Tarpon are powerful sport fish known for explosive jumps and long runs. In the Bahamas, clear flats, warm tides, and vast mangrove shorelines make them a top target. You can spot fish cruising in shallow water, then place a cast and watch the silver flash.

Most anglers sight fish on the flats using spinning or fly fishing gear. Guides pole skiffs across skinny water so you can see the fish before you cast. Popular setups include live bait like mullet or crabs, soft plastics, and 8–10 weight fly rods with sturdy leaders. In deeper channels and tidal creeks, drifting baits or slow-trolling also works well.

Charter trips usually run half day or full day and focus on tide windows. Captains provide local knowledge, tackle, and safe boat handling. This experience suits beginners who want coaching and seasoned anglers chasing a personal best. Wear sun protection, polarized sunglasses to spot fish, a hat, and quick-dry clothing. Bring snacks, water, and a camera for those jump shots.

The Bahamas offers broad Tarpon habitat across many islands. Productive areas include the flats and backcountry of Andros, Bimini, Grand Bahama, and Abaco. You can also find fish around the Berry Islands, Eleuthera, and the Exumas, especially near mangroves, channels, and cuts with moving water.

Before you go, check local rules on fishing licenses, boat permits, seasons, and harvest. Regulations can change by island or area. Many anglers choose catch and release for Tarpon. Your captain will explain current guidelines and best practices on the day of your trip.

(Half Day Trip – Light Tackle)

Fun trip with a lot of action

Picked up by Señor Frogs. Captain Charles and mate Bob were super friendly and fun to fish with. Bob helped out my girlfriend through out the trip since she’s not really into fishing. Caught triggerfish, grunts, yellowtail snappers, a nice Nassau grouper and a bonus mutton snapper.
