Gatun Sportfishing - #1 Charter 

I absolutely loved my day fishing with Gutan sport Fishing — it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The boat was really nice and comfortable, and the captain was genuinely friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he does. There was plenty of action on the fly, with lots of runs that kept the day exciting and fun. On top of that, the lunch was excellent, which was a really nice touch. You honestly couldn’t ask for much more. The captain truly gives it his all and works incredibly hard to make sure you have the best possible day on the water. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a fantastic fishing experience.

This is my second time using this team - and let me tell you not disappointed at all. The captain is an AMAZING guy and communicates well with you right up until the day of your trip. Unfortunately he took ill and wasn't able to go out with us, but one of his other captains stepped in and it was still a pleasant trip - didn't catch as many fish as last time, but the scene, the peaceful ride, and the fish we did catch were whoopers!!!! I will be booking again and likely before the year is out - we did try for snook - no luck, but the Peacock Bass were plentiful.

great day with Gerardo and Gatun Sports fishing. My wife, son and I enjoyed a 9 hour trip. Fishing conditions were tough: hot and windy. But Gerardo put us on fish anyway. Equipment was super, provided food and cold beverages was wonderful. Fishing on the canal, hearing howler monkeys and catching peacock bass…amazing. gerardo’s communication was prompt and informative, and all logistics exactly as discussed. A great day.

Gerardo, owner of Gatun Sport Fishing is a first class owner, operator, and most importantly, person, whose English is outstanding! We did a nine hour sport fishing trip on the Panama Canal and its tributaries, on Lake Gatun. Everything was provided, from pick up and drop off at Dreams, Playa Bonita, to breakfast and a grilled boat lunch. Gerardo prepared two different kinds of steaks with dipping sauce and a Yuca, cheese filled bread, which is not really bread at all, but simply delicious. The steak was to die for, with an awesome roasted ginger-oil type topping to accent the steak and bread as you please. Best meal I had in Panama so far. Let’s get to the fishing. We caught around 45 or so Peacock Bass, with one being around 5 pounds. We also caught Oscars and a few other varieties of fish. If you’re going to fish on the Panama Canal, please call Gerardo and Gatun Sport Fishing. He owns four boats, with top-of-the-line Garmin, GPS’s, and Min Kota remote controlled salt water trolling motors. My wife and son fished mostly live bait. I prefer artificial lures, and he has them all. Also, top-of-the-line Shimano, spinning, and bait casting reels, spooled with 40 pound braid. He knows all the spots, so he will catch you fish, as well as an adventure of a lifetime with all the wildlife, from monkeys to parrots, to crocodiles and Caymans. Book with Gerardo, you will not regret it!

Wow just awesome everything delivered as promised, Everything on time, and highly recommended. Fished with fly, spinner, and live bait available if wanted. We literally caught hundreds of fish in 2 half days. Peacock bass with some trophy fish on fly and spinner. Snook and jacks on fly rod and spinner lures. Had schools of Tarpon rolling. Gerardo is a skilled fisherman who knows the water and area like the back of his hand. You will find him likeable and friendly. The boat was docked at the beautiful Gamboa Rainforest lodge, and it was comfortable, clean, and organized. It is set up for fishing only and not a ponga tourist boat like many guides use there. I can not express how happy we were with every aspect of the trip. There are absolutely no negative comments. Experienced fishermen will be more than satisfied, as well as opportunities for families and novices. Gerardo will patiently teach you how to fish these waters and is ecstatic to witness your successes. I have been on many fishing expeditions on Gatun as well as other locations, and nothing compares. The best trip of 65 years being a fisherman. If I have left something out it can only be positive. Book without trepidation with very reasonable rates.
