Fort Lauderdale Charter Fishing Report – Week of 7/4/26
Marlin My Darlin Sportfish Fleet
Overview
The South Florida charter fishing scene is strong across the board. Over the last week to 10 days, wahoo have been roaring along the reef, delivering both big trophies and plenty of consistent action. Trolling has been a standout technique, with sea grass conditions allowing for productive battles most days. We’re also seeing solid activity from mahi-mahi, blackfin tuna, kingfish, mackerel, sailfish, and other top-class gamefish, making for exciting all-around inshore and offshore action.
Wahoo
- The wahoo bite has been phenomenal along the reef. We’ve landed multiple big fish, with a healthy mix of smaller 20–30 lb specimens.
- In addition to wahoo, expect strong trolling opportunities across the charter fleet. Sea grass has been a common factor this season, but when conditions allow, we’ve found excellent trolling results.
Mahi-Mahi
- Offshore mahi-mahi fishing is becoming more consistent. Large weed patches are prevalent, and while one in ten patches holds some action, the bite can be productive when you locate the right pockets.
- The mahi population is developing nicely for the early part of summer. Expect fair to good catches on reliable offshore trips.
Shark Fishing
- Shark fishing has been outstanding, with big hammerheads, bull sharks, lemon sharks, and even a few threshers showing up in recent weeks.
- Summer is a peak time to chase trophy sharks, and many trips report heavy pulls and exciting runs that make for memorable escapades on the water.
Bottom Fishing
- Snapper and grouper activity on the bottom has been a touch light lately, particularly on daytime trips.
- Night fishing has been especially strong, with deep-water snappers like yellowtails, blackfin snapper, and even American red snapper appearing on the bite.
Swordfish
- Swordfish fishing at night remains excellent. Daytime efforts have been slower, but nighttime anglers report consistent catches ranging from 50 to 250 pounds.
- South Florida remains one of the premier year-round swordfishing destinations, drawing anglers from around the world to chase these elusive giants.
Conclusion
South Florida charter fishing remains very strong and one of the best times of the year to get out on the water with family, friends, or colleagues. We’ve seen consistent fishing with plenty of action and a good number of fish to take home for dinner on recent trips.
