Getting a good fishing trip on this website can be daunting, however I stumbled across a crew that was nothing short of amazing and I’m so glad I did. Firstly I had two days set aside for a fishing trip and of course I waited until a couple days prior to start looking. I went through 4-5 other charters all declining my trip request, again my fault for waiting a few days before to book. When I got to Bay Breeze they weren’t my first choice because they were not the closest as we were staying in Miami Beach. I requested a trip and Cpt Chris was the only Cpt that reached back and said that he couldn’t do it my requested days but had the following day (Friday) wide open or he could help me find another charter that could work in my schedule. That right there showed me he was willing to go the extra mile. I let him know I’d reach back out, it didn’t take me long and I moved our other plans around and booked him for a 6hr morning trip. At the beginning of the trip the Cpt asked us what kind of fishing we wanted to do, my main concern was making sure my son had fun and that I caught something of size- this detail comes in later. Chris and Jack (1st mate) made my 10yo autistic son (I’ll mention why I bring this up later) and I feel very welcome. Firstly they were 30 minutes late picking us up at the dock, which they more than made up for in the end of the trip. Btw it wasn’t their fault, there was an issue with a draw bridge. Just after setting off they had my son help out with catching live bait for our fishing. My son had a blast doing this. My son can be somewhat hard to work with as he needs very direct, specific directions in order to accomplish what he needs to do. Jack was amazing as working with my son, I didn’t have to let Jack know about him but he must have figured it out because he was getting my son catching bait fish (up to a foot long) quickly and efficiently. I spoke to the Cpt about my son while they were doing this and he was able to adjust the type of fishing we were doing to best fit him. After that we trolled for a while, it was stagnant but I know that’s how fishing can be. The Cpt decided get on a wreck and within minutes we were catching amberjack- nearby boats had been there a while and weren’t catching anything and their faces let us know it lol. We did that for a bit and then trolled to the next wreck, during which we caught a few barracudas. Once at the wreck we caught a few more AJs and called it a day with that. When I thought we were done Cpt Chris sped off to a bouy not far from where we started, in about 300’ of water. Jack started rigging up something that was odd and I realized it was wire. I asked him are we shark fishing, he smiled and asked if I was ok with that. Mind you at this point it’s almost to the 6 hour mark with the made up 30 minutes from the beginning. I let Jack know I’ve always dreamed of catching a shark, he said let’s try to make dreams come true! Here’s the mind blowing part, there’s no way the crew could have or did expect this to happen. Jack cut up one of the barracudas we had, rigged it to a pole and dropped it in near the bouy. Within 30 minutes I had reeled in a 97” nurse shark. It took the Chris, Jack and myself to haul it abroad to get measurements and pictures. I was at a loss for words. We then released the shark and headed for the dock. When done Jack filleted an AJ per my son’s request and they both directed us to a nearby restaurant that would prepare it for us. Now I’m not going to say that these guys will get you on amazing fish every trip out or land you a monster shark, but they will take care of you. Safety and satisfaction were top priorities for them, I know they’ll do what is needed for you. So if you’re looking for a well priced, customer focused charter in the Ft Lauderdale area then at the very least talk to Chris as I’m confident he’ll get you taken care of or pointed in the right direction. I will rebook with him when we plan our visit back.
