Cod are classic New England Groundfish, and Rhode Island puts you close to them. Cold, nutrient-rich waters around reefs, ledges, and wrecks hold Cod through much of the cooler season. Anglers come for steady action and firm, delicious fillets.

Most trips target Cod with bottom fishing and jigging. Bottom fishing means presenting bait near the seabed, where Cod feed. Crews often use clams or squid, plus metal jigs with a teaser above the lure. Stout rods, braided line, and sensitive leaders help you feel light bites and lift fish from rough structure.

Charter days are straightforward and fun. You’ll ride out to reefs, ledges, or wrecks, then drop baits and jigs as the captain holds the boat over fish. This is great for first-timers and seasoned anglers alike. Dress in layers, wear non-slip shoes, and pack snacks, water, and sun protection. Most captains provide tackle and bait, and they can clean your catch after the trip.

Rhode Island offers prime access to Cod grounds in Rhode Island Sound and beyond. Block Island’s surrounding ledges, the mouth of Narragansett Bay, and offshore wrecks are traditional producers. Crews may also run to broad structures like Coxes Ledge when conditions allow. These areas combine rocky bottom and strong currents that Cod love.

Before you go, review Rhode Island saltwater fishing rules. Check current license and permit needs, including any federal requirements if your trip enters offshore waters. Confirm open seasons and harvest rules, which can change. Your captain can guide you, but it’s always smart to verify the latest regulations.

    (6 Hour Trip - Inshore)

Full day in big seas and gusty wind

Cap brought us to some spots that were protected from the wind and waves on a nasty day. We pit a creat catch together of tog/cod/seabass. Mate and Cap are fantastic. This was our second season fishing this boat and many more to come

    (4 hour trip)

    Excellent charter and captain.

The boat was great, Don knew some great spots, we hauled in a lot of fish, and as a bonus Don told some great stories about his time at sea and as a tugboat captain. Highly recommended.

    (Half Day Trip)

    Action for days.

Great trip out with best captain and crew you can find in Point Judith. Non stop bites and fish on the line. Dave kept us in the right areas. We got to see a massive bluefin tuna actively eat the floater fish left behind by the scraper boats. They taught us about safety and regulations as well.
