Belize is world-famous for its incredible underwater coral reefs. As well as being stunning to look at, they also offer up some seriously exciting fishing! With species such as Snappers, Groupers, and even Mahi Mahi calling these waters home, you’ll need an experienced guide to explore them. Placencia Fishing Charters’ Placencia-born Captain Leslie Faux is just the guy for the job!
Capt. Leslie’s passion for angling started when he was a child. He grew up in a family of fishermen: his brothers, step-father, and grandfather are all keen anglers, and their love for the sport definitely rubbed off on him. He takes pride in what he does, and loves introducing guests to these incredible waters, and the colorful fish that call them home!
You’ll be casting off from your captain’s 23’ Isabal Marine Lanchon skiff, perfectly built to explore these waters. She can accommodate up to 6 guests, so invite along your best angling buddies, or make this a family trip to remember. Children are warmly welcomed aboard! Your vessel is also decked out with top-quality navigational and safety gear, meaning you’ll have a secure and comfy journey to the reefs.
Reef fishing in Placencia means coming face-to-gills with a whole host of colorful, tasty fish. Depending on the trip you opt for and the time of year you visit, you’ll have the chance to target prized species such as Snappers, Groupers, Barracuda, Amberjack, and even Mahi Mahi. Capt. Leslie will have you trying out a range of techniques to hook your catch, including popping, jigging, and bottom fishing.
Your trip includes top-quality Penn, Ugly Stik, and Yuzuri rods and reels, as well as braided-line tackle – this will come in handy if you find a huge hard-fighter at the end of your line! Your captain will also provide a fishing license for your group, as well as snacks, drinks, and lunch on the full day trip.

Our first trip to Belize was great. The cold weather wasn’t ideal, but we were put on fish everywhere Edlin took us. His local knowledge is second to none. We had shots at snook, tarpon and bonefish. The bonefish bite was hot for a while, the tarpon and snook weren’t as willing, but that’s fishing. The seas were rough and we safely navigated our way out to some beautiful flats and had an absolute blast sight fishing for bones. I was having trouble seeing them and Edlin has eyes like an osprey and taight me what to look for. I lost count of how many we landed.

Captain Edlin put us on lots of fish. Reef fishing was excellent: Spanish Mackerel, Red Snapper, Jacks, Barracuda. We fed ourselves and many locals for several days. Outstanding!

In very testing rain, Edlin did fantastic job avoiding it as much as possible with a great experience in the lagoon and mangroves of the Belize jungle. Did get the tarpon in the boat, but fun with Snook at the end of the day made for a great day with a captain who was great fun to spend time with on the water. Thanks Edlin for a memorable day 😁

What an awesome place! It was our first time to Belize and did not have a clue who to go out with but we lucked out and booked the right guide. Edlin was an awesome guide who is a die hard fisherman. Told him I wanted to do spinning gear for bonefish, tarpon and maybe get lucky with a permit and we landed all three species for a Grand Slam. The trip exceeded my expectations and I wish I could have gone out for another day.
