Chris, I appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, but there are a few things that need to be clarified. First, Alec was the captain on your trip. You knew before booking that I was fishing a tournament and were completely fine with Alec filling in. Alec is an outstanding fisherman, works hard for every client, and represents Crazy Eyes Guide Service at a very high level. What you may not know is that Alec and I were in contact throughout the entire day. He was checking in texting me, asking what I was seeing in the tournament, discussing fish locations, presentations, and adjustments to make based on the conditions. You weren’t just getting Alec’s knowledge that day, you were getting input from two experienced anglers working together to try to put you on as many fish as possible. Second, the conditions you fished in matter. The night before your trip we had high winds, heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and tornado warnings. Anyone who understands fishing knows that a major weather event like that can completely change fish behavior overnight. Then the day of your trip was dead calm. Not a ripple on the water. On Lake Winnebago, no wind means baitfish are not getting pushed onto reefs and shallow structure. No wind means the fish are not set up for the jigging bite you were expecting. In fact, you asked Alec if we ever jig, and he told you yes, absolutely, when conditions allow. Unfortunately, Mother Nature doesn’t care what technique we prefer. You booked a walleye trip, not a bass or fly-fishing trip. Our job is to put clients on fish using the most productive technique available for the conditions that day. Despite one of the toughest weather swings you can get, you still caught fish and described it as a decent day. What you called perch were actually white perch and white bass on the lines, that happens while trolling. White perch, white bass, and small walleyes often drag with almost no indication on the rod. Even experienced anglers miss them at times because there simply isn’t enough resistance to signal the rod. Could lines have been checked more often? Sure. But to suggest that was the reason for the outcome of the trip isn’t entirely fair considering fish were still caught throughout the day. Regarding fish cleaning, we do offer fish cleaning, but it is a paid service. On Lake Winnebago there are no fish cleaning stations, which means guides are responsible for disposing of carcasses properly, and spending additional time after the trip. Fish cleaning was never requested or discussed when the trip was booked, so Alec had no reason to assume that was something you wanted done. At the end of the day, your review acknowledges that the equipment was great, the captain did a good job, and fish were caught. The biggest disappointment seems to be that the fish weren’t caught the way you expected. Fishing isn’t about forcing our favorite technique, it’s about adapting to the conditions we’re given, and that’s exactly what Alec did. That said, I appreciate your business.
