My father started guiding inshore trips in the early 80s on Calcasieu Lake in Southwest Louisiana. In 1984, my parents started Big Lake Guide Service on Calcasieu Lake. I came along in 1987 and it seems like I've been in a boat ever since. As a child my parents employed up to 12 captains. As scary as it sounds, you could say I was raised by fishing guides, literally and figuratively. They were all like my older brothers. My parents somehow cultivated an environment of competition and respect on their dock. Competition amongst each other and respect for the customer, themselves, and the fish. They all strove to be the best on the dock every morning. The best fisherman, the best with customers, and the best conservationist. These lessons have stuck with me and I'll carry them until I'm long gone.

Focused Tide Window • 3 adults • 1 childWe have chartered with Captain Nick before and had a great time, but today was above and beyond. Nick got me and my 7 year old son on fish quick and we had a 2 person limit of trout in an hour. I have had some guides who pull up and head in, but Nick switched target species and kept fishing. Awesome experience with Captain Nick.

Focused Tide Window • 2 adults • 1 childHad a beautiful morning fishing near Dauphin Island with my 9 year old son. We were put on speckled trout immediately and the bite was hot and heavy. We both had a lot of fun and were able to bring home plenty of fish for a large gathering. Would highly recommend!

Extended Window (Standard Trip) • 2 adultswe had an amazing time. First class service, accomodations, knowledge and fish. We sight fished speckled trout and redfish while our Guide Mr. Jeff Poe pushed us around from his platform. We even caught and released some great flounder, saw somme sting rays and had an absolutely great experience. The scenery was as beautiful as anyone coud ask for and the service was even better

Focused Tide Window • 2 adultsHad a great fishing trip today with Captain Jeff Poe. We were into fish within 10 minutes, and limited out on trout, and caught several nice Red fish. We also caught Flounder, and 3 sharks. Highly recommend them.

Spring is starting to show.
Water temps are climbing quickly, and the trout are responding. It’s not wide open yet, but the bite is getting more consistent by the day.
Low water has fish positioned off the banks—edges, drains, and subtle depth changes have been key. When conditions line up, they’re feeding.
Soft plastics are leading the way right now. Long casts, clean presentations, and staying patient.
Redfish remain steady while the trout continue to build.
We’re right on the front edge of it—this is when it starts. Prime dates tend to go early as this bite opens up.

Spring Transition Starting – Trout Movin

Spring is starting to show along the Alabama coast. Water temperatures are slowly climbing and the trout are beginning their seasonal transition. Redfish have been steady, especially on calmer outings, and we’re seeing more baitfish activity each week. As we move deeper into March and toward April, conditions should continue improving and the bite should only get better.
