September delivered. William and Pat, brothers down from Washington on their first trip with us, joined Captain Jason aboard the 27' Boston Whaler Conquest for an early morning start in Discovery Passage.
Conditions couldn't have been better. Clear sky, 13°C, and a light west wind at just 7 knots. Visibility ran a clean 10 km and the seas stayed under a metre — flat, easy water for a morning of trolling. Bright, calm, and comfortable.
We ran hoochies behind flashers deep on the downriggers at 220ft, right in the feeding zone. Water temp sat at a warm 16.5°C, and the fish were on it. The bite built through the morning as the tide moved bait through the main channel, and it lined up perfectly with an EXCELLENT solunar forecast — the major feeding window ran 9:43 to 11:43 AM, and that's when it fired.
Fourteen Chinook to the boat. Most were solid 12-16 lb feeders, with the best of the day a trophy pushing 22 lbs. This is Tyee season in Campbell River — the time of year when a real bruiser is on the table.
The Boston Whaler Conquest kept us comfortable all morning: heated cabin, private washroom, Starlink WiFi, and room for up to four guests. A perfect boat for a brothers' trip.
