Captain Vinnie operates the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and has worked aboard other boats in the area all his life. He loves being out on the water and getting groups on awesome fish. His favorite fish to catch is Black Grouper, but a huge part of what makes fishing so fun for him is never knowing what is going to bite next. This is what makes bottom fishing so fun for him - you can never tell what will take your bait!

Captain treated us to some Kite fishing as the water was extremely rough. Even with the rough seas he put us onto some sail fish and feisty barracudas. Our goal was to get a mahi for dinner and guess what, a solid one as big as the cooler hit the lines. We left this trip fully satisfied and will certainly book this again with hopefully better water condition. I would love to jig for snapper next time! Do not pass up this experience!

Captain Vinnie knows where to go to get fish and first mate John knew how to teach us to catch them - he was superb all trip. My wife and i were in town for the World Cup and decided to charter a boat for a new experience and are glad we went with Y B Normal. Whilst we have done a little fishing before back in Scotland, this was different and great fun - black fin tuna, barracuda, mahi mahi and a wahoo kept us busy. Charter only but well worth the cost. Easy to find at Dania Beach Marina.

The waters were on the choppy side, but he had given us adequate notice of this the night before so everyone in our party took some dramamine prior to the trip and had no problems. Captain Vinnie did a great job finding the fish and his mate JT was awesome helping us! We caught mostly blackfin tuna but in the last 30 minutes we got a wahoo and a mahi mahi! He fileted those for us and gave us a restaurant recommendation where we took our fresh catch. We had them prepared 3 ways... fried, blackened, and sashimi style. All were delicious! We would definitely do this trip again and recommend Vinnie and JT to anyone!

I went with my two kids, and the entire trip was perfect from start to finish. The captain and deckhand were outstanding — extremely professional, friendly, and great with the kids. They worked nonstop to make sure we had a fun, exciting, and successful day on the water. I can’t recommend this company enough. If you’re looking for a professional crew, great vibes, and a truly memorable family fishing trip, this is the one to book. We will definitely be coming back!

We stayed ontop of a huge school and caught 15+! I went with my two boys (8 and 10). It was their first deep sea trip and it was a memorable one. I can’t thank the crew enough. I would highly recommend YB Normal!

Labor Day Deep Sea Fishing

Hello there, Capt. Vinnie here with another Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report. This week has been a little bit of a tricky one, afternoon showers have been scaring a lot of people off from wanting to go deep sea fishing right now but the truth is, getting an early start like 7am can keep you in the fish and home in time to get you out of the weather. Now September is a month that is notorious for slow business here but it tends to have the best fishing of the whole year, which in terms makes that better for you the consumer. For the fishing report this week there has been a great bite inshore on kingfish. Kingfish is a very popular fish with a good amount of our customers. Its very good to make smoked for fish dip as well as blackened or fried. These fish have been very prevalent early in the mornings as shallow as 100 feet and have been biting best on our baits fished under the surface. Next species that has been good is blackfin tuna on early mornings, depths around 200-300 feet is where we have been fishing. The blackfin tunas like lures fished a little faster and a little further behind the boat, the most important thing is to not slow down when you get a bite, tunas are a schooling fish and keeping your same speed at the time of a hook up can result in multiple hook ups. Blackfins have been anywhere from 5-15lbs. We are just coming off of a full moon and that means wahoo, there has been a few nice wahoo as a
"by- catch" while fishing for species like tuna. The outgoing tide in the early morning is going to give you the best chance at getting that trophy wahoo. Same depths as the tuna is where your going to want to be focusing most of your time, there has been a few bigger ones in the 30lb range but majority have been 18-25lbs. Another species that has been around and is always a pleasure is sailfish. These guys always bring joy to any anglers face with there fast runs and acrobatic jumps, primarily our sailfish season is winter to spring but we are seeing a nice little fall run right now, trolling has been the best option for all types of gamefish being there has been very light winds and a steady current. It is important to pay attention to surface baits with sailfish being around because you want to see the bite before they actually eat it. A lot of times sailfish will whack a bait with there bill and if there is no reaction they will loose interest quick, so its very important for the deckhand to notice that and reel the bait away to get that predator instinct. Late August Deep Sea Fishing In Fort Lau

Hey there Capt. Vinnie here, back again with another great Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report. For this week the weather has been excellent besides the heat, we have had some really nice flat calm seas and there has been some fish biting as well. The seaweed this week has seem to slowed down and given us somewhat of a break which intern lets us fish the way we know how to, on the inshore side of things the bonitos or little tunny have been in full force early in the mornings while trolling most depths inside of 150 feet have had great numbers of these fish, fishing with planners to take baits below the surface is going to keep your bait in the strike zone the longest. The best lure choice this week has been a 2.5inch blue spoon, the smaller profile makes it appeal to a lot of different gamefish. Also this week we did get some kingfish on this very same lure, just goes to show you whatever is around is what is going to bite that day. Kingfish have been very sporadic but we tend to see a good run of them in the fall when the mullet come down our coast. Bottom fishing this week has been pretty good when the current has been light but majority of the bigger snappers have been deep, as deep as 400 feet. If you can get those right conditions to be able to fish those depths the fish have been there, Larger vermillion snappers have been the primary catch but we did get super lucky and catch a very respectable american red snapper which is rare for our area but not so rare if you were fishing in the gulf side, you really never know what you might catch out there. For an offshore report this week the hot topic has been mahi, we had a nice push of them and they have been offshore on larger weed patches as well as birds too. The best advice I could give is to be ready with live bait and spinning rods incase you hook up and there is a school of mahi with the ones you have on, you want to maximize any opportunity you might get because it could be the only one all day, other then mahi offshore there has been a fair amount of skipjack and blackfin tuna on birds chasing bait, the key is to look for the birds and keep your lures far behind the boat, the noise of the boat will make the tuna go deep so if you have your baits way behind the boat by the time you pass them they will be on there way up and your baits will be the only thing around. Tuna feed in schools so its important when you hook up with one to not slow the boat down which can result in multiple hook ups. Hello there Capt. Vinnie back with another deep sea fishing report for the Fort Lauderdale area. For the report this week i can say honestly fishing has been a little tough specially trolling, the seaweed has still been an issue and we have been experiencing heavy tides as of late. On the days that conditions have lined up trolling wise we have been catching a good amount of false albacore, as well as some king mackeral. All this action has been taking place in depths around 100 feet and shallower. Fishing a spoon on our deep lines has been producing the best action and getting the most bites. Surface baits that are meant to look like a small squid or flying fish have been getting some action as well. With all this tide there was a small flurry of summer time sailfish, we weren't lucky enough to get one this week but it is nice to see a few caught. When there is heavy currents one thing that is very productive is anchoring up and fishing snapper. We had some very good action on yellowtail and mutton snapper this week fishing as shallow as 30 feet. When you have heavy current in the deep there usually is light current in shallow and that is the perfect recipe for chumming up snappers and free lining small chunks of bait to replicate pieces of free chum. When your anchored up for a significant amount of time your building a spot, so you never know what will show up specially with current and chum, we have been anchored before in depths around 50 feet and had sailfish swim up as well as mahi mahi. There was only a few days this week that the current lightened up enough for us to fish the deep for vermillion and yelloweye snappers and we had some great success. Some of the yelloweye snappers were as big as 6lbs, in my personal opinion these fish are one of the best if not the best snapper to eat that we catch here in Fort Lauderdale. For an offshore report this week mahi have been slow in the beginning of the week but there was a really nice push of them towards the end of the week, right about this time is when we start to see some consistency in that fishery all the way till late fall, i have high hopes for the next few weeks as we have a few mahi trips coming up. Full Moon Deep Sea Fishing

Hey there Capt. Vinnie here, its been a solid week of deep sea fishing here in Fort Lauderdale and we have the pictures and report to prove it!. This week just like the title says full moon deep sea fishing, the moon and moon phase plays a very big part of what is biting out there. The moon being full is best for wahoo usually a few days before and a few days after. Which we did get lucky enough to get a very nice one this week "pictured". Trolling this week hasn't been to hot, most days has been slow unless you are catching bonito, the moon has made a very strong current out there and a lot of fish usually don't like to feed in that type of tide. But the one thing that was hot this week was snapper fishing. We had some great trips this week anchor fishing on shallow reefs. Summer time snapper fishing is great around the moons because thats when the snapper are spawning specifically mangrove snapper. Now mangroves are more of night time feeders but we happen to anchor up on and old spot I used to fish in the night time for them around this time of year and the fish were there. We ended up limiting out very quickly, and all this is due to the moon phase right now. When we fished other spots while on anchor we had a great bite of yellowtail snapper as well as some really good kingfish action. The crazy part is all this has been taking place very shallow around 30 feet of water, just because you are shallow doesn't mean there are not big fish, its all timing. Knowing where to be at what time. Majority of the mangrove snappers we caught where around 3-4lbs with a few pushing 5lbs, and for the yellowtail snapper around 2lbs was the average. Bottom fishing has been the name of the game for the last week or so but as we get on the back side of the moon i'm pretty sure there will be some wahoo to catch, as well as blackfin tunas too. As for a mahi report this week they seem to getting to be steady but they have been way out there close to 20 miles so your going to need a full day trip in order to reach them. Still looking for birds is going to be a key sign that life is in the area, as well as weed patches and anything floating too. We are getting closer and closer to the time when there going to be steady in the next few weeks I will hopefully have a nice mahi report. Great Week Of Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Hello there, Capt. Vinnie here... What a great week of deep sea fishing it has been here in Fort Lauderdale. Once again I would like to thank all of our great clients that have kept us busy during the month of July, we are very grateful for you guys and we always try our best to make sure everyone has a good time. For this week the fishing report which is what you all came for has been very good. A few days this week we had a southwest wind which helped with the seaweed problem we have been having. The southwest wind helps push a lot of the weed offshore which is like a double edges sword, it makes the fishing inshore easy for trolling but that type of wind is bad for offshore fishing specially dolphin. This week we did have some really good catches while trolling on the reef including a few very nice wahoo. We don't typically catch a lot of wahoo in the month of July but the ones we do catch are usually very nice sized. The bonito are here now and in full force although they aren't great eating in my opinion you can eat them and we do have some customers that really like them, but if your looking to just catch fish and something that pulls hard they are a great fish for that. Other then those species previously mentioned there has been some kingfish but they are sporadic, i think when the mullet show up in the fall is when the kingfish are going to be really solid but until then it will be a slow to steady pic. Blackfin tuna have been hard to come by this week, seems that they are taking a break unless you go late in the afternoon like as the sun is going down, or as they say the witching hour has been really productive. The depths from 180-300 have been really productive but just keep in mind this has been a late evening bite only. Last but not least dolphin or mahi mahi have been very sporadic some days they have been in close and other days way offshore like over 20 miles. I still think its to early for us to be getting them really solid the fall months seem to produce better results. If you do travel offshore looking for mahi you have to find birds if you find birds you will find the mahi, but like i said previous they have been all over and its been hard to pin point where there going to be, i would say just be patient and soon the mahi will be here. Summer Grinding in Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, first id like to say sorry for the delay in reports we have been super busy with a lot of sport fishing charters and we are grateful for everyone of our wonderful customers that have come out deep sea fishing with us over the last week. Now for the report.... Fishing this week in Fort Lauderdale has been good some days and some days it has been slow and a lot of the reason it has been slow is due to the seaweed, I know that sounds like an excuse but there are days that it is everywhere and it makes it very hard to troll, live bait, and bottom fish. The main problem is it gets on your line and your lures and that makes endless job for crew to keep baits clean in order to fish properly. But on a side note the days the seaweed is light and we can fish the way we know how we have been catching a good amount of fish. Trolling on the reef has been productive for species like kingfish, bonito, and a very few summer time sailfish if your lucky. Inside of 150 feet of water is where most of this action takes place. Trolling with surface baits and deep baits fished with planers has been the best way to get bites, a lot of our bites have been coning on our deep baits specially when the sun is up and the temps are hot, the cooler water below the surface seems to keep the fish more active. Just outside of the reef if the seaweed is light there has been blackfin tuna and also the predators that eat them being wahoo. Depths around 200 feet on out to 400 has been the most consistent for these type of fish, and in my personal opinion the afternoon specially late afternoon have been best for tunas. For the wahoo early morning seems to be the ticket but outgoing tide with a north current has been the perfect recipe for wahoo, pretty much everything has to line up right in order for them to be around and hungry. Other then that this week we had some really good bottom fishing. We had some great catches of snapper, mostly vermillion snapper and a few nice yellow eye snapper too. Most of the rock piles around 240 feet have been productive but some days you have to hit a few spots to put a catch together. August is a great month for snapper fishing out here in Fort Lauderdale so stay tuned in future reports for more snapper action.
