We had an incredible experience with Captain Jake at SaltnSun Charters in Marathon! We did two trips with him—one for lobster and another for reef and wreck fishing. Captain Jake hustled the entire time and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. He was especially great with our two small children, even surprising them with chocolate chip cookies! He also brought fresh mango and pineapple, which was an awesome touch. Great captain, great boat, and an even better experience. We’ll definitely be booking with Captain Jake again next time we’re in the Keys!

Booked a 4hour nearshoe trip in August. Jake was willing to extend to 6 hours but based on the heat he advised against it. Good idea. It was a very hot day but he did great keeping us cool with drinks, pineapple, and a dip in the water. Set the bait and helped reel fish in with still letting us feel part of experience. He cleaned fish and gave us a recommendation where to get it prepared. Took pictures through our trip for us. Trip was 4 adults, 2 kids ages 11/9. Based on the size of fish and reels, kids were not able to be hands on with all reeling.

We chartered an 8 hour reef trip with Cap Jake and it was a tough day for fishing in general. Jake was very knowledgeable throughout the entire trip and was well prepared. He worked his butt off trying to put us on fish all day. Most impressive was when our trip was scheduled to end, he wasn’t satisfied with what we had caught and spent an additional 2 hours to try a few more spots. We ended the day with a nice variety and the beat recommended spots to prepared our fresh catch. Highly recommend Captain Jake!

Some of us in the family love to fish, some do not. On this the boat with Calt Jake, these differences disnt matter. Capt Jake made things fun and engaging for everyone despite their previous experience. He was punctual. He was knowledgeable. All he asked us to do was to show up and have a good time. We did get hooked up on some fish (didnt limit out) but that was ok by us. We had fun, had some fish for dinner, and most importantly…. made some memories as a family.

We had an amazing day on the water with Captain Jake! We chose a reef and wreck trip after having a tough day on the water with another charter. From the start Jake was enthusiastic and funny, and made sure everyone caught fish and had fun! We hooked into a Grouper (back to the ocean :)) and a 200 pound shark. Our boys are still talking about how much fun they had, and asking when we can go back to fish with Jake. Highly recommend.

We had an absolutely amazing time on our fishing charter with Captain Jake! From start to finish, he made the whole experience fun, exciting and unforgettable. He was especially great with my 12-year-old! He was super patient, encouraging, and made sure he was having a blast the entire time! We limited out on tuna, caught mahi and even saw a great white!! We caught a ton of fish, learned a lot, and created memories we honestly will never forget. Huge shoutout to his first mate Bryan as well, he was awesome, super helpful, and kept everything running smoothly all day. When we were done fishing Captain Jake even recommended a lovely dinner spot where we could bring the freshly filleted fish we just caught and have it cooked the same night, it was incredible! You can really tell he cares about what he does and goes above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great time. Highly recommend booking with him if you’re looking for an awesome day on the water. We will definitely be back!

We booked a full day of deep sea and reef fishing for Easter Sunday. It was a little windy, but not too rough. Captain Jake was great and tried to keep everyone comfortable while we headed out to the fishing spots. My teens loved the bean bags! We all had a fantastic day catching lots of snapper, giant grouper (Goliath and black fin - but had to throw back since not in season), a huge moray eel, parrot fish, and puffer fish. Captain Jake kept all the lines running and had all 4 of us fishing all day. He took pics and sent them to me after. We had a couple big ones that took lots of fight and he was great with our kids, guiding and encouraging them with some good natured teasing thrown in to keep everyone laughing. We caught enough snapper for our Easter dinner and Jake cleaned all of our fish for us and sent us home to cook up a delicious dinner. We had a wonderful day!

We went out today for a four hour reef trip in the morning. It was a great morning with my wife and two boys along with my brother in law and nephew. On the way out Captain Jake was joking with our boys(9,6 and 6) about just going to the sandbar and not fishing. They got a good chuckle out of it. We arrived at our spot and dropped anchor. The kids caught fish immediately and they were thrilled! From there things took a turn south as all three kids and my wife became a bit sea sick (not Captain Jake’s fault) so myself and my brother in law fished away! I wasn’t able to get anything in the boat for our dinner but did catch a 50lb Goliath Grouper, since it’s protected we had to throw it back but was a really cool experience. Despite the illness the trip was amazing! Highly recommend Saltnsun!

We were looking for a captain that would be a good fit for taking our whole family fishing, with a 10 and 13 year old. Captain Jake had good family reviews and he didnt disappoint. It was really rough waters, but Jake knew where we could go to keep the boat as stable as possible and we caught a ton of fish. Jake worked his butt off just keeping each rod baited and collecting our catch. I didnt get to count them all, but I’m sure we ended up with 30-35 keepers, which Jake fileted for us. Jake has clearly been doing this his whole life and capable of taking out a group like ours just excited to catch fish, or anglers looking for specific fish. He was great with all of us, including the kids. Highly recommend!

My family and I went out for the 8 hour day trip. Captain Jake put us on fish all day and was great with my 6 and 9 year olds. He is very knowledgeable and had a great attitude the entire trip. We loved the trip and would recommend it to anyone. We will definitely use this charter again next time we are in Marathon. We caught over 50 fish throughout the day and ended up with 3 large plastic bags of fillets at the end of the day. It was my 9 year old's birthday and he is already planning for his birthday next year with Captain Jake!
