Tarpon are powerful game fish known for wild jumps and long runs. Along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, they follow warm water into the Mississippi Sound and the barrier islands. Anglers come here for sight fishing chances and unforgettable fights close to shore.

Guides target Tarpon by sight casting along island beaches, bay mouths, and passes, which are channels between islands. Live bait like mullet, menhaden, and crabs works well. Spinning, conventional, and fly fishing with large streamers also produce. Crews use strong tackle, circle hooks, and long fluorocarbon leaders to handle sharp gill plates and quick turns.

A typical charter leaves early to beat the wind and find rolling fish. Expect quick moves, careful boat positioning, and patient waits for a window to cast. Fights can be long, with big, acrobatic jumps. This trip suits keen first-timers with guidance and seasoned anglers chasing a challenge. Captains usually provide rods, reels, and bait, and they coach you through every step. Bring sun protection, polarized glasses to spot fish, snacks, and a camera.

Mississippi’s best Tarpon action centers on broad zones, not single spots. The Mississippi Sound, the beaches and passes around Cat Island, Ship Island, and Horn Island, and the mouths of the Pascagoula and Pearl Rivers all draw fish. Productive days often follow clean, warm water and steady weather.

Before you go, check Mississippi’s fishing license, permit, season, and harvest rules for Tarpon. Regulations can change, and your captain will follow current state and federal requirements. Many anglers practice careful catch and release for this prized sport fish.

    (8 Hour- Chandeleur Island)

Two day trip with Captain Eli!

By far the best captain, fisherman, and person I’ve ever fished with. He put us on fish constantly, if the trout weren’t biting we smashed redfish and sharks and broke off some big tarpon! I’d say the gulfs best inshore guide out there. His knowledge of saltwater fishing and boating is unmatched. Will book again asap!

    (3/4 Day Trip)

    Great Day On The Water

We went out with Captain Evan today and had a wonderful trip. Caught a bunch of Atlantic sharpnose sharks. A triple fin. A bunch of different species of fish. And then the one that got away. Huge fish that jumped out of the water and did a long distance catch and release. I’ll say it was a tarpon. Evan was great, very dynamic Captain, not afraid (or lazy) to move around to put us on the fish. He has tons of local knowledge and is a chill guy just doing what he loves.

Great time and really nice crew!

The fishing was good. We went with no real plan, we just wanted to get on the water for a few hours. They put us on a hot spot for White Trout and it was non stop. They kept a big pole out also and we pulled in several small sharks. I also really enjoyed their company. Great time. Do it!

    (4 Hour Trip – Inshore)

    Best birthday ever

we caught 12 different kind of fish . it was my first time on a charter and i had a great time. Ryan was very knowledgeable about all the fish, and took us to 3 different areas in our 4 hour trip. Although my husband had a bad experience with a charter in Utah he said it was well worth the money we spent with Ryan. Thank you.😁
