Fishing with Nick
Oscar charted a 3/4 offshore trip, he state he wanted to catch yellowtail and Dorado. I stated that finding kelp Patties that are hold yellowtail and Dorado are a lot of looking and patience. I told him that my last we got a rare Blue Marlin for California. He indicated that he want to try for Marlin. We stared the trip with full tank of live sardines, stop at local water there we catch mackerel for the bait for the marlin. Catching 10 to 12 calico bass and 10 mackerel for the marlin we headed to to were I catch the blue Marlin from my last trip. On the way to the fishing grounds with trolled for tuna under a porpoise school and stop on a couple of kelp patties that we’re holding any fish. When reaching the fishing grounds we’re hook a tuna or marlin that hit the lure, but did not stick. Put out 2 live mackerel for Marlin or tuna. We saw 2 other Marlin jump off in the distance. After about a hour of trolling he wanted to go back to where we caught the calico bass. This is where patience was needed. I was metering fish, but they just weren’t coming up to bite yet. So we pull the live mackerel in and put fast trolling lures, still trying to catch fish. Once I got out of fishing grounds I pulled all of line in so I could give him time to catch more calico bass. I had told him that I had an afternoon charter and I had to be back by 1:30 for my next charter at 2:00. That gave me just enough time to clean his and clean up the boat. I think me was upset that we started catching a lot of fish when we had to go back. We had only 15 minutes between charters. We did our best to find the fish, but if they don’t want to bite that is we’re patience is needed. I burn a lot of extra fuel so they could catch more fish at no extra cost to them.
