Captain Daryl Carpenter is the owner and operator of Reel Screamers Guide Service. He has fished the freshwater spillways of south Louisiana since he was a boy. His desire to catch bigger fish had led him to the banks of the Gulf of Mexico where he found his personal haven and the bass boat was quickly sold. He then started the charter and grown it to a 3 boat operation offering inshore and nearshore trips.

He was a patient and competent teacher. Our family loved the experience, we will definitely be back. Give Daryl a call and talk to him you'll quickly realize he's the real deal, Cajun fish master.

Fall Fishing Explosion

Our fall bite was a little late getting started but now that it is here it is living up to expectations. As the last of our shrimp start their migration out of the marsh, the fish instinctively move in to ambush them and fatten up for the winter. When you find any drain coming out of the marsh where there are shrimp, you will find fish. When you find the schools of reds they are usually just that schooled up and fighting each other for food. Seagulls diving on the water tells you that a school of trout are harassing the shrimp. Catch them fast before they move on and it makes for some really fast action. You need to work around the fronts that roll through this time of the year but fall is quickly becoming my favorite time of the year to be on the water.

For the 4th day in a row we had the Oliver family on the boat. Today was a day dedicated to red fishing and it proved very productive early this morning with several reds in the box before 10AM. But with the rising tide and the effects of the full moon the bite slowed by mid morning. We were still able to put together a nice box of South Louisiana fish that will find its way to Colorado freezers. Both days we have fished late because we needed to, unlike others advertised here we are a full time guide service, we will not cut your trip short because we have yards to cut or maintenance contracts on seasonal camps to maintain.
Special thanks to Nauti or Knot charters for handling the offshore part of this, week long venture since I was out of the offshore game from a recent surgery.

Its Trout Season

The Speckled Trout have really shown up and are in high gear. We have everything from easy numbers of smaller fish to some of the trophy fish when we can get to the beach areas to look for them. Yesterday was one of those trips where they did not care about numbers but wanted larger fish. Check out this 5.6 pound lunker of a trout caught bby this young 76 year old Colorado native who spent a few days with us.

Preseason Trout
Feb. 23, 2017 • Grand Isle
Blake manned the inshore boat today. Unlike the last week where we had low water and packs of redfish cruising the mud flats. Blake found today a south wind with higher water, thus had the reds scattered back into the marsh but the change turned the trout on. Blake found trout on plastic schooled around spots that you would not expect to catch fish until next month. There were plenty of undersized fish mixed in with boat riders that came home with us today. There was great company on the boat as this Indiana couple sought warmer temps and good fishing and that is what they found in South Louisiana. With the warmest winter we have had in years, it looks like it is going to be a wonderful trout year. Come see us.
