I am a 3rd generation fisherman here in Fort Lauderdale. My dad is a fisherman, so I grew up in the charter fishing business... in fact, my parents actually met at the dock where I still work today. I fished alongside my father throughout my high school years, as a deckhand on fishing charters as well as fishing the Bahamas Billfish Champion Circuit every year. I got my captain's license the first month I turned 18 years old and have been fishing full time ever since.

Party Boat Fishing • 3 adults • 1 childWe had an amazing experience with Catch the Drift Boat Charter! We booked the trip as a family of three because our 12-year-old daughter absolutely loves fishing, and we wanted her to experience fishing on a charter boat. The trip description was very accurate. Whether you’re looking for a fun day on the water with family or friends, this is a great choice. Our daughter caught around five fish, and plenty of other people on the boat were catching fish too, so there was action throughout the trip. The crew provided everything we needed, including fishing poles, tackle, and bait, and they were incredibly helpful and informative. They were always nearby to answer questions, offer tips, and assist anyone who needed help, making the experience enjoyable for both beginners and experienced anglers. One feature we really appreciated was the air-conditioned cabin inside the boat. It was the perfect place to cool off for a few minutes before heading back out to fish. I would recommend bringing your own drinks, water, and snacks to stay refreshed during the trip. Overall, this was a fantastic family experience, and we’re so glad we chose Catch the Drift Boat Charter. We made great memories, caught fish, and had a wonderful day on the water. We would definitely book with them again!

Party Boat Fishing - 1:30 PM • 2 adultsMe and my girlfriend decided to go deep sea fishing 🎣 because she has never been before my main goal is for her to at least catch something on this trip and she caught two fish! which was all I needed to see! I also caught one my self we are pretty happy with even catching anything as we know going out that it's not guaranteed you catch anything. the crew was amazing and very informative and would definitely recommend! Also recommend you bring a cooler with beverages and possibly some ice packs to put on your neck or so as it is extremely hot and you feel half dead after the 4-Hour trip is done.

Party Boat Fishing - 1:30 PM • 2 adultsWe went out twice with this group (on the same day). We caught about 5 fish on the first outting and about 10 on the second. They do move locations if the fish aren’t biting. The captain and crews are AMAZING and incredibly helpful and friendly. Fish sizes are a bit on the smaller side from what you would expect, but we did catch some that were about a foot long. We also caught a barracuda which we were told was rare. So that was exciting. We saw others pull up an eel, rabbit fish, snapper, some type of fish with legs. The night fishing brought up some weird fish!

Party Boat Fishing • 1 adultIts amazing how the crew on this boat took care of the customers. The day i went out it was 6-8 foot seas with the occasional 10 footer and mostly everyone was over the sude the entire trip. The crew knew exactly what to do and gave them tips on how to feel better. Im pretty sure everyone caught a fish that day but with the elements it made it kinda hard for the beginners. I got myself 2 nice mutton snapper and a bubch of triggerfish. Amazing trip would 100% recommend to anyone trying to get out on the water with family for a low cost. Just check the weather beforehand.

Great winter time fishing!

This week has brought exciting action on the water, with anglers reeling in some fantastic catches both from the drift boats and sportfish boats.
Drift Boat Action: The drift boats have been on a hot streak, especially with snapper catches. Yellowtail snapper and mangrove snapper are abundant, with anglers reporting consistent action throughout the day. Even some big mutton snapper have been making an appearance, offering a thrilling fight for those lucky enough to hook one. Additionally, a few nice kingfish have been caught recently, alongside the fast and aggressive cero mackerel and Spanish mackerel, providing a variety of species to target.
Sportfishing Highlights: Sportfish boats are seeing a great mix of fish, typical for this time of year. Mahi mahi are still being caught in good numbers, while barracuda continue to give anglers a run for their money. Kingfish are still on the bite, and the bigger fish like amberjack are also proving to be a worthy adversary. Blackfin tuna are adding excitement to the action, with some nice-sized ones showing up in the catch reports. For those after a true challenge, the elusive sailfish and wahoo have started making there appearance in our waters. Big game sharks are also in the area, providing a thrilling experience for those targeting them.
It’s a fantastic time to be out on the water, with a great mix of species available for anglers of all levels. The weather has been cooperating, adding to the overall excitement of the season’s fishing opportunities.

Some Bigger Muttons Are Showing Up

Some nice mutton snappers are hitting the dock this week on our daily drift fishing trips. Mutton snappers are the biggest snappers we catch and February is generally a GREAT month to target them. For muttons, use a ballyhoo plug or any similar streamline bait that doesn't spin. Muttons are smart so you need to freespool to them to let them get that bait down their mouth before you set the hook. It can take some time to get a feel for hooking muttons but once you get it, it's easy! Plenty of yellowtail and mangrove snappers biting this week too. Let's go fishing!

Nice bite on some bigger fish this week

The larger migratory fish are starting to move through. Some big mutton snappers, decent sized kingfish and groupers/jacks on the bottom are providing some bigger catches mixed in with our good numbers of yellowtail snapper, porgies, grunts and triggers. Drifting and/or anchor fishing is doing well on all these bottom fish species as well as some pelagics too. We saw a whale on our trip yesterday which is really rare for south Florida. Whales usually have a full ecosystem of fish following behind them, so it is a really good omen. Sea ya out there!

Yellowtail snappers are snapping! Mutto

Nice catches of yellowtail snappers and mutton snappers are biting on our daily drift fishing trips out of Fort Lauderdale. In the winter months, snappers go shallow, so we're finding them on the 40ft ledge, right off the coast. Afternoon and night trips have been best lately, but that is always subject to change each day. Groupers too are biting good. Lots of other small to medium sized fish such as grunts, porgies and triggers are also among our daily catches. A rare kingfish or blackfin tuna may also be on the menu for the day. The Snappers Are Biting Good

Great snapper fishing this week on our morning and afternoon trips. Mutton snappers, the largest snappers that we catch here in south Florida, are biting good. September is always a favorite month here for the larger snappers and we get plenty of yellowtail and mangrove snappers biting too. October is another good month for the snapper fishery but September is my favorite. Most action on the mutton snappers is on the day trips, but the yellowtails and mangroves are biting better in the night time. Good luck to everyone out there on our trips this week.
