We had a fantastic charter out of Juneau today! The weather was typical Southeast Alaska—off and on wet—but it never turned into a full downpour, and the boat handled the mildly choppy waters incredibly smoothly. Along the way, we were treated to some amazing wildlife sightings, including Bald Eagles, Dall’s Porpoises, and even a whale spout.
What really set this trip apart, though, was the crew. Honestly, this was one of the best charter crews I have ever fished with.
Deckhand Ibra was incredibly personable, patient, and helpful from start to finish. He kept everyone taken care of and made the day run seamlessly.
Captain Ben was top-tier. He has a great personality, a quick sense of humor, and kept everyone’s spirits high and encouraging even when the bites slowed down. What I appreciated most was his initiative to teach us a bit while we fished—he explained how and why the downriggers worked, shared insights on current local fish management strategies, and taught us about the different species. When we did hook into something, his enthusiasm was contagious.
As for the catch, our boat of five landed four halibut, one chum salmon, and one very large king salmon. While we had hoped for a few more bites, some days are just like that, and the crew did everything they could to put us on the fish.
Overall, it was a thoroughly pleasant experience, and I would highly recommend booking a trip with Captain Ben and Ibra. We’d absolutely fish with them again!
