat — two kept, four released. The standout was a chrome bright 18-pounder that came up silver and fresh, with the rest solid 12-16 lb feeders. The bigger fish went back under DFO slot rules, and Adam's grin on the dock said it all. Not a bad first day of salmon fishing. His first ever. Hooked for life. Conditions were about as good as summer gets. Air temp 19°C, a few clouds, light easterly wind at 8 km/h laying down to near calm. Seas a metre or less, closer to flat, with clear 10 km visibility and no fog. We ran out on the 6 AM departure aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, a nimble classic that puts you right on the fish. Saturday, August 8 gave us a picture-perfect morning on Discovery Passage. Captain Trevor ran the 6 AM introductory trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, and it was a good one. Conditions were ideal. Clear sky, 23°C, and a light NW breeze at 7 km/h. The strait held calm through the early window with just a light chop and seas under a metre. Water was warm at 18.1°C, which kept the Chinook feeding actively and up in the column. We timed the trip around the morning slack before flood at 8:51 AM - the classic Discovery Passage window when the tide pushes bait through and the fish key in. Trolling hoochies behind flashers at 25 feet on the downriggers, we picked away steadily. The result was 1 kept and 5 released, topped by a chrome bright Chinook right around 20 lbs. Under the summer slot limit we release the big ones to keep the run strong, and several healthy fish went back. Clint fished solo and got the full intro-trip treatment - learning the gear, the tides, and how to work a fish to the net. He was grinning ear to ear with that Chinook in hand. There's nothing quite like watching someone catch their first real fish. Today Captain Trevor took Quentin and Benno — a father and son visiting from Germany, both fishing for the very first time — out on the 11 AM midday trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk. Conditions were about perfect. Clear blue sky, 23°C, and just a light northwest breeze around 10 km/h. Visibility stretched a clean 10 kilometres and the seas sat at a metre or less through the whole window. Easy water, comfortable boat, and a laid-back day on Discovery Passage. We ran Tomic plugs on the downriggers at 160 feet, working the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. Water temp read a warm 18.2°C, so the fish were active. The building tide toward the afternoon high did the work, pushing bait through the channel. Solunar rating was Good and the fish cooperated — one kept, two released. The fish of the day was a chrome bright Chinook right at 15 pounds. Silver, fresh, and heavy in a young angler's hands. The look on his face said it all. Saturday, August 8 delivered a picture-perfect summer morning on Discovery Passage. Captain Bruce ran the 6 AM departure aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Satoshi and Hugo, two first-time anglers up from San Diego. Conditions couldn't have been better. Clear sky, 23°C, and a light NE breeze at just 5 km/h. The marine forecast held seas at 1 metre or less, and out on the water it was flat calm with deep blue water and 10 km visibility — the coastal mountains standing sharp on the horizon. Rewarding water for anyone new to salmon fishing. We worked the green can on the flood tide, timing our troll around the morning slack at Seymour Narrows at 7:49 AM. That moving water is where the bait stacks up, and it lined up with a Good solunar feeding window from 7:06 to 9:06 AM. Trolling classic Tomic plugs at 80 to 120 feet in warm 18°C water, we put a chrome bright Chinook around 14 lbs in the box and released six more — solid summer feeders, most in the 12 to 16 lb range, with always a shot at a trophy 30-pounder this time of year. First-timers Satoshi and Hugo made the trip up from San Diego and got the full Campbell River welcome. Twenty-three degrees, clear sky, and a light northeast breeze at just 5 km/h. The sea held flat at 1 metre or less through the morning window, easy water for two guys who'd never done this before. Visibility ran a clean 10 km with the coastal mountains standing sharp on the horizon. We timed the tide right. Slack before flood came at 7:49 AM, and as the flood built and pushed bait through the passage, the fishing turned on. That lined up with the major solunar feeding window from 7 to 9 AM, and the solunar rating was Good all day. Method was classic — trolling Tomic plugs on the downriggers, 80 to 120 feet down along the tide line off the green can. Water temp sat at a warm 18°C, so the fish were active and holding shallower. What a way to celebrate a Luxury Fishing package — Cory, Quinn, and Megan from Edmonton fished the morning bite and capped it with fresh fish and chips at the Coveside eatery. First time on the water for all three, and Quinn hooked the largest salmon of our season. Conditions were as good as it gets. Clear sky, 23°C, light NE wind at just 5 km/h, and 10km-plus visibility with the mainland mountains sharp on the horizon. Flat calm seas, one metre or less. Sunrise came at 5:59 AM and we were on the water for it. We worked Green Can in Discovery Passage on the morning flood, trolling Tomic plugs with a 500 UV down at 150 feet on the downriggers. Water was a warm 18°C, so the fish were active and feeding higher in the column. The bite lined up with the major solunar window — moon overhead from 6:18 to 8:18 AM under a Last Quarter moon, rated Good. Most fish ran in the typical 12-16 lb range, solid summer feeders. Then Quinn's rod buckled. A chrome bright Chinook, 103cm, about 34 pounds — a genuine trophy. Under August slot rules we released her to keep the run strong, and she swam off clean. What a midday run. Rolf joined Captain Trevor aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk for the 11 AM trip, and Discovery Passage rewarded us with a hot bite and a beautiful chrome fish. Conditions were postcard-perfect. Clear sky, 21°C, and a light ENE breeze at just 6 km/h kept the water friendly — small chop, deep blue, visibility out past 10 km with the mountains sharp on the horizon. The marine forecast has northwest wind building tonight, but our midday window was calm and comfortable. We trolled Tomic plugs at 100 feet on the downriggers along the current lines through the main channel. Water temp sat at a warm 18.6°C, keeping the fish active and feeding. We worked the ebb building toward the afternoon low, and the fish came steady. Four in the box, four released, with the best going a solid 18 lbs — chrome bright and thick. Most were healthy feeders in the 12-16 lb range, exactly what Campbell River is known for this time of year. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for targeting specific spots — ideal for a focused one or two-angler trip. Evening Chinook Bite Fires Off the Green
Evening Chinook Bite Fires Off the Green
August 3, 2026
Summer evenings on Discovery Passage are hard to beat, and Sunday proved the point. Michael brought Shannon, Nathan and Zach out on the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for a half-day evening charter, and the green can delivered. Conditions were solid. Air temp held at 16°C under scattered clouds, with a WNW breeze around 12 km/h and light chop under a metre. Clean visibility at 10 km and a long evening light running toward a 9:02 PM sunset — prime salmon time. We trolled Tomic plugs on the downriggers, 80 to 120 feet, working the flooding tide as it built toward the big evening high. That push stacked bait along the green can and the Chinook came up for it. When the water flooded, the rods went off. Final tally: four nice springs kept, ten more released. Fish ran true to summer form, 12 to 16 lbs, best of the day at 14 lbs — every one chrome bright and thick. The boys had their hands full of silver and grins to match. A first-timer's dream evening. The Conquest kept it comfortable with a heated cabin, private washroom and Starlink WiFi for sending photos straight home. Room for up to four guests, free parking at the south end of Tyee Plaza, departing Coast Marina A Dock. August is prime Chinook season here and the evening bite is on. Spots are filling fast. Glass Calm Morning, Chrome Chinook — Dis
Glass Calm Morning, Chrome Chinook — Dis
August 3, 2026
What a way to start a Monday. Chrisand joined Captain Trevor on the 6am departure aboard our 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, and Discovery Passage put on a show. Conditions were textbook. Clear blue sky, 18°C air, and a whisper of north wind at just 3 knots. The Environment Canada forecast called for NW 5 to 15 knots and seas 1 metre or less, but out on the water it was glass calm — the kind of morning where you can see line coming off the downrigger. Visibility a clean 10 km. We trolled hoochies — plastic squid lures behind flashers — with the downriggers set to 100 feet in the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island. Water temp read a warm 18.2°C, so the Chinook were up and feeding. We worked the softening tide ahead of the 9:17 AM slack at Seymour Narrows and that window did the work. Three Chinook came to the boat, all released clean under this season's 62-80cm slot rules. The best fish went a chrome bright 14 pounds — right in the 12-16 lb range we see most days, with always a chance at a trophy over 30. Chrisand ran the rod like a natural. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for one or two anglers who want a classic open-boat experience and a guide who takes the time to teach. We depart from Coast Marina A Dock with free parking at the south end of Tyee Plaza. Spots are filling fast for August. Book your 4-hour trip at **hidden content**

What a way to celebrate a honeymoon. Federica came all the way from Italy and joined Captain Trevor aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk for the 4 PM introductory trip — his very first time on these waters — and left with a memory he won't forget. Conditions were kind. Air temp held at a comfortable 16°C with a light southeast breeze of just 2 km/h. Overcast skies kept the glare down, visibility ran a clean 10 km, and the sea state was flat calm — 1 metre or less with barely a ripple. About as easy and welcoming as it gets for a first-timer. We worked Discovery Passage, the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island, trolling Tomic plugs down at 180 feet on the downriggers. The flood tide built toward the 8:25 PM high, and the bite turned on in that last hour before slack. Warm 18.4°C surface water had the fish holding deep and feeding. Five salmon released over the evening — a mix of Chinook and Coho, all chrome bright. The best was a beautiful 15 lb Chinook that came up silver in the sunset light. Right in our typical 12-16 lb summer range, with always a chance at a trophy. The nimble Montauk is perfect for one or two anglers who want an intimate, hands-on trip — and Captain Trevor is great with beginners. As the day put it, 'He will remember this for the rest of his life.' Spots are filling fast for August. Book your trip today at **hidden content**.

Some days the water just makes it easy. Friday brought soft grey skies, 18°C, and a whisper of wind out of the NNE — light chop, seas under a metre, the kind of forgiving conditions a first-time angler dreams of. Roland flew in from Sweden and hopped aboard our 17' Boston Whaler Montauk for the midday introductory trip. We worked the main channel of Discovery Passage, trolling Tomic plugs at 125 feet on the downriggers. Water was warm at 18.5°C, the fish active. With Seymour Narrows ripping on the flood, we let the moving water do the work and timed our best passes around the 1:49 PM slack. The rod loaded, the drag gave, and Roland brought a chrome bright 16 lb Chinook to hand — his first ever. We had Coho in the mix too, eight fish to the boat with a good handful released under the summer slot limit. The Montauk is nimble and made for this — perfect for one or two anglers who want a classic open-boat experience and a captain who knows where the fish hold. Captain Trevor is patient with beginners and quick to put you on fish. As Roland put it: "They would recommend this to everyone." August is prime Chinook and Coho time in Campbell River. First Salmon, First Trip: Evening Chinoo
First Salmon, First Trip: Evening Chinoo
August 1, 2026
Brenda and Damian traveled all the way from Cancun for their first taste of Campbell River salmon fishing, and the evening bite delivered exactly what they came for. We fished the 4pm session aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk with Captain Bruce — a nimble open boat built for two anglers and perfect for slipping into the productive spots. Conditions were beautiful: 18°C, bright sun, clear blue sky, and a light NNW breeze at 5 km/h that faded to calm. Seas ran 1 metre or less, flat and easy the whole way. Visibility stretched 10km with the mainland mountains on the horizon. We timed our trolling to the evening tide as the water built toward the 7:59 PM high, working the green can in Discovery Passage. Tomic 602 plugs down at 80 to 120 feet did the work. The bite turned on in that soft evening light, and by day's end we'd landed several solid Chinook in the 12-16 lb range, topped by a chrome-bright 15 lb fish. A couple went home, a few went back to keep the run strong under the summer slot limit. For a first-time angler experience, this was the full package: calm water, a patient veteran guide, and salmon on the line. This 4-hour introductory trip runs three departures daily — 6am, 11am, and 4pm. Free parking at the south end of Tyee Plaza. Summer spots are filling fast. Book at **hidden content**

Hot Morning Bite at the Green Can — Chin
Hot Morning Bite at the Green Can — Chin
August 1, 2026
The green can was firing on Friday morning. Captain Bruce ran the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk out on the early departure with Alla aboard, a first-time angler up from Edmonton — and the fish did not make him wait. Conditions were classic Campbell River summer. Overcast skies, a light rain falling, 17°C, and a soft northwest breeze at 4 knots. The Johnstone Strait forecast held true: seas 1 metre or less, just a light green chop. Good, honest fishing weather. Visibility a clean 10 km. We fished Tomic plugs on the downriggers, run 80 to 120 feet down where the 9°C water held the fish. The bite lined up with the early ebb after the 6:28 AM high, with slack before ebb at 7:39 AM and a minor feeding window right at moonrise. That two-hour swing around the tide change is where it all happened. And happen it did. Five in the box, fourteen released, and four species came over the rail — Chinook, coho, pink and lingcod. The Chinook ran a solid 12-16 lbs, with a chrome-bright 12-pounder taking fish-of-the-day honours. Anything over slot went back healthy to keep the run strong. The nimble Montauk is perfect for a trip like this — great for tucking into specific spots and giving a first-timer a proper hands-on day. As Alla put it: "Best charter in the area, will be back next year." Spots are filling fast for August. Book your Campbell River salmon trip at **hidden content**.

Some first days on the water just come together. Steven flew in from the Netherlands and booked our 4-hour introductory trip, and Discovery Passage rewarded him with a chrome-bright 19 lb Chinook. Conditions were friendly for a morning on the strait. Air temp of 20°C, a light ESE breeze around 9 knots, and scattered clouds building into big cumulus over the water. The marine forecast held to northwest 10 to 15 knots with seas 1 metre or less - light chop, comfortable running, and good visibility off the bow. Sunrise at 5:50 AM had us fishing in soft early light. We timed the morning around the tide. High water at 6:28 AM into the run-out, with Seymour Narrows slack before ebb at 7:39 AM. That hour before slack is prime, and it delivered. Water temp of 18.3°C kept the fish active and high, so we ran Tomic plugs on the downriggers at 55 feet through the main channel. Chinook and Coho both came to the boat - 5 fish moved, the bigger ones released healthy under summer slot rules. Captain Trevor runs the nimble 17' Boston Whaler Montauk - a classic open boat, perfect for one or two anglers, easy to slide into the productive water. Beginners welcome; Steven had never held a salmon rod before today, and left hooked. We run three departures daily - 6 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM. Spots are filling fast for August. Fine August day on the water aboard the Boston Whaler Conquest. We ran out of Coast Marina into 18°C air, an easy ESE breeze at 9 knots, and scattered clouds over clean blue-green water. The marine forecast held to seas of one metre or less, and on the water it was light chop and comfortable all afternoon — the kind of conditions that make a day easy. The Chinook were biting. We trolled hoochies behind flashers, downriggers set 80 to 120 feet, working the edges near the Green Can in Discovery Passage. Warm 18.3°C water had the fish up and feeding shallower than usual. The bite turned with the tide — low water at 1:08 PM rolling into the building evening flood, with Seymour Narrows slack before flood at 1:49 PM setting the table. Seven Chinook to the boat, most in the honest 12-16 lb range, topped by a chrome bright 15-pounder that ate hard. Today's trip was a special one — Eli and Arnold, a father and son from California, back for their summer fishing trip a couple of years running now. Two fish came home for the table and five went back to keep the run strong. Arms were sore. Grins were wide. July 31, 2026
Some days the ocean gives you a birthday present. Today was one of them. Mike joined Captain Jason aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for his first-ever salmon trip — and he picked his birthday to do it. What better way to celebrate than landing your first Chinook? By the end of the day we'd kept 3 solid fish in the 12-16 lb slot, released a dozen more, and the best of the bunch pushed 16 lbs of chrome-bright muscle. Conditions were about as good as summer gets. Overcast skies at 16°C, a light west breeze under 3 knots, and flat calm water with seas a metre or less. Clean 10 km visibility. We trolled hoochies behind flashers on the downriggers, 80 to 120 feet down, working the building flood tide off the morning slack. That's when The Hump lit up. The timing helped too. Full moon, 97% illuminated, and a solunar rating of Excellent — the fish were feeding and they weren't shy about it. Water temp at 18.2°C kept them active and up in the column. The Conquest gives you a heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to 4 — comfort for the whole day. First-timers and seasoned anglers alike get the same treatment: local knowledge, all the gear, and a captain who reads this water for a living. Summer Chinook are on. Spots filling fast for August. Solid morning on Discovery Passage. Captain Trevor ran the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk on a six-hour trip and the fish cooperated — two Chinook in the box within the summer slot and five more released, topped by a chrome bright 16-pounder that made the whole day. Conditions were about as good as summer gives you. Air temp 20°C, a light east wind at 5 knots, broken cloud and 10 km visibility. Seas stayed at 1 metre or less through the morning — a comfortable, fishable chop over deep blue water. We ran Tomic plugs deep on the downriggers, dropped to 222 feet in the main channel. Water temp sat at 18.5°C, which had the fish active. The best window lined up with the flood tide and the underfoot solunar feed around midday. And with a full moon and an Excellent solunar rating, today was a standout day to be on the water. Best of all, this was a returning guest — someone who fished with us before and came back for more. That tells you everything. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for one or two anglers who want to target specific spots without the crowd. Some anglers wait years for a day like this. Brent got it on his first trip. Out on the early 6am departure aboard our 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, Captain Trevor put Brent on fish right away. Conditions were about as good as summer gets — 21°C, clear skies, wind southeast at a gentle 10 knots, and 9 km of visibility. The seas stayed easy all morning at a metre or less, just a light chop on grey-green water. We trolled hoochies — plastic squid lures — behind flashers, running the downriggers at 100 feet. Water temp read a warm 18.4°C, which kept the fish up and feeding. Five salmon came to the boat and all went back: Chinook, coho, and a pink, a true mixed bag. The best of the bunch was a chrome-bright 15 lb Chinook that came up silver and fought hard through the tide line. Today's solunar forecast rated Excellent under a full moon, and the fish agreed. The bite fired on the moving water off the morning slack — timing is everything through Discovery Passage. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for one or two anglers who want an intimate, hands-on day with a local guide who's great with beginners. No experience needed — just show up ready. What a morning aboard the Boston Whaler Conquest. Three generations from Canmore, Alberta — Papa, Justin, and young Seth — joined Captain Jason for a summer multi-day charter, and the fish showed up. Conditions were about as good as it gets. Overcast skies, 17°C, and just a whisper of ENE wind at 1 to 2 knots. The marine forecast called for southeast 5 to 15 knots and seas under a metre, but out on the water it stayed flat calm with a clean 10km of visibility. Perfect for a young angler learning the ropes. We ran Tomic plugs on the downriggers at 120ft, trolling the green can in Discovery Passage. Water temp was a warm 18.3°C, so the Chinook were active and hunting. We worked the moving tide toward the afternoon slack and the bite came steady — two chrome bright Chinook kept and four more released clean. The best fish taped out at 78cm, right around 16 lbs, a proper trophy for the day. Most fish ran 12 to 16 lbs — solid summer feeders. The highlight was Papa calling the big one while Seth held the rod. A returning family, a first real Chinook for the boy, and a day none of them will forget. Chrome Salmon in the Rain — Afternoon Su
July 26, 2026
Rewarding afternoon on the water with Greg, Dionne, Nina and Peter aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest. The grey and the rain never bothered the fish. Conditions were classic Campbell River summer: 18°C, southeast wind at 10 to 15 knots, moderate rain, and about 10 km of visibility under a low ceiling. The marine forecast for Discovery Passage held to seas of 1 metre or less, so we ran comfortable and stayed dry in the heated cabin between drops. We timed the trip around the end of the flood tide, with the high building toward 5:28 PM. That last of the push shoved bait tight to the Brown's Bay shoreline and the salmon followed. Trolling spoons at 111 feet on the downriggers in 18.3°C water, we had steady action through the afternoon. Four wild coho came up bright and went back to keep the run strong — a release we're always proud of. Two solid salmon made the table, the best going 15 pounds of clean chrome. A first-time crew from right here in Campbell River got the full local experience, and Peter said he loves fishing in Campbell River. The Conquest is built for groups up to four, with a heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi and premium electronics — a comfortable ride, rain or shine. Some mornings just come together. There's something special about a first-timer's first Chinook, and today we had one. A visitor from Quebec stepped aboard the Boston Whaler Montauk for our 6am introductory trip, and Captain Trevor put them right on the fish. Conditions were rewarding. Overcast skies, 19°C, a light southeast breeze at 9 knots, and 10km of visibility - the kind of soft grey morning salmon love. The marine forecast called seas 1 metre or less, and Discovery Passage gave us just a light chop and easy running. We trolled hoochies - plastic squid lures - behind flashers with downriggers set at 25ft. With the water warm at 18.3°C, the fish were up shallow and active. The bite lined up with the morning push toward the 9:03 AM slack at Seymour Narrows, which pulled bait into the passage. Two salmon boxed, ten released across Chinook and Coho, with a chrome-bright 14 lb Chinook the highlight. Typical summer fish run 12-16 lbs here, with always a shot at a trophy 30-pounder that we release under the July slot rules. The Montauk is the perfect boat for an intimate trip - nimble, classic, and built for targeting the productive spots. We depart Coast Marina A Dock with free parking at the south end of Tyee Plaza. The afternoon trip delivered exactly what summer fishing in Campbell River is all about. One angler, Captain Trevor at the helm of the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, and a chrome bright Chinook in the 14 to 16 lb class brought to the boat. Conditions were near perfect. Air temp at 24°C, broken clouds, and light ENE wind at just 2 to 3 knots. Visibility ran a clean 10km. The Passage sat at a metre or less, comfortable and easy fishing before the northwest wind built overnight. We trolled hoochies behind flashers at 80 to 120 feet, right through the flood tide as it pushed bait into the main channel. The afternoon high landed at 5:00 PM, and with a First Quarter moon and a Good solunar rating, the evening feeding window from 6:22 PM lined up beautifully. Water temp was a warm 18.3°C, keeping the fish shallow and active. This was a first-time angler, and there is nothing like watching someone feel that first rod load up and hold their first chrome salmon. Fresh from the salt, fins intact, a fish that fought clean. What better way to celebrate a honeymoon than landing your first Chinook? On Thursday's midday trip aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk, that's exactly how it went down. Conditions were about as good as Campbell River gets in July. Air temp 24°C, broken clouds, and next to no wind — ENE at just 2 to 3 knots. Visibility ran a clean 10 km. Out in the main channel of Discovery Passage the seas were flat calm, 1 metre or less, deep blue-green water barely moving. Perfect water for a first-timer to find their sea legs and their first salmon. We ran hoochies behind flashers on the downriggers, working 80 to 120 feet. Water temp was a warm 18.3°C, which had the fish active and holding shallower than usual. The afternoon flood tide, building toward the 5:00 PM high, did the heavy lifting — that push of bait through the channel turned the bite on. The First Quarter moon gave us a Good solunar forecast to boot. The day produced a chrome-bright 15-pound Chinook as the headliner — fresh from the salt, fins intact, a textbook feeder. A fine fish for a first cast and a finer memory for a honeymoon. The Montauk is nimble, intimate, and built for two anglers who want a classic open-boat experience with a laid-back local guide. There's no better way to start than the way Patricia did this morning. First time on the salt, first fish in the boat, and a grin that said it all. We pushed off Coast Marina A Dock on the 6am run aboard our 17' Boston Whaler Montauk. Conditions were about as welcoming as summer gets. Overcast at launch, clearing to bright sun, 27°C, and only a whisper of wind, NE at 2 knots. Seas ran a metre or less, near flat calm, with clean visibility right across the strait to the mountains. Perfect water for someone learning the ropes. We fished the ebb through the morning, low tide falling to 4.6 ft at 7:32 AM, which kept the bait moving down the main channel of Discovery Passage. Trolling hoochies on the downriggers at 80 to 120 feet, we kept it slow and simple. The First Quarter moon had the solunar rating at Good, with an early feeding window that lined up nicely with our troll. Patricia stayed patient through the fight and brought a bright chrome salmon to the net, a clean, healthy fish. Her first ever. The Montauk is perfect for this kind of trip. Some days the water gives you everything. Today it gave young Samuel his first salmon, with grandpa right there beside him to see it happen. Captain Trevor took the pair out on the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk for a 4-hour introductory trip, 11 AM to 3 PM. Conditions were kind — 26°C, overcast cloud keeping the light soft, and a light easterly breeze at just 4 knots. Seas ran a metre or less, flat calm and blue-green across Discovery Passage. Easy water for a first-timer. We worked the main channel between Vancouver Island and Quadra Island, running downriggers at 200ft. Slack before ebb at Seymour Narrows landed at 11:57 AM, right as we dropped lines, and the bite settled in through the early afternoon around the midday high tide. Water temp read 18.3°C — warm and active. A Good solunar rating had the fish willing. Five fish to the boat, a mix of Chinook and Coho. The Chinook ran in that solid 12-16 lb feeder range, chrome bright and healthy, all released clean under the summer slot. The one Samuel cradled for the photo made his hands shake. What a day on the water. Four anglers, four bright salmon, and Discovery Passage laid out flat calm from dawn. We ran a full-day charter aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest with a morning departure. Conditions were about as forgiving as summer gets on the Passage: 25°C, a soft overcast sky, and a whisper of an easterly wind at just 5 km/h. Seas were 1 metre or less, essentially glass, with clean 10 km visibility all the way to the coastal mountains. Water temp read a warm 18.1°C, which had the fish feeding shallow and active. We trolled hoochies and Tomic plugs on the downriggers, working 80 to 120 feet through the morning flood tide. The window ahead of the Seymour Narrows slack at 10:49 AM produced, and the First Quarter moon kept a Good solunar rating on the board. Four healthy summer Chinook came aboard in that solid 12-16 lb feeder class, chrome bright and fresh from the salt. Today's crew was a dream team of four young guys visiting from Germany. Flat water, steady action, and four grins that said it all. Another solid day in the Tyee waters. On today's 4-hour introductory trip, Captain Bruce ran the 17-foot Boston Whaler Montauk out to Cape Mudge, the southern tip of Quadra Island, and put Samson on a chrome bright Chinook. Conditions were forgiving summer grey. Air temp held at 16°C with a light rain that never bothered the bite. Wind was near flat early, just a whisper from the east, and the marine forecast kept seas at 1 metre or less through Discovery Passage. Comfortable, easy water for a single angler. We trolled Tomic plugs at 80 to 120 feet, following the bait through the Cape Mudge tide lines. Water temp was a warm 17.4°C, which had the fish up and feeding. The timing helped too. The afternoon slack window lined up with the major solunar feeding period under a waxing crescent moon, and the solunar rating for the day read Good. Samson, a returning guest from Vancouver, came tight on a clean summer feeder in the 12 to 14 pound range, exactly the kind of chrome fish these waters are known for. Landed inside the slot and into the box. The Montauk is a nimble, classic open boat, perfect for one or two anglers who want to work specific spots with a veteran guide. Some mornings the fish just show up. Today was one of them. Captain Bruce ran the early departure aboard the 17-foot Boston Whaler Montauk with Stephen and his father, first-timers up from Toronto on a father-and-son fishing and golf adventure. Conditions could not have been better: 23°C, few clouds, and a whisper of wind — barely 1 knot — that left Discovery Passage flat calm and easy on newcomers. Visibility ran a clean 10km. We worked the green can trolling Tomic plugs, downriggers set 80 to 120 feet in 17.9°C water. The Coho were up, warm-water active, and hungry. The best window came off the 7:00 AM slack before ebb, right as the tide started to move. By the end of the morning the crew had put 23 fish on the line — four kept and nineteen released — topped by a chrome-bright 7-pounder. The new moon had the solunar forecast reading Excellent, and it showed. A near-perfect introduction to salmon fishing for two guys who'd never done it before. The Montauk is nimble and made for exactly this — two anglers, tight to the productive spots, an intimate classic open-boat experience. Opening Day Delivers — Chrome Chinook on
Opening Day Delivers — Chrome Chinook on
July 15, 2026
Opening day of the summer Chinook slot fishery, and the fish showed up. We ran the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest out of Coast Marina at first light and had rods bending before most boats cleared the harbour. Conditions were as good as it gets. Overcast and 19°C, wind barely there at 2 knots out of the NNW, and 10km visibility. The marine forecast called for NW 10-15, but out on Discovery Passage we found seas a metre or less — glass calm to light ripple. Comfortable, easy fishing all morning. We worked spoons on the downriggers, 80-120 feet down at the green can, staying south of Seymour Narrows where the ebb was running hard. The bite lined up with the tail of the flood and slack before ebb at 6:06 AM — that early window was the ticket. Water temp sat at a warm 17.6°C, fish shallow and feeding. The result: chrome-bright Chinook, mostly 12-16 lbs, thick and full of fight. Anything over the 80cm slot went back to keep the run healthy — always a good feeling to release a strong one. Special day, too. Juan, Joey, John and Levrett came back for their third annual opening day trip. Three years running, and this time three boys, three fish, three grins. Returning guests are the best part of this job. The new moon had the solunar forecast rated Excellent — outstanding fishing conditions. Summer slots are filling fast. The Conquest offers a heated cabin, Starlink WiFi, and a private washroom, perfect for groups up to four. Summer spots are filling fast. Book your trip today at **hidden content**.

35 Fish to the Boat — An Afternoon to Re
July 10, 2026
Some afternoons just come together. Friday, July 10 was one of them. We ran the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest out for a half-day salmon charter, and the fishing was as good as it gets. Thirty-five fish came to the boat and went back — Chinook and Coho both in the mix, most Chinook in the honest 12-16 lb range, with the best of the day taping out at 18 lbs. Chrome bright and full of fight. Conditions were mild and workable. Overcast at 17°C with a light east breeze at just 3 knots, a soft drizzle, and 10 km visibility. Seas ran a metre or less through our window — easy fishing, and the heated cabin kept everyone comfortable between drops. We worked the green can in Discovery Passage, trolling Tomic plugs at 140ft on the downriggers. The flood tide building toward the afternoon slack pushed bait and turned the bite on. Warm 17.1°C water had the fish active and willing. Best part of the day: this was a gift. Alberta bought the trip for Ira, and the two of them — first-timers from Victoria, BC — got the full Campbell River experience. As Alberta put it, "I've never caught so many fish in my life." The Conquest offers a heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to 4 guests. Departs Coast Marina A Dock with free parking. Spots are filling fast for July. July 6, 2026
Some days the ocean just gives. Sunday delivered our biggest Chinook of the season — and it went to Paul, a first-time angler on a 4-hour introductory trip aboard the Boston Whaler Montauk. Conditions were textbook. Air temp hit 22°C under bright sunshine and a few high clouds, with the wind barely stirring — a light southerly at 1 to 2 knots. The marine forecast called seas at 1 metre or less, and Discovery Passage was flat calm from Vancouver Island across to Quadra. Clean, comfortable, easy water for a beginner. We trolled hoochies behind flashers at 100 feet on the downriggers, working the back half of the ebb tide as it ran down toward the afternoon low. Water temp was a warm 17.9°C, fish were active, and the Last Quarter moon gave us a Good solunar rating with a strong afternoon feeding window. Then the rod buckled. Drag screaming, Paul hanging on, and up came a chrome-bright trophy Chinook — the biggest of our year. Over the 80cm slot, she was released to keep the run strong, exactly as DFO Area 13 conservation rules require. We also worked into some fresh Coho through the afternoon. The Montauk is nimble and perfect for one or two anglers who want an intimate, hands-on day with a local guide. Captain Trevor runs three trips daily (6am, 11am, 4pm) out of Coast Marina, with free parking at Tyee Plaza. Summer spots are filling fast. Book your trip today at **hidden content**

Trophy 24lb Chinook at Cape Mudge — Lars
July 6, 2026
Some days the water gives you exactly what you came for. Lars flew in from Europe wanting one thing — a big fish. Cape Mudge delivered a chrome 24-pounder, the biggest fish of his life. Conditions were about as good as summer gets. Air temp at 21°C, few clouds, and a light southerly breeze barely stirring the surface. The strait was flat calm — one metre or less on the marine forecast, glassy right out to the horizon with the Coast Mountains standing clear behind us. Visibility over 10 km. We fished the historic Tyee grounds off the southern tip of Quadra Island, trolling hoochies behind flashers with the downriggers set deep at 220 feet. Water temp read a warm 17.9°C and the fish were active. We worked the afternoon tide change around the Seymour Narrows slack, and when the current pushed the bait through, the bite turned on. Five Chinook kept and thirty released — a genuinely hot afternoon. The last quarter moon and a Good solunar rating had the fish feeding, with the best window lining up right around the tide change. Today's trip ran aboard our 27' Boston Whaler Conquest — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to four guests. We departed Coast Marina A Dock with free parking at Tyee Plaza. July and August are prime time on these grounds. Spots are filling fast. Book your Campbell River charter at **hidden content**

July 6, 2026
Discovery Passage delivered a memorable morning aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk. Captain Trevor ran the early 6 AM half day charter with two first-time anglers visiting all the way from Germany, and the fish did not disappoint. Conditions were prime. A warm 25°C day under overcast skies, light east wind at just 5 knots, and 10 km visibility across the channel. The marine forecast held seas at 1 metre or less, so we fished comfortable light chop the whole trip. The building flood tide, with slack before flood at 4:49 AM and the high at 9:30 AM, pushed bait into the main channel and turned the bite on. We trolled hoochies behind flashers on the downriggers at 100 feet, working the sweet spot in 17.9°C water. Fourteen Chinook came to the boat, chrome bright and healthy, with the best fish taping out to a solid 15 pounds. Most Chinook this season run 12 to 16 lbs with a shot at a trophy 30-plus pounder, and today's action was steady and generous. The last quarter moon and Good solunar rating lined up nicely with the morning tide. The Montauk is nimble and ideal for two anglers, a classic open boat experience for targeting specific spots. Full day on the water with Yvonne and Shane, and the fish did not disappoint. Nineteen salmon to the boat — a mix of Chinook and Coho — with a chrome bright 16 lb Chinook as the fish of the day. Conditions were made for it. We ran out of Coast Marina at first light under few clouds and 14°C air, a light WNW breeze at 6 knots, and 10 km visibility. Discovery Passage sat at one metre or less — an easy, forgiving chop that let us stay on the fish all morning. Warm 17.6°C surface water had the salmon up and feeding hard. We worked the green can with hoochies run behind flashers, downriggers set to 50 feet. The flood tide building to the morning high pushed bait through and the rods stayed bent. Best window was that early flood — first light to mid-morning — right when the fish were most willing. Most of our Chinook ran the honest 12-16 lb range typical of this run, with that 16-pounder as the standout. Every fish over the slot went back healthy to keep the run strong. We fish the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and premium electronics, comfortable for groups up to 4. Owner/operator experience, professional and personable, with all the local knowledge you'd want. July and August are prime for Chinook here, and the calendar is filling fast. It was a boys trip on the water today, and the Narrows delivered. Four salmon in the box, fifteen released, and a chrome bright 16 lb Chinook as the fish of the day. Watching two young anglers throw thumbs up over that fish is exactly why we do this. Conditions were rewarding. Air temp sat at 14°C with a few clouds and 10 km visibility. Wind was WNW at 6 knots, gusting to 25, and seas stayed at 1 metre or less — comfortable, fishable, easy footing on deck all morning. We trolled hoochies (plastic squid lures) behind flashers with downriggers set at 50 feet. Water temp was a warm 17.6°C, which pushed fish shallower and made that depth pay off. The action tracked with the tide — we worked around the 9:40 AM slack before ebb, and the bite firmed up as the current eased and bait stacked in Seymour Narrows. Most Chinook ran the classic 12-16 lb feeder class, with real potential at a trophy 30-pounder any cast. Solid, hard-fighting summer salmon. Today's crew fished aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest — heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to 4. The rain didn't slow anything down today. Full day salmon charter aboard our 27' Boston Whaler Conquest, morning departure out of Campbell River, with Laura joining us from Florida for her very first day on these waters. Conditions were classic summer grey. Steady moderate rain, 15°C, and a light southeast wind of 5 to 15 knots. Seas ran one metre or less, so we had an easy, comfortable ride with 10 km of visibility. The heated cabin earned its keep and kept everyone warm and dry between rods. We fished Tomic plugs on the downriggers between 80 and 120 feet. The bite came alive around the morning slack before ebb, when the current settled the bait and the fish moved up in the warm water. We limited out on chrome hatchery Coho, then hooked into a heavier Chinook that came up bright and thick and weighed 19 pounds — the fish of the day. Most Chinook this season run 12-16 lbs, with a real chance at a trophy over 30, so a fish like this one was a treat. Laura landed her first salmon in the rain and never stopped grinning. First-timers do beautifully here — everything you need is on the boat, and the fish do the rest. July is prime time and the calendar is filling fast. Book your trip today at **hidden content**.

What a way to spend an afternoon. Greg brought his 92-year-old dad, Gerald, out from Indonesia for their first-ever salmon charter on Discovery Passage — and the water delivered. We fished the afternoon into the evening bite aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest. Conditions were summer-fine: 13°C, bright sun, scattered clouds, and 10 km visibility. The forecast had northwest wind up to 30 knots in the strait, but seas stayed 1 metre or less and we found comfortable water in the lee. Warm 17°C water had the fish active. The method was simple and effective — trolling hoochies behind flashers with the downriggers down deep at 230 feet, around 2.5 knots. We worked the build into the 6:36 PM high tide, and with a Full Moon and an Excellent solunar rating, the feeding windows lit up. Twenty fish moved through the boat. We kept three and released seventeen to keep the run strong, including the day's headline — a chrome-bright 16 lb Chinook. Coho came through too. For a first day on the water, with three generations of memory in one photo, it doesn't get much better. What a morning on the water. Evan and Kaedn, a father-and-son team visiting from San Francisco, joined Captain Bruce aboard the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk for their very first Campbell River salmon trip — and the Coho did not disappoint. Conditions were classic June. Clear skies, 15°C, and 10 km visibility off the 6am departure. A WNW breeze around 8 knots kept things comfortable, gusting a touch in the open water, but seas held to a metre or less through Discovery Passage. We picked our sheltered seams and let the boat's nimble handling do the rest. The bite was steady. We trolled hoochies behind flashers — the Army truck pattern earning its keep — with downriggers set 80 to 120 feet over warm 16.8°C water. The Coho were active and shallow. By the time we ran lines back in, the count read 2 kept and 17 released, the best fish a chrome bright 7 pounder. The flood tide and the late-morning feeding window kept the rods bent. Between fish there were eagles overhead and sea lions on the surface — the full Discovery Passage show. For two first-timers, it was about as good an introduction to West Coast salmon fishing as we could ask for. Water temps are warm, fish are active, and the days are long — sunrise at 5:14 AM gives you a serious head start. We offer three departures daily: 6 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM, with free parking at Tyee Plaza. Spots are filling fast for June and July. Book your Discovery Passage adventure at **hidden content**

The Montauk is perfect for intimate 2-person trips, and Captain Trevor is great with first-timers and experienced anglers alike. June is heating up on Discovery Passage. 6 Chinook Released at Cape Mudge — Summe
6 Chinook Released at Cape Mudge — Summe
Nimble enough to target specific current seams and structure, with Captain Bruce's decades of local knowledge guiding every move. The 4-hour introductory format is ideal for visitors and first-timers — three departures daily at 6 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM. Summer Chinook fishing at Cape Mudge is firing right now. 8 Chinook Released in Discovery Passage
8 Chinook Released in Discovery Passage
June 2, 2026
The bait is in the passage, the water is warming, and the long June days give us three trip windows — 6 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM. Spots are filling fast for June and July.
The Boston Whaler Conquest holds up to 4 guests in comfort, departs from Coast Marina A Dock, and offers free parking at Tyee Plaza. Spots are filling fast for June. 12 Chinook Hooked and Released — Epic Ca

Spring Chinook fishing is firing right now in Discovery Passage. Full-day charters are available for groups up to four guests, departing from Coast Marina with free parking at Tyee Plaza. 5 Chinook Released at Cape Mudge — Sprin
5 Chinook Released at Cape Mudge — Sprin
May 24, 2026
Sunday, May 24, 2026 — Captain Bruce took the 17' Boston Whaler Montauk out of Coast Marina A Dock for the midday 4-hour trip, and Cape Mudge delivered a solid spring session.
