Some days the water just gives. Monday afternoon was one of them aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest with Captain Jason.
Conditions were textbook June: 22°C, broken clouds, light WNW wind around 5 knots, and clean 10 km visibility. The seas stayed at a metre or less — easy, comfortable water for the whole crew. With a new moon overhead and an Excellent solunar forecast, the timing was on our side. We worked the build toward the evening high tide, with slack before ebb at Seymour Narrows at 6:56 PM lining up perfectly with the bite.
We trolled hoochies behind flashers off the red can in Discovery Passage, running the downriggers deep at 220 feet. Water temp sat at a warm 16°C and the fish were active. Fifteen Chinook came to the boat — all released to keep the run healthy — including a chrome-bright 24-pounder, the biggest Chinook we've landed all year.
The Spragg family, visiting all the way from Australia, got the full Campbell River experience. It was young Owen's first time on the water, and he landed the fish of the day. As his family put it: "Owen said this is the best day of his life. He caught the biggest Chinook this year. Well done."
The Conquest is built for groups up to four, with a heated cabin, private washroom, and Starlink WiFi. Spots are filling fast for June and July. Book your trip today at **hidden content**
