Depending on the time of year, you might hook into Dentex, Squid, Swordfish, Sailfish, Albacore Tuna, Bluefish, Great Barracuda, Red Grouper, Bluefin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Amberjack, and whatever else takes the bait. Depending on the species you're after, you may find yourself spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area.
Capt. Carlo believes in teaching kids to fish while they're young, so feel free to make a family day out of it! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. And, you can't go wrong with snacks!
Your boat for the day is a 25' Boston Whaler Outrage 25 center console with capacity for 2 passengers. It comes with all the essentials. Capt. Carlo will supply rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mates often work for tips and it's customary to offer them a 10–20% tip.
You will need to purchase a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
It's never a bad idea to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (non-spray). There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be some light snacks provided on board.
