Absolutely awesome trip with Captain John and Chris! We did the half-day trip out near Block Island and had an absolute blast. We caught a little bit of everything, including mackerel, sea bass, and scup. Then came the highlight of the day, hooking into a MONSTER shark. We battled that thing for almost half an hour before finally getting it up to the boat. Easily one of the coolest fishing experiences we’ve ever had. Captain John was great the entire trip, knew exactly where to put us on the fish, and made the whole experience fun from start to finish. If you’re looking for a great half-day deep sea fishing trip around Block Island, I’d absolutely recommend him. We’ll definitely be back!

My son was turning 13 and he wanted to go fishing with a few buddies. I booked a 6 hour trip with JL Charters for myself, my wife, and 4 12/13 year olds. The communication ahead of the trip was good - Captain John gave us a heads up on what’s been biting and my son got to customize our trip from there. We ended up heading off the shore of Block Island. we started by catching some mackerel (bait), then did some bottom fishing and got a bunch of black sea bass, then we used the mackerel to catch a 7 foot shark that we tagged (all 4 boys got to fight it!!!), and then we did some more bottom fishing before calling it a day. Chris, the first mate, was outstanding! Him and John had some great stories and did a great job helping us fish, fileting our keepers, and keeping us safe. We caught a TON of fish. We can’t wait to go out again!

John and Chris were excellent charter guides! John was proactive with communication before the trip and called us the day before the trip to confirm the booking and provide details on where to find him at the dock. We went out for an afternoon 6-hour trip on a Thursday. There was plenty of parking and locating the Jennifer Lee was easy. The boat was clean and John and Chris had everything ready to go when we arrived. We promptly left the dock at the scheduled time. We stopped first to catch some mackerel to use as bait later in the trip. We caught plenty with each cast before we were chased out of the area by a hungry seal looking for an easy meal. After catching mackerel we headed to the east side of Block Island with jigging reals to catch plenty of black seabass and porgies. After jigging on the east side of the island we headed south of the island for shark and striped sea bass. The sharks were plenty and after lengthy fight, we pulled in a ~7 foot brown/sandbar shark. We continued to try for a big striped seabass but kept hooking into sharks so unfortunately we weren't able to bring any big seabass but still had a great time trying. Both John and Chris provided helpful instruction and great conversation throughout the trip. We were traveling through on a road trip from PA throughout New England but if we ever find ourselves in the area again, I would definitely give John a call for another charter!

It is our third year we took fishing trip with JL charters (normally 1-2 times per year, it is kind of our must-do now in the summer). We always have fantastic times. The boat is very comfortable, with a cool, shaded seating area that made the trip relaxing even when the weather or the sea conditions are not perfect. The restroom is clean which is a huge plus. The fishing is always excellent, and we always catch good varieties of fish. The Captain John and Chris are friendly, knowledgeable, and work hard to help everyone have a successful day on the water. We would definitely recommend JL Charter to anyone looking for a great fishing experience in Rhode Island.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What an incredible experience with JL Charters! My wife, my sister, my brother-in-law, and I booked a half-day fishing trip, and it exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we left the dock, the captain was professional, friendly, and clearly knew exactly where to find the fish. We were on fish almost immediately and stayed busy catching them throughout the trip. We landed a great variety of species, including fluke, sea bass, scup, dogfish, and robin fish. We brought home more than enough fresh fish for an amazing dinner! A huge shoutout to our deckhand, Sean, who worked nonstop to make sure everyone had a great time. He was patient, knowledgeable, quick to help with baiting hooks, untangling lines, and making sure we were catching fish. His hard work and positive attitude really made the trip even better. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, the boat was comfortable, and the entire crew made us feel welcome from start to finish. Whether you’re an experienced angler or it’s your first time out, I can’t recommend JL Charters enough. We’ll definitely be booking another trip the next time we’re in Rhode Island.
