Captain Jack is the owner of Grocery Gettin Charters. Jack has loved to fish since he can remember and decided to turn that passion into a career. Jack started pursuing his dream when he was 18 years old and moved to Panama City Beach. His family has owned a home there since he was 2 years old, and he has been taking his family boat out alone since he was 14 years old. Captain Jack started as a mate on several different charter boats of all sizes. He eventually earned enough sea time to get his USCG captain's license. Jack has fished all along the coasts of Florida and has studied the industry religiously, gaining knowledge and experience to be the best captain he can be. Captain Jack most recently spent a year in Jacksonville, learning the northeast coast of Florida. He had an excellent season there, but decided it was time to move home to fulfill his dreams of creating, owning, and running his charter in Panama City Beach.

    Great 6 hour trip

    6 Hour Trip6 adults

Had a 6 hour trip with a party of 6. Captain Jack’s 30’ boat with twin 300 hp engines got us to the fishing grounds in quick order. We wanted to try the Red Snapper bite, and since Capt. Jack has a federal license we fished the federal waters for them, and quickly found success. We caught numerous Red Snappers, but had to release more than 14, which was still a great time. The trigger fish were also hot and we caught many doubles, and released at least 15. We also put a few beeliners in the box. The Little Tuna created contolled chaos several times and were huge and hard fighting. The sharks also came to eat as well, and snatched our baits several times, including at the very end where we took turns fighting a big one which eventually broke off. Captin Jack’s boat made easy time of the ride back, where he cleaned the fish, and we are preparing a feast as I type this recommendation! I would definitely fish with Captain Jack again, and you should see Captain Jack if you are interested in an off shore trip into the federal waters!

    Best fishing trip I’ve done

    8 Hour Trip

Captain Jack know what he is doing. He had us on the fish having us catch fish all day. We caught some big ones with his help. Very professional and very friendly. The stay at east bay fishing village that is included in the charter was amazing. Once we got back to the village Captain Jack filleted the fish and we cooked them fresh that night for dinner. We will definitely be going back and going fishing with Grocery Gettin and Captain Jack again. Highly recommend G

What's biting with Grocery Gettin Charters in Panama City

Dok turisti napuštaju grad, nikada nije bilo bolje vreme za dolazak. Lepo vreme donosi odličnu ribu, sa Wahoo ribom u dubokom moru, a Redfish, Pompano, list i skuša u priobalju.

Gearing up for red snapper

maj 9, 2025 • Grad Panama
Spring 2025 Fishing Report – Emerald Coast Captain Jack Whaley | Grocery Gettin’ Charters, LLC The season is off to an absolutely incredible start! This spring has been one of the best in recent memory. With rising temperatures, calm seas, and warming Gulf waters, everything is aligning for a fantastic fishing season. Conditions have been ideal, and the fish are biting consistently across the board. Whether we’re staying close to shore or heading offshore, every trip has been productive and exciting for our clients. Inshore fishing has been on fire. Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel have been cruising right along the beaches, especially during the early morning hours. These fish are hitting both artificial lures and live bait. Light tackle makes the fight even more exciting, and we've had plenty of double and even triple hook-ups. Offshore action has been just as rewarding. We’ve seen large pods of baitfish such as: cigar minnows, threadfin herring, and speedos gathering around the bayous in St. Andrews Pass and just off the beaches. These bait schools have been magnets for highly sought-after pelagic species, including Mahi, Wahoo, and Tripletail. The presence of Sargassum weed lines is growing offshore. These weed lines allow us to troll and sight-cast with great success, particularly when targeting Mahi. Clients have had a blast reeling them in, Mahi are not only beautiful with their vibrant blues and greens, but they’re known for jumping out of the water once hooked and their schooling behavior. Bottom fishing is holding strong, with hungry Triggerfish, Vermilion Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, and some impressive Grouper hanging around the reefs. Even with harvesting regulations in place, we’re seeing plenty of action and variety. Most trips see clients limiting out early, which gives us the opportunity to head farther offshore to give the clients the experience of fighting the bigger fish. Amberjack and Red Snapper always provided a memorable fight. Watching clients battle these giants is always a highlight of the season. For an exciting announcement, Red Snapper season is the longest ever recorded since regulations began with 126 days! June and July will be prime months, and we’re gearing up for non-stop action. As we roll into summer, we expect conditions to only improve. With more fishable days and the beautiful waters of the Emerald Coast as our playground, our mission remains the same: send every client home with big smiles, great memories, and a cooler full of groceries! Tight lines, Captain Jack Whaley

Grocery Gettin Charters 4/8

apr 21, 2025 • Grad Panama
Well, This past week was super windy but we were able to squeeze in a few trips! The Spanish mackerel bite was very productive and is some of my favorite fishing! The nearshore bite is still very hot right now, vermilion snapper and Trigger fish bite has been exceptional, as well as a few mangrove snapper and red grouper mixed in. The wind has finally laid down for us to get out into the gulf again and we are looking forward to bringing home the grocerys with you all! Let’s go load them up!

4/21/25 SPRING TIME ACTION

apr 21, 2025 • Grad Panama
Spring is upon us and the fishing is incredible! The 4hr and the 6hr trips seem to be the best bang for your dollar. Just enough time to get out on the water snd enjoy it while catching some groceries! The water clarity and water temperature is getting right where i like it. Never know what you might hook into this time of year! The Vermilion Snapper bite has been through the roof this spring. Chances of catching big mangrove snapper are good, red grouper are in season and they have been chewing. With the water temp now in the 70s, this has brought in the pleagic fish like, Mahi, cobia, spanish mackerel, and king mackerel. This is my favorite time of year to fish so hop on the boat with me and lets go catch you some dinner!

Well, after the snow and the cold fronts. The weather looks promising, we have caught lots of Red Grouper but most have been too small, have boxed a few though! Gag grouper bite has been on fire as well but they have all been released safely because they are not in season. The vermillion snapper bite has been steady the past week. The squid have moved in close and the boys off the pier have been catching them in solid numbers, which usually means the blackfin tuna aren't too far behind. water temps have been in the low 60's offshore and the fish are active. Trips will start getting booked up pretty quickly for spring and summer, so go ahead and book a charter trip and let us take care of the rest. Sit back and enjoy your fishing trip! - Captain Jack

Spring break

apr 9, 2025 • Grad Panama
Well, the weather has been getting much better. Had some really nice days this past week to get out on the water. The Vermilion snapper bite has been good and trigger fish as well now that they’re in season. If you’re looking for a good time, pulling on big fish, red snapper, red grouper, and gag grouper have all been a very good bite. Spanish mackerel have showed up in the bays in better numbers. Sheepshead and redfish to be caught in shore as well. Schools of Black Fin have been off the beach, along with a few kingfish mixed in. It’s a perfect time of year to get out on the water so book a trip and let’s go get you some groceries!
