I have always been a keen fisherman. As a boy, I fished on the Gwendraeth for Sewin and Trout,etc. I had my first boat in the early '80s and since then have been building leisure fishing boats in the UK, striving to give the ordinary fisherman a strong, seaworthy, well-designed craft. A BSAC dive leader, my team produced dive ribs and ran a dive trip business in Pembrokshire. I caught my first Blue Marlin in Madeira and although I have fished in many countries, from that moment on I was hooked!

Big Game Marlin Fishing • 2 adultsIt was a great experience aboard Sorted. A big thank you to the captain and the mate, they were both incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional. The boat was clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything needed for a great day on the water. We had a few bites shortly after leaving the harbor, but unfortunately the fish came off the hooks. We did catch some fish, although not the species we were hoping for. That’s just part of fishing! Overall, we had a very enjoyable trip and would definitely recommend Sorted to anyone looking for a professional and enjoyable fishing experience in Madeira.

Big Game Marlin Fishing • 2 adultsI booked this trip specifically to target blue marlin, and Captain Alex and mate Jamie delivered. Both were friendly, communicative, and genuinely professional, true anglers who clearly love what they do. Sorted is set up properly for the job, with brand new Shimano Tiagras and top of the line marlin lures. Alex had been reporting the catches in the days leading up to our date, so expectations on catch probability were set accurately. Late in the day we hooked up and landed a 375 lb blue marlin. It put up a great fight. Unfortunately it got tail wrapped on the way in, and despite the crew's attempts to revive it boatside, we weren't able to release it. This fish was a bucket list catch for me, and the crew is the reason it happened. A nice bonus: a Bryde's whale surfaced near us while we were trolling. Fresh drinks, fruit, and snacks were offered throughout the day. As far as I'm aware, we were the only boat out of the Calheta marina fleet to land a marlin on our date. Huge thanks to Alex and Jamie. If I'm ever back in Madeira, I'll fish with them again without hesitation. Highly recommended.

Big Game Marlin Fishing • 3 adultsSadly we didn’t hook a Marlin. Our captain Alex did everything possible going above and beyond to try to get us a fish. Even so was a great trip and we will be back to try again.

Great day on the water, slow start fishing but stopped for a great lunch with swimming and diving off the boat. In the last hour we hooked a feisty blue marlin, on an 80lb rig and our proven tuna jet, got the fish to the boat and all of a sudden we were surrounded by a shoal of trigger fish, very feisty fish tested our captain aka wireman but released lit up blue.

Blue Marlin World Cup 4th July.

21 boats fished this out of Madeira, 160 boats world wide. We won this competition for australian clients in 2019. We fished this year with Andy and Alison from Somerset. The competition started at 8.30, at 10. 35 we hooked a lively 500+ Blue marlin, a qualifying fish for the comp. After a spectacular display at the back of the boat the fish went down and took 1 3/4 hours to get to the boat. We had to take the fish to be weighed and it came in at a respectable 557lbs. It was the fourth biggest fish in the world and the only fish qualifying in Madeira. The fish was donated to the Madeiran fisheries for scientific research.
It was a male fish previously males were only thought to reach a max of 350lbs, so maybe a record breaker in its own right.

Marlin Catching!

1st time boat fishing Steve and Lorraine joined us for a full day big game marlin fishing. The action started with a blue marlin that hit the long then took the shotgun strpped a hundred yard off the reel before pulling the hook. Half an hour later we had a white marlin hit the shotgun, bill wrapped and pulled the hook. Later in the day we had an explosion on the rigger lure, the fish went nuts at the back of the boat jumping across the spread all lit up and then coming straight at the boat. Expending all its energy in the first manic 5 minutes Steve had the fish to the boat in 15 minutes, he took to the chair like a pro!.

Jigging in idylllic waters

Absollutely beatuiful day with a lovely dutch family, we trolled to a jigging mark off the south west point off Ponta do Pargo. We caught a variety of fish including, pargo, garoupa, mahi mahi, grouper 12lbs and a 20lb amberjack.
